GOG Digital Premieres - Call of Cthulhu Adventures

Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice, a mind-bending duo of Call of Cthulhu adventure classics, premiere digitally right now - DRM-free on GOG.com.

An original horror-adventure duo from Infogrames, (the company well known for their Alone in the Dark series) Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice are two of the very few games that get to boast actually taking place within the Call of Cthulhu mythos. With a pedigree like that, you can be sure that you're getting the best of the atmosphere and uncomfortable flavor of a true H.P. Lovecraft story.

Shadow of the Comet (Win + Linux) is the tale of a young British photographer out to capture a one-of-a-kind comet passing over an isolated New England town of Illsmouth. He discovers that the last person to attempt this spent the rest of his life in a high-security lunatic asylum. Soon, he'll also discover why… In Prisoner of Ice (Win + Mac + Linux) an indirect sequel to Shadow of the Comet, you're just another officer aboard the HMS Victoria - a military sub returning from a simple extraction operation. Just another run of the mill job, the target is safe and you're counting down the time till your shore leave. Little do you know, it's also a matter of time until you look straight in the eye of an ancient evil aboard.

Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice are terrifying 2D adventure games that received critical acclaim for successfully capturing the unique atmosphere of tales like "At the Mountains of Madness", "The Dunwich Horror", "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" and, of course, "The Call of Cthulhu". Whether you're a Lovecraft fan, or just searching for the right excuse to discover the legend - these are stories you have to experience.

Heed the call of Cthulhu in Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice, available now - DRM-free on GOG.com!
Amazing coincidence. I was just thinking of Shadow of the Comet today plus am nearly done reading At the Mountains of Madness.

Thanks for finally adding these games. They're really fun Lovecraftian adventures.

That happened to me twice in gog, once with Icewind Dale I&II and Planescape Torment, and the second with the STARTREK games.

JamesBond007: There is also a Windows version of Prisoner of Ice. I have it from CD-Action magazine issue 01/1999. [...]
Też mam! :D
Oh, hope you guys get that Prisoner of Ice bug fixed ASAP. I'll definitely look into getting Shadow of the Comet but Prisoner of Ice is really damaged merchandise at the moment.

It has the bug for everyone and every OS?

cose_vecchie: It's good to see "Prisoner of Ice" here as well. Now it would be great if GOG also released "Dark Corners of the Earth" (in an updated, fully working version for newer operating systems, with bugs and glitches fixed) but we know that's not going to be easy...

IronArcturus: I agree, GOG really needs to get Dark Corners of the Earth!
Unfortunately, Bethesda is involved...
I played Shadow of the Comet on Twitch yesterday, in case somebody wants to see a bit of the game:

And Vlad played Prisoner of Ice:

Enjoy! :-)
Ahhh, back to the good old games *dons rose-tinted spectacles*

Cheers for those streams, enjoyed them both immensely.

Big thanks especially to Vlad, for streaming at very short notice.
That was one of the funniest gog-streams so far :)

Grr bummed I missed them! Will have to remember to give these a watch... but not too much of them ;)
At first I was really excitied!... and then I saw that they require 256mb vram.
Any chance they'll work with a pitiful 128mb vram? :)
what a nice surprise!!!! thank you GOG! been telling myself not to extend library any more before playing some of it - but this...but buying this was conditional reflex :)

I might have jumped the gun in saying the game is damaged. I decided to get the game after all and I've had no problems saving... yet.

Either the bug's been fixed or I haven't encountered it yet. So far it's been a pleasant, no crash experience like the time I played the game straight off the CD-ROM.
