An evil force looms on the horizon and it's up to two young heroes, Rio and Reima, to take up the Sword of the Shrine and save the world from certain doom. Before they can save the world, the duo first needs to restore the Sword by finding its eight elemental gems of magic, along with helping dozens of denizens on the way.

Xeshra: Guess you 2 can figure out if the game is actually capable to be played by whatever standards. By the time you may be finished with the investigations i am probably already finish playing it.

Indeed the game is a action RPG, kinda like Secret of Mana or other entries of this series.
I already plan to get it, so no need for an investigation on my part. :)

I just spent too much during the 17th sale already. So waiting a bit for now. =P

dtgreene: I never considered Secret of Mana to be an RPG, even when it came out, so I still wouldn't use the RPG label for games like this.

(That doesn't say anything about the quality of the game, as I've mentioned,)
Honestly, who the frigg cares what you call it. Genre conventions are just quick, shorthand labels so people quickly get a general idea - they’re not meant to be in-depth explanations. Genres are "it is like a", not "it is a". Someone says it’s an RPG, an FPS, grimdark, or film noir, and you kinda get the ballpark it fits into. But that doesn’t actually explain what it is.

There are no pure genres, no clear genre conventions. It’s all a mix of feel, tone, and whatever floats your boat. In the end, the only thing that really matters is whether the game, film, book, or whatever is fun or not. The rest is just navel-gazing and puritan elitism.

Me as well, kinda have to scale down for a while now. I was spending around 1000 CHF since June on GOG alone (second half of 2025) and it is now kinda moving into the red zone because PS5 and Steam was as well adding up at least another 1000. I shall continue in 2026...

I watched a let's play video for 20 minutes and wanted to buy it now. Gameplay, soundtrack and save system looks good to me.
Then I saw that the soundtrack and a deluxe edition is sold elsewhere.
*sigh* I think I'll wait to get both later here when it's available -.-°

It always sucks when the game doesn't have all it's components sold on GOG (as a package or individual DLCs), when it's already available elsewhere. :(

This is nothing new on GOG, guess thats the usual "GOG treatment" and lacking OSTs a very common thing.

However... the OST provided is MP3 only, so a high quality sound is rather a fairy tale.

It is a wonder it is on GOG at all because not a single word about GOG: https://www.indie.io/games/shrine's-legacy

Sure, can not expect "bombastic sales" if no complete versions provided and almost pretending GOG does not even exists. Although, they kinda are "fine" with a very tiny success here as "it was never a goal boosting any non-premium platform, i assume".

'SNES-era inspired', indeed! How about that world map and 'surprised Crono' (and Marle, too, probably) sprite!
The gameplay and puzzles remind me of Crono Cross, as well. Though that's no surprise, considering that they occupy the same niche and share the same inspirations. See any more direct callbacks in the supplied material?
Definitely looks 16-bit, yep!
Soundtrack and Deluxe Edition is now available, yay :-)
