Return to the Mothership

Homeworld Remastered Collection, containing the legendary space RTSs turned instant classics, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and multiplayer, and a 50% launch discount.

Homeworld brought real-time strategy into actual 3D, creating a truly free-form tactical experience across battlefields vast in every dimension. It did so in a way that's not just manageable, but overwhelmingly fun! This engrossing space opera chronicles the struggles of an alien race, the Kushan, locked in a vicious conflict with a tyrannical empire as they make their way to the promised land.
Homeworld 2 expanded on the setting and story even further, while refining the overall gameplay and visual experience. Now the whole saga has been remastered, putting a fresh coat of paint and techno-magic over this timeless experience, so that new and veteran players alike can finally return safely to their true Homeworld. This version also includes the latest massive patch, which brings tons of radical changes to formations, ship behavior, gameplay balance, and more.

The Homeworld Remastered Collection includes both the classic and remastered editions of Homeworld & Homeworld 2.
Dedicated fans can also grab the remastered soundtrack from both games, available in MP3 and FLAC.

Engage in full-scale battle between vast 3D fleets in Homeworld Remastered Collection, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 50% discount will last until June 10, 12:59 PM UTC.

BlueTemplar: You're annoyed that they made the discount *longer*, albeit at a lower rate?
Ah right, I thought they changed it midway, thanks. Well I'm annoyed at myself that didn't pick it up sooner :(

mobutu: That's weird, indeed.
Launch the game with 50% off then in the immediately following summer sale make it only 30% off.
maybe the game sold extremely well (with 50% off) and they got a little bit greedy ;)
This *is* Gearbox we are talking about.. *points at all the Borderland DLC*

Thiev: I believe he may refer to the issue posted on HW subforums, that after 2.1 patch game crashes if no Galaxy is installed.
If it's indeed the case then it is of course a bug that will be fixed, however we won't be able to confirm that until Monday.
Thanks for clearing it up. I will then wait for the fix before downloading it.

tinyE: Is Cataclysm a totally separate game?
avatar
UhuruNUru: Yes and uses the original Homeworld engine.
I recommend you bite the bullet and get a disc I got a mint condition one for £5.50 free P&P in UK.
Links a couple of pages back.

Speaking of links heres all the original docs, and a few fan made ones I found.

Thanks, this post needs to be stickied.

thebream: Thanks, this post needs to be stickied.
Well that's beyond my control, but I can put it in the game dedicated forum at least.

I'll do that now

Good idea. I think theres a problem with the HW1 Ship Stats Spreadsheet v1.0.0 zip file. Redownloaded and it still doesn't extract. I probably won't need it but you'll want to fix it if its your backup.
Doh!! Noooo!
In my head this was 50% off for the duration of the summer sale. I was going to buy it just now and I realised my mistake. I don't think I can buy it at the moment. I hope it gets another 50% discount in the future. :(

I stuuupid...

Try downloading it again, it extracted for me, I used download as standard, not the download as zip.
That packs the file in another zip, or could have been a corrupted download.

Decided to make a full post, with links to all the modding sites and sources.
Take a bit longer, but more useful.

I mentioned this in the HW forum but thought I'd drop a line in here that there is a cute, albeit altogether useless, 1st person trick for the original Homeworld. You get to see from the pilot's perspective of whatever ship you choose.

damn it. Me too, Nigel. I was waiting to purchase it when I bought the rest of my Summer Sale games, and now I looked at it today to see it was too much :(

GoG, please make it the release discount again, just for a few days. I'll buy 5,000 of them to make up for it ;)
Knew I had these somewhere. These are the original wallpapers that Relic gave away with the release of Homeworld 2. I'll leave the link up for a bit so that folks can grab them if they want. Don't know if GOG can redistribute them themselves or not, or if they even want to.

It doesn't look like a global issue. At the moment we cannot replicate it and other users report that game after patch 2.1 runs fine even without Galaxy installed.

Hmm, ok then I need to try it I guess. Could this be somehow related to whether you have had Galaxy installed at some point but uninstalled it (ie. there are still some remnants of an old Galaxy installation on the system, and the game tries to use them, or or or...).
