As a fan of Lovecraft I played this game back in the day... My god it was awesome. Yes, it did have some technical glitches but nothing too serious. Absolute must for any horror fan.
want it, want it! giant-monster-fightin'-with-deck-gun, hold-on-for-dear-life-as-waves-come-crashing-on the-ship, always something new and different to do in this game!! how can you not feel dread when you got an army of crazed cultists shooting at you, while you got nothing to defend yourself? i could do without the respawning enemies, though
This, Prisoner of Ice and Shadow of the Comet. GOG, do your best please, to bring these here.
This is one of the most ambitious games ever made. The whole team must have been dedicated to implement a very clear vision of how the game should look and sound. A long development cycle, few proven Lovecraftian successes (in any medium, not just games) and unproven first person horror innovations (no HUD, locational damage and healing, mental health), the game had all the odds stacked against it yet they persisted in finishing and publishing it. It is a perfect GOG title, one for enthusiast gamers. Unfortunately it needs to be wrestled from the hands of the bean counters at Bethesda, who will probably hold on to it and never do anything with the rights, leaving this true work of art to be forgotten and lost in time.
I would love for this come out on gog but the game crashing occurances in windows 7 and onward need to be fixed first.
Good atmosphere, good soundtrack. I have it on Steam but I would buy it here too!
I beg you gog , do you r best to bring the one here
The best lovecraftian game ever
Hello everyone. I'm here to put my vote on this game to be delivered by this great site, as it's a very good game aat the time that it's a bit annoying to put it to work on new PCs. So, if GOG manages to make it run without problems in new machines, I'm sure there going to be a lot of happy customers.
Please, almighty GOG do all you can in order to bring this damned & doomed game on the catalogue!
Yes please, +1
Completely agree with all of you guys… I’m looking forward to the day that the stars are properly aligned so GOG can release this gem on this site. Please GOGers… make it happen!!!
@_Slaugh_ You could try the patches and suggestions on this page: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Call_of_Cthulhu:_Dark_Corners_of_the_Earth For the "Basement Stairs Crash", it says to try going down faster and perhaps jumping off the ladder without touching the stairs. If that doesn't work, Sucklead made a patch that fixes several glitches in the game, which I have used myself in order to complete the very last segment of the game. Anyway, don't give up! CoC:DCotE is one of my favourite games and, in my opinion, worth the hassle. You can easily see how it would have inspired Amnesia and, more recently, Outlast. But your point still stands, the bugs in this game definitely need to be sorted out, and it would be awesome if GOG was the company to do so.
If this version don't crash every time I access the basement in the first segment of the game, it's an instant buy for me! I could only play it half an hour before it crashed. At that time, I tried every tweaks I found (including changing the resolution, tweaking the game files, playing with CPU affinity, using compatibility modes, etc.), and no patch was available. I had a ATI Radeon HD 5850 when I tried this game first. I recently switched to a nVidia Geforce GTX 670, but never tried the game with that card. Apparently, the raining bug at the begining of the game only happens with ATI cards. Anyhow, these bugs plague the game and need to be addressed first...
I want this game so bad on GOG!
i still have it for xbawx
I really wish GOG would enforce a "buy one game before being allowed to post anything" policy on this site to rid us of spamming cockends like the user below.
I have one in a box but I would so want a new compatibility issues free one <3
Can't see why GOG can't get hold of it. One of the creators of this game also created Simon the Sorcerer, and that one's on GOG, but Call of Cthulhu DCOTE is a far superior game.
man this is such a great idea, it will really give many a chance to discover such an awesome horror survival game. many would benefit from this coming out thats for sure, especially if they fix a few things!
I would love to see this on GOG.com! Especially with any major bugs taken care of.
I cast my support for this effort to bring the Old Ones back to power. I mean, to GOG. Yesss...
The game is pretty buggy, so a fixed GOG version would be great.
great game, buying the as soon as it's made available. i still have my copy on xbox, play it every once in a while, only bug i really had was the game freezing when i saved. i'm still getting it here if they release it.
Loved this game, and I would love to have it DRM-free! Please GOG!
Definitely an under-rated Gem! Was a huge fan of it back in the mid-to-late 2000s and the game still has some magic to it, would LOVE to see it on GOG.com!
Perfect Lovecraft game. This doesn't try and awe you with giant monsters from the beginning but freaks you out with incredible atmosphere and storytelling. Creepy as all hell this is the only video game that has legitimate made me scared. The gameplay itself is a bit dodgy, with some bits requiring almost impossible perfect runs and the inventory is annoyingly small. There is a unofficial patching programout there that can fix this however and once done up this is an absolute gem to play.
I loved this game, sure it loses some of the charm once you get the gun,but the lovecraftian setting it provides is superb.A sequel would have a lot of room for improvement...too bad the company liquified :(.Would love to have this game here
One of the best PC survival horrors.
Really creepy game with a great atmosphere...would like to see it on GOG!
This is an excellent game. There were a few bugs to be had, but it did a superb job of mixing first person and adventure elements together.
I agree with you there, cobacel, people who view this game in the same way as a brainless FPS game have no grasp of what the game is, which is a First Person "Adventure" game. Meaning, you don't get the carebear style of play that you get in the usual mundane FPS game, where everything is provided for players that have it far too easy (and somehow laughingly believe that makes them real gamers - lol!)
But then, such players think that Arkham Asylum was a creation of the Batman universe, so who cares what they think?
To get an idea of how good this game really is, you only need to play the chase in the hotel part. It's classic gameplay on it's own!
And I prefer it to be on GoG rather than on Steam.
@jreaganmorgan You are ignorant kid, I'm only 21 of age and capable of appreciating this game for what it was not for its flaws, actually it had very few flaws by which I mean bugs, the deisgn was spot-on for me. Did you really expect a serious sam/painkiller/doom - like FPS ? It felt heavy and slow in this game but it was realistic and fitting with the atmosphere. I did not have game-breaking bugs O_O, probably because I did not play the Steam version but the retail copy.
Ugh, such an interesting premise wasted. This is one of the worst fpp games I have played. Trial and error gameplay brutally murders any chance of immersion. Terrible decisions such as slowing the player when they are hit, not putting usable sights on the machine gun, and even respawning enemies at one point all made this game unbearably frusterating.
A magnificent stepping stone into the Cthulhu Mythos. It is truly a shame that Headfirst Productions will never be able to further this franchise. CoC:DCotE is one of the most immersive games I've played, and tells a gripping story true to the works of H.P. Lovecraft. I believe that this game would be a fine addition to the GOG catalogue, especially so if an official/unofficial patch could be arranged along side of the purchase.
Bugs yes, unbalance yes, loss of horror for a significant period of the game once you get a gun yes, but the atmosphere and Lovecraftian motiffs were masterfully done. Please bring this game to GOG.
By the way, there's a community patch that fixes the blue lights bug at least, and should be able to fix a few others as well...
Definitely, but ONLY if the bugs can somehow be fixed, or at least minimized. I somehow struggled through the entire thing on Steam, but they should have been paying ME, because the audio was clipped off, it crashed constantly, and there was a game-breaking bug involving the blue lights in the ship scene that forced me to download a saved game online to progress. Despite all that, I think this would be a real classic if it actually worked properly.
It's available on Steam...
Can it be... THIS GAME WAS GODLY. Also, I reccomend the film Dagon to all fans of this game as it's the film adaption of Lovecrafts short story which it was based on and it was made by the guy that made reanimator and one of my favorite films of all time: From Beyond, so yeah, go watch it mofos
It did have some bugs, but they were always resolvable with a bit of fiddling.
Well, with a _lot_ of fiddling. :S But it's still an amazing game, just a pity the creators went broke leaving all their IP and designs just sitting there.
I'm kind of sceptical of seeing Bethesda to help with the patch and to agree to put this game on GoG. Like other really innovative, atmospheric, story-driven, and original games (such as Undying or Bloodlines), this game was not a financial success despite the critical acclaim. I still voted for CoC:DCotE and would certainly buy it here as this game is truly exceptional in many aspects and should not be forgotten.
Yes, I want this game so much. I got it for XBox because the PC version was bugged, but I would prefer to play it on here.
I have a copy of this one in my PC-game collection, but I'm unable to finish it because of the bugs it has. I'm simply unable to beat the game, because it always crashes in a very specific point that you're required to pass in order to proceed. I'd be happy to buy Dark Corners of the Earth again, if GoG could tamper with the game and kill the bugs.
If you get it, see if you can fix the reef bug.
The game is so awesome, but yeah, bugged a bit, couldn't get past the end part becouse of it, but apart from that it's one of the greatest, most atmospheric games out there. Although I own it, I vote it.
if it would be fixed yes, otherwise no. Never could finish the game because of one of the bugs. >_<
This game is amazing, so yes.
... And removed all the other game-breaking bugs...
