Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition is now available on GOG!

This title combines the classic match-3 puzzle game with deep-level role-playing. Match 3 or more gems in a row to gain mana used to cast spells, battle opponents, collect items and rewards, and advance in the quests collected from nearly 20 years!

Check it out!
Cool. I think I still own a retail version of the first game. Wishlisted.
So I bought this and played it for a few hours this weekend.

Nice idea, but it seems my poor brain just isn't cut out for this match-three candy crush stuff. I just don't naturally "see" the combos to make, or even the match-four and five options. My brain just doesn't see it.

Then, and I see some people have noted this, golly gee willakers the opponents sure do seem to get some astonishingly lucky drops. Bing. Bing. Bing. BING. BINGGG. C'mon, really? I must have asked "hey, do I ever get a turn" about 100 times in just a few hours.

After the first few fights, I had to set the difficulty to "easy", which forces the AI to make some deplorably bad match choices on purpose, just to have a prayer of winning a single fight. Plus, man, fights take way too long and are way too repetitive.

I dunno, feels like a really neat idea to combine match-three with RPG elements and story, but... this is tedious and infuriating. I really want to like it... but... not sure I'm gonna last in this one.
Currently Level 16. I don't see any issues with the game. You have an option for every battle to make it either Easy, Average or Hard and are also given the enemy level and overall difficulty of the opponent. If you are new to an enemy, for example the Lich or Griffon, then go with Easy to understand how the enemy fights in combat and to what power they use. You can change spells and strategy to compensate for enemy strengths and weaknesses as you fight them more. My character has an advantage against Goblins (Green Mana), as I can drain the enemy of that power. On the other hand, an Ogre is strong in Red Mana, so I have to compensate by using a skill which removes all Red Mana from the board/table which I equip when fighting them. Excellent game so far, easy recommendation, the new classes are also most welcome too and the expansions are the icing on the cake.

Oh and on a separate note, GOG bring Dark Quest 3 & 4 over here when 4 is released.

amok: To make the inception better - the PC version came out first, so the mobile version was a port of the PC game.

dtgreene: The DS version came out before the PC version.

In fact, the PC version has some balance tweaks (like cooldowns on a few spells) that are not in the DS version.
Ah! Thanks! So I just need to find a way to play these old PC games back on an old PC (which a portable Phone is!). Let's download DOSbox on android real quick and reverse-compile the old floppy disks... waaaaaaait a minute! I don't wanna have the same experience from back in the day again where everything was a diploma theses. LOL nevermind I just play with my balls instead

Yeah, sadly this was the thing with original and still occurs in that new version. While I'm very persistent (for Puzzle Quest, but not only :)), I would totally understand if someone would consider this part as breaking the fun from this game.

Although I have impression, that sometimes I've managed to "take" part of those lucky combos by making different move than recommended - after a while game is giving a hint, where you can make a move. Sometimes there is literally only one move to do, but some classes have spells that change the color of specific field (which allows you to make connection not possible normally). And as a result - grab a couple of connections, that AI has prepared "for himself".

amok: It is a simple reason - it is a good and addictive game.
I just wondered how different it was to the thousands of other games like this. The sequel is missing though. Not sure where to buy it.
