President evil.

Political Animals, a lighthearted election simulator where the alarmingly anthropomorphic candidates fight tooth and nail for the chair, is now available for Windows and Mac, DRM-free on GOG.com, with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and a 10% launch discount.

It's election time! The candidates are gearing up for the big night: rounding up their herd of supporters, baring their teeth at their opponents, hissing insults at anyone asking unpleasant questions, and generally adhering by the rules of the jungle. In the game, though, things are slightly more civilized. And colorful.
As an ambitious but somewhat cute Political Animal you will take turns with the other animal candidate, managing your campaigns and moving around your agents. Do you want to be seen donating money to charity? Are you looking to dig up some dirt on your mangy opponent? Perhaps you want to hire a bunch of agitators to ruffle some feathers? Your people -or beasts, as the case may be- can arrange all that and more. Buy, bully, or win the necessary votes and secure yourself a prosperous political career as a charming do-gooder, a corrupt opportunist, or just an ultra-adaptive political animal.

Claw your way to the top as you run for president against the other Political Animals, DRM-free on GOG.com.
The 10% discount will last until November 9, 4:59 PM UTC.

Years_of_Chaos: The title of the game is perfect description of you.
Must've sounded better in your head. Probably the echo gave it more gravitas.

Vythonaut: Achievements? Blurgh! :P
Thanks but no thanks! I don't need such things in order to enjoy a good game. ;)
Same here, no achievements for me , maybe its brcause i am and old timer but i like my games simple and stupid and preferably offline.

I enjoy playing single player games/campagnes local on my pc, no LAN or internet, just like we did before internet became a commom thing.

As for this game its quite late, elections are almost over, the game should have arrived at least 2 or 3 months ago, on Steam many games like these have been released , weeks or months ago.

Anyway, the game looks funny but its a bit late.

This is a day one release as far as I can tell.

I know, i was refering to the elections almost being over in USA, when there is a lot of hype you should release a game.
Lets say you made a game about horror or specifically Halloween, what better time to release it when that event is about to start.

You don't make Xmas themed games and release them in the summer.
When a movie is hot and doing well, you 'r best bet is to release a game about the movie not to long after the movie is released, it requires carefull timing.

You don't sell as many chocolate easter eggs or easterbunnies during the winter or summer compared to the sales you will get during Easter.

You have to join when it's hot.

Is it truly supposed to be some tie-in game ?

I mean, the Democracy 3 game wasn't eleased during elections, or was it ?

You didn't have to be so brutal.
Hatred is so exhausting. And it punishes no one more than the hater.

As for this game, will hold off until the reviews come in to see how the play mechanic works out. But it seems to have a good amount of variety in terms of character selection and maps.

Thats correct, it wasn't but check the texts, screenshots and the videos.

About:
Political Animals is an election simulation game set within a fictional world populated by corrupt crocodiles and meritocratic mice. In a political contest where corruption is always around the corner, we want players to find out how incorruptible they really are.

In a world where politicians are animals and corruption is everywhere, do you have the integrity of Mousey, or the ruthlessness of Croccy? Will you fight your campaign on issues and in the best interests of the people, or will you succumb to the easier path of bribery and intimidation? Will you win votes...or will you buy them?
This one resembles the current elections 100% more then the other political games.

I check steam daily for new hidden object games (HOG) i have many retail but the latest will arrive online first and later some might be released drm free on retail cd/dvd and i dont like waiting so thats why i buy these HOG, and thats why i saw all the political games arriving aswell during the usa elections.

I also check gog at least once a day if some good new games or good old games i like have arrived.

Okay, damn my impulsiveness. I bought it and just wanted to share some quick first impressions, for anyone maybe thinking about a similar purchase.

The game is cute, but squanders its premise. It is exactly like any other political game, just with animal characters. Every situation is identical to real life with just the names changed to protect the less-than-innocent. It uses Unity, runs fine so far (about an hour into it), and has a fairly smooth UI.

But there's a freaking terrible tutorial that is literally just a couple help screens and the game is obtuse enough in its mechanics that even on the easiest difficulty setting I found myself scratching my head.

I love turn-based strategy games, even when I'm not very good at them, but this leaves me confounded as to how the different mechanics interact and feels like a board game without the manual.

Thus far, I am disappointed, though I might put a little more time into it to try and see if it improves with age. I guess it'll either be like a wine and get nicer, or like banging my head against a brick wall and get bloodier.

Thanks very much for the review! It really helps to have first-hand information with games such as this. Please do share any further impressions as well.
What a dark day for Democracy.
