The game that wore a fedora.

Hot Tin Roof: The Cat That Wore A Fedora a quirky metroidvania platformer, is available now for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount!

Quirky, spiffy and a little off-beat. Hot Tin Roof: The Cat That Wore A Fedora is a 2D film-noir inspired platformer that's all about finding secrets, puzzles and items. A series of murders, a gritty town of boxes and cats, and a detective story await Emma Jones, the two bit PI in an 8-bit world. Together with your trusty sidekick Franky, the cat that wore a fedora, you'll investigate, chat up civilians and platform all around this extensive 3D world. No film-noir experience would be complete without a little bit of the jazz, and Hot Tin Roof: The Cat That Wore A Fedora chiptune delivery is more than worth a listen.

Poop to save your game, but don't forget to wash your hands, in Hot Tin Roof: The Cat That Wore A Fedora, available now DRM-free on GOG.com. The 10% launch discount will last for one week, until Tuesday, March 3 at 3:59 PM GMT.
One to get! But will wait a bit. Thank you!
I approve of more fedoras on GOG.com.

Still, only wishlisted for now. My wallet has been bled dry over the last couple months. I wonder how that happened. <_<
Seems to be a Tex Murphy adventure with cats.
Interesting.
If the soundtrack was included (and is like the trailer) I'd instabuy. So it's wishlisted.

CharlesGrey: Also, isn't this a 3D game, and thus based primarily on... polygon graphics? Oh well.
8-bit is a much-abused concept these days, like sepia toning and distressed typography.

Though in fairness, the C64 actually did have polygon games. :)

tfishell: Inspired by retro classics in the vein of SNES/N64 games, it's an 8-bit hardcore platformer with beautiful pixel graphics that doesn't hold your hand.

Wishbone: Uhm, no. It really isn't.
I know, I was poking fun at buzzwords used to describe indie games.

Yeah, I'm actually a fan of "retro" graphics and gameplay, if they're done well, but certain styles have been really overused. And usually they fail to capture the essence of what made the classic games visually pleasing and fun to play. Or they attempt and fail to mix a classic look with modern effects/graphics techniques, and it just turns into an inconsistent mess. On the bright side, we've also received some games with really unique and creative visual styles here, over the past few weeks and months.

And were those actual polygons? Or some sort of pseudo-3D graphics?

i think its 3d, i saw the name and googled for it thats how i found the screenshots and saw it was 3d.

i also googled on this one: Train Fever
first thing to come up is this game from:

Train Fever | Official Website
www.train-fever.com/

its on steam apparently and i thought i saw it on gamersgate aswell.

GearHead garage that would have been a nice old game, it uses a form of 3d , but that 3d does not bother me, i played it on old windows alot, its not turning the screen 360 degrees, i saw a similar car mechanic or so, but that is 3d and personally i favor gear head garage

Too bad it does not work on win Xp well (need to set to software graphics and that does not llok like the real thing)
and it does not work at all on win7 , no matter what you do.
the workarounds posted everywhere on the internet do not work.

I did saw post that said this game would be like gearhead garage

Car Mechanic Simulator 2014
so i checked the vids....
but its not, everyone complains about the camera....

so basically gearhead garage is still the best

its too bad the developers dropped it and still sell some old non compatible versions, but are not supporting it to make it work for latest windows. ( vista, win7 and higher)

I suspect that they are true polygons in terms of the underlying calculations, since Incentive ported their Freescape engine to a bunch of platforms. But the rendering is most likely an intermediary layer that converts the polygon view to a plotted bitmap, given the significant limitations of the C64 hardware. Still, pretty damn spiffy to get a 3D world in such a basic device.

Have you tried Train Fever? How does it compare to OpenTTD?
By title alone i half expected it to be a reboot to Alley Cat...

hi, i havent tried train fever, Its 3d so thats why i haven checked it out.
I had some games like that in the old days, win95, amiga c64, but those were flat, 2d, 3d is not my thing, i always feel 'seasick' after seeing 3d stuff, so thats why i stay away from that
Gearhead garage however was differnt, i played the limited demo very often on old windows.
So i cant say if the train fever is any good.

it looks like many people like it or are curious about this game, theres some reviews on youtube
the trains closeups of the models look great, but it involves lots of zooming and turning as far as i could seen from the videos on youtube.

lol, i checked the screenshots and they have something in common.
But since almost anything has been done already in the good ol c16/c64 , amiga zx spectrum, amstrad, atari 2600, colecovision and all those ninetonde lookalike consoles and handheld games (i saw dozens of these old games statting in the late 70s ( i was 16 or so)

its hard to be original.
