Rise of the machines.

UPDATE 2: The second hero DLC included in the Season Pass is out! Yoko Takano joins the fray — born to protect and serve (for a price) she will spearhead the revolution in private military services!

UPDATE: The first hero DLC included in the Season Pass is out! You can now do battle as Yana "Tesla" Radovich, a self-taught genius and talented hacker, who relies both on her wits and her crazy hardware.

Hybrid Wars, a top-down shooter starring hulking machines and plenty of explodable enemies, is now available for Windows and Mac, DRM-free on GOG.com, with GOG Galaxy support for achievements.

In 2060, war is no longer a job for the meager foot soldier. Technology has given birth to a wide range of advanced killing machines, like tanks, robots, helicopters, and formidable mechs called Titans. As the Hybrid Wars break out, you'll find yourself commanding one such metallic monstrosity while roaming 8 expansive locations, filled with enemies to blow up and objectives to complete. Pick a hero, enter the belly of the beast you like best and equip it with the most efficient loadout. Quick reflexes and smart manoeuvres will go a long way but surviving consecutive waves of mechanized enemies and taking down towering bosses will take all the firepower you can muster.

Jump inside the cockpit of a futuristic war machine and join the Hybrid Wars, DRM-free on GOG.com.
If you want to gear up in full, pick up the Deluxe Edition, which includes an additional playable character, a digital art book, and the game's official soundtrack.
Two more hero characters are coming out in the following months, and you can recruit them now through the Season Pass.

JudasIscariot: The image is a hyperlink to the Deluxe version and the first line even before you click "Read more" also has the Deluxe version linked.
So literally everything except 'read more' is an advertisement...

It overshadows and makes the description pretty much invisible, even if it is there. Sorry, my own opinion but the current setup makes me skip over it immediately. Maybe I'm only one in a thousand who would skip the entire game and option because of this, but that's how it is.

HereForTheBeer: The trailers makes it look like a 3rd person Battlefield game, the game card shows otherwise. No buy until I see a Let's Play or two. And I'd like to see an all-in-one edition available in addition to the piecemeal purchase options.
Here you have a gameplay video:

It reminds me a bit of these twin stick and similar shooters like Alien Breed Trilogy, Halo: Spartan xxx series, Hatred, Guardians of Orion, Helldivers, Bombshell etc.

rtcvb32: Agreed. Or even a link to the deluxe version and not the huge ad. The ad seems more useful to pop up when you are checking out and reminding you there is another version and an option to upgrade, vs what's there.

I'm still not quite sure if we see description of the game as it was intended... :P

Prydeless: WG is selling this game with a Steam key on their shop bundled with premium currency... Get them to do a GOG key version!

Ashnak: Premium currency for ingame use?
WG has F2P games (World of Tanks, World of Warships) with currency purchased with cash.

Does clicking on "Read more" not expand the description for you? Attached is what you see when you click "Read more".

It's expanding... but I'm too lazy to click the link just under pretty boring ad picture, that's why I suggest to change the main part of the description to be visible without clicking, as we are used to see on the gamecards :D

A lot of game cards have long descriptions that require clicking "Read more" to expand them :P As for the fold (the fancy technical name for the "Read more" function :P) that's not going away thanks to whatever the web design standards that are in place these days :)

As for laziness that is purely PEBKAC :P

GOG version is DRM-Free, but can you use Wargaming.net account with it to unlock additional character?

Yes, but normally the link is not next to invisible, because of a huge ad. And normally we get at least some basic sentences about the game before we have to click on the "read more" link.

Thank you kindly for the link. Will take a peek in a bit.

The screenshots make it seem like the game is right in the ballpark of stuff I would enjoy. Hopefully some video will clear up the impression one way or another.

You're welcome.

Here is a better video without commentary, from the same guy.

From an editorial standpoint you should put the important stuff before the fold (in this case, first part of the description of the game). As evidenced, the entire part before the fold is an enticement to buy the Deluxe version of the game, and it is not clear, that the "Read more..." option refers to description of the base version or not as can instead be assumed from the text that it links over to the Deluxe edition.
IMHO the Deluxe edition text and advertisement should be further down or at the end of the description so that the intention becomes clear.

I personally use the GOG.com Essential browser extension, so I don't see all this fold-up silliness.
Sigh. Character select screen shows five characters. 1 only usable if you buy the Deluxe Upgrade. 2 only usable if you buy the Season Pass. 1 only usable if you create a multiplayer account with the company.

So... a character selection screen with only one option.

Great. It's as close as you can get to mobile-style microtranscations without actually being micro. :-(

Is a character really locked behind an account verified DRM scheme? Seriously? Isn't GoG DRM free? Are they aware of this?

[EDIT] I bought this and haven't downloaded it. I just asked for a refund - shouldn't be a problem since I haven't downloaded anything yet. But even if I had I would hope the refund would still be honored given how much this stinks of DRM. Such a shame too, looks like something I would enjoy.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one finding it off and annoying.

I'd honestly love to see a description starting off as something like: In a world of fear, when 1930 the nazis and their mutant zombie infestation took over Egypt after taking over Russia, the world was on the brink of...

Rather than: AD! GET THE DELUXE EDITION FOR MORE STUFF! AD AD AD!
