The ratings around for KA2 are like 5-6\10 though :(
KA1 seems better, instead.

nightcraw1er.488: Wow. A good looking game, and at a good price. What is the catch? I have to say I haven't played the first, but at that price...

Ixamyakxim: I really liked it to be honest. I enjoyed the first game more, but this one addresses some of the "problems" of the first. It's a bit more linear and there's less freedom than in the first game (which some people actually liked). And the text quests didn't have quite the impact.

But for a fun real time battle game that has a nice overworld turnbased aspect the game really is a lot of fun. And the learning curve is less steep than in the first game. It restricts the number of armies you can have and the map opens up more slowly so you're not bombarded with unit distribution. Personally, I found it fun (in the first game) to try and figure out how to best allocate my armies and heroes, but a lot of people bitched because it was possible to get STOMPED if you stretched yourself too thin too early, or didn't know when to garrison what you had and when to send out scouting parties. In the second game you don't have to worry about that as much.

I encountered one bug that prevented me from continuing but I found a patch pretty quickly and it addressed the problem. And I had no technical issues when I played the game like 5 years ago or so on my i5 with a... 460 I think? Maybe a bit of stuttering at times when zoomed in, but the game was certainly playable and I was never annoyed.

I'd say grab it if you're on the fence - I'm a fan of the series so I'm a bit biased. But if it looks the least bit interesting to you at under 4 quid it'd call it a pretty easy pickup and have no qualms recommending the game.
Thanks for the info, Ixamyakxim. I will go for the game.
Loved the first one..this is a no brainer must buy for me

Nyktouros: Instabuy. I've got in on Steam, I've got it on torrents :P and now I've got it on GOG.

Waiting for another two gems from NeoCore - Crusaders: Thy Kingdom Come and Lionheart: The Kings' Crusade, outstanding Total War/RPG mixes.
I lost my nerve and bought it on steam a couple months ago, but only after getting an almost definitely will never come to GoG. Nothing official from GoG, but after posting on the forum and linking a wishlist, pretty much every reply gave me the many reasons why it wouldn't come here. I then went to the Paradox forums and posted and I think I did get an official response, or similar user response as here. Mainly it was the the game was abandonware and there was nobody to work on a GoG version. It didn't make sense to me with the number of people I've seen asking for it.

Still buying it, especially for the sale price! Now all I need from Paradox is Stellaris on GoG!!!!! Come on GoG! You did me right with KA2

Finally!
It's been years that I have waited for the King Arthur series to be here.

PS: I find strange that this topic is currently invisible in the general english forum, it's only visible through the news homepage. (same thing for the french topic)

Anime-BlackWolf: It seems to be glitched / terribly optimized. Very "mixed" reviews on another store... Better trying out cheap than pay the full price... :(
This is a good way to get the bugs out of the game, many eyes will see many bugs and the game might be 'debugged' faster from its bugs then asking full price at release.... releasing a demo( no alpha demos but proper demo) could have reduced the number of bugs already because of the huge feedback from the gamers.

Except it's a 5 year old game released on Steam
28 Jan, 2012
What's more the only DLC was released
27 Jan, 2012

So DLC was released the day before the game?

Not much chance of any bug fixing here, whatever price it's sold at.

Plus am I the only one that finds the setting of Dark ages Arthurian Britain, not represented in that trailer at all.
High fantasy content shown includes Armies of Dragons with Small Dinosaurs, and Giant insects.
Winged Flying Giants, and flying Snake Demons. Armoured Giants, and Trolls

Why give it an Pseudo-Historical setting, and then ignore it entirely?
Just make it a Fantasy world to start with.

Not what I expected from that Title.

I hope you like it - I'm a big fan of the series. If you end up liking the game, give the first one a shot too. I felt it was the stronger of the two though like I said in my previous post there are aspects of it that are "fixed" in the second so it's really a personal preference sort of thing.
Vetry nice, bought.

Hope it comes at least close to the first one.
Was it patched to work properly?

Gylfe: Hell yes! Two weeks in a row, thanks GoG!
What was in the first week? I am bit surprised that GOG didn't have this before. This has been available on steam for some time now.

Actually, i hope not. While the first one had a nice atmosphere and alignment/capital build system, fun mini quests and the tactical combat was ok to very ok (albeit hero abilities very unbalanced, some being awepowerful, others so useless a hero with them might as well be killed off) The optimisation was dreadful.. long loading times, sluggish images...

Mostly: The campaign mechanics absolutely sucked. hidden triggers and unclear story elements that, without any warnings could and would get you to advance far too fast and getting you totally destroyed by overpowered sidhe/crusader units that appeared when scripted to do so, player not even able to find out where he went wrong unless precisely following a guide.
Therefore too linear and too scripted. Couldnt just 'build up' to get stronger economy/army if the coming challenges were too hard. You had to advance before you were ready and then hang on by the skin of teeth.

Once you triggered some points in the main quest.. a timer activated that made sure shit was going down a set amount of time later, and from that moment you were 'in the pipeline'
To increase fun: to be able to build up the power to face these challenges... you had to trigger the timers. The sidhe units and the high tier christian units were the only ones of note, and to get them you had to advance the main quest to the pipeline point. Even if you didnt do that and decided to build your economy.. after a set amount of turns the main quest would advance anyway!

Due to this i never even finished this potentially awesome game. i just hate to follow a tight, unforgiving script that i cant even read. If i need an external guide, alt tabbing in and out all the time to find out what exactly i have to do when to not get totally killed later..being in a race but not knowing when it starts and where i have to be at what time.. its just not fun, nor immersive.. Just as annoying as the nearly mandatory 'builds' in d&d games where anything except a totally level by level pre-planned character will make your character severely gimped. Might as well make the builds preselectable and eliminate manual leveling.

I really wanted to love it, and i started playing it time and again, but as soon as i hit the scripts i lose interest as it is just a race against the timers, lots of loading/saving to get the 'right' results, the right heroes etc.. no benefits to player creativity no variety, fun exploration and build-up ..
Not even a few 'ok' ways to do it, a few 'good' ways and one 'best 'way.. just one way that most of the time will work and maybe another that you may succeed with if you are a gaming god. Even the alignments make little difference, they just determine what ultimate units you get to replace your other fodder and with what you take the mandatory steps though the pipeline.
This kind of sucks. I waited to buy it today, August 31, 1pm UTC.

The offer was announced to end 31st of August, 5pm UTC.

What happened?

I mean, why did the offer end before the announced date/hour?

The main campaign was annoying in the scripted sequences for sure. That said the Saxon and Druid expansion campaigns were a lot better because there were no deadly scripted missions like that- I enjoyed those far more than the main campaign. You might want to consider trying those.

As for KA2, I couldn't get into it. Kingdom management was watered down far too much and the enemies at the gate seemingly chomping at the bit to kill you will wait - forever until you advance the script. Scenario battle mode was terrible - in the first game you had most units available - you have a very limited selection in the second.

I played through it twice, two of the Sidhepath, and i loved both playthroughs. I didn't had problems as you described them as i explored/sidequested everything before i advanced the Mainstory...the only time i was forced to reload was the Ghostcastle i think. I really loved the challenge, the story+lore+world+atmosphere and the many possible arcs and variants...
The only downsides of KA I for me was some technical stuff.
