Hero of the Kingdom series comes to GOG and joins our Winter Sale, with a -60% discount on all titles! The offer ends on January 2nd, 11 PM UTC.

Hero of the Kingdom is a casual, adventure RPG series; you start the story as a hero who lost everything, family, house, a calm, peaceful life. You therefore set off on a dangerous journey, conquering the darkness that fell over the entire country. In further parts of the series, the theme seems to repeat itself, as if it was your destiny; to return to the risky, adventurous path whenever you think you found your peace anew, be it by the force of rebellious pirates, or unknown, ancient creatures. The Lost Tales parts though, introduce you to an entirely different stories: one being the quest to defeat a dragon who’s terrorizing an innocent town, and another presenting a completely new narrative, of a female protagonist.

Get ready for:
Hero of the Kingdom
Hero of the Kingdom II
Hero of the Kingdom III
Hero of the Kingdom: The Lost Tales 1
Hero of the Kingdom: The Lost Tales 2

these are excellent casual adventure games with resource management and very basic hidden object and rpg elements. on the one hand, they're all exactly the same (except hotk3 with its shitty rng and respawning enemies and grind) and I wish they mixed things up more, different settings, etc. but on the other hand, there's still nothing exactly like these on the market, so every few years it's good to play a new one because nobody's cloning it, basically, except these devs.

the lost tales are shorter, they decided to make 2 smaller games instead of a bigger one so they can release them faster, but the second one is ridiculously overpriced. they go much cheaper on steam during sales and if anything, this'd benefit from a complete bundle situation with some extra discount. wishlisted them all for now, waiting for better prices.

btw, there's a demo for each on steam, sadly not here from what I can tell.

Interesting. More casual games is always a good thing. It's a shame GOG has pretty much stopped bringing HOGs here. =/ Also, more puzzle games in general would be nice.

I've completed the first one a few years ago. I rather didn't like it. I get the idea of simple casual game, but it offers completely no challenge, no story and no sense. It's quite short (3-4h?), but it still feels like a waste of time, sorry.
I have the series and I like them, nice casual games
These games have some appeal, but I am kind of torn.
Do I buy just one, and if so, which one.
It really feels like I should buy the set, but that costs too much for what feels like one game made with five parts.
It doesn't seem like there is much difference between the games, a kind of sameness, but maybe any differences are worth it in a collective sense, making the set overall worthwhile.

A real shame they are not all bundled together at a good price. i.e. $15 AUD maybe. If they were, I'd say what the heck and just buy it, whereas currently I cannot make up my mind. EDIT - Currently the total is $20.81 AUD, which is a bridge too far.

I posted reviews here for 3 and lost tales 1-2, they might help. 3 is the only one that works differently, for better or worse. if you like the gameplay, grab them all for more of the same (probably wait for a better price), if you only want one, I'd recommend 1 or 2 (3 is a bit different and both lost tales are half the length of the others, though at this point with all the sameness I didn't mind). if you have steam, you can try the demos first.
• $1.99 • -60% • Hero of the Kingdom: The Lost Tales 1
• $2.39 • -60% • Hero of the Kingdom
• $2.79 • -60% • Hero of the Kingdom: The Lost Tales 2
• $3.19 • -60% • Hero of the Kingdom II
• $3.99 • -60% • Hero of the Kingdom III

HOGs = Humble Old Games?
(Never mind me asking, already been answered)

Two casual games come to my mind which I would like to see here: Governor of Poker and Diner Dash.

Guess I'll give the first part of HotK a chance to convince me.

Thanks for those, I did read them, and they were why I posted here ... so I guess they didn't help ultimately, just made me feel I would likely prefer a bundle. LOL

I'm also one of those folk, who collect demos, and then doesn't get around to playing them for years, by which point I may have bought the full game and so they are often redundant anyway. Ha ha ha ha .... what can I say.

I don't believe in gambling, but I will take a punt with games (and books, movies, music sometimes). All based on incentives like price and level of interest.
