rgnrk: Yes, he probably took it off because the bug only happened to him, and it was apparently triggered by him missing a torch. So at least it's not random and could be avoidable.

It's the way of today of doing hardcore/difficult games. The way of the Dark Souls. I rather be able to save the game myself when I want to, but WE ALL know it's more immersive and scary and hardcore and true gamer only having one. Dark Souls fans say so.
Yeah, I guess.
But why games like Wolfenstein: New Order or Doom 4 can't have separate and manual saves? They can be played on easy so it's not like it's for hardcore experience so I don't think there is much reason to.
They are not alone by far. I feel like many games do it.
And don't get me started on games like Heroes of Might and Magic 6 (whatever was it called). In all previous HoMM games you could save as much as you'd like but suddenly technology is so advanced the game can only manage limited amount of saves (something like 8 or 10 in this instance)?

rgnrk: ACG mentions the performance issues too, but on everything else...he is TB. He doesn't like puzzles nor story. So I wouln't have expected otherwise. I listened to his opinions and podcast in the past, but I find it increasingly harder to do nowadays. His self absorved persona has skyrocketed, or at least that's how it seems to me.
Yeah, I agree. especially recently I am not fond of him either. My persoal problem is I like Dooger and Jesse (now someone can quickly come and explain me why they are stupid/idiots/frauds/anything - because someone is not allowed to voice liking of someone of internet without being explained why he is wrong) so I have to put up with him quite a lot.
But I posted tweets where he mentions the game can delete your save on purpose and that it has possibly performance issues so I don't feel like his personality and behaviour make those invalid.
So I think it was quite unnecessary tp call him twat and basically invalid those tweets.
But that's GOG forum for me in nutshell. You can't go around more than 5 minutes without insulting/being insulted/see someone inuslt 3rd party, because decency is overrated and people need to know why someone is "insert explative here".

It's not uncommon that a large chunk ( 50+% ) of the budget is simply spent on marketing. Not a fan of Call of Duty or similar games either, but they actually do have very high production values and a lot of content... that's crammed into a linear, heavily scripted 5 hour campaign.

What puzzles me, is why Indie devs strive to reach that "AAA" label for their game, when it's debatable whether "AAA" is even a good thing...
Yeah, it's not only it's the whole production value.
That one will recognize a lot of money was poured into it.
One expects AAA game to look nice, to be polished around the edges, contain voice acting and to be quite extensive in content.
Other thing is that it often isn't but for this it usually gets criticized (to receive 8/10 then :-)).
Completely other thing is that even when it is all of the above it can very well be shallow, boring experience with no real substance at all.
Game looks interesting, but all these 1-2 hour 'best game evah' reviews on Steam and gog are kind of a turn off. :/
got my eye on this one, waiting on a sale. caught hubby watching the trailers too with a weird gleam in his eye :P hope some good in depth reviews are coming out soon

rgnrk: I finished Blade Of Darkness twice back in the day and I still think it's a great game even with multiple savegames, so I don't understand why that wouln't work in DS. In fact, I always thought the one savegame mechanic to be an artificial way to increase Dark Souls difficulty. And I still don't like it. But then I don't care for true hardcore gamer badges or anything like that.
(Edit: And I don't mean that as if you do. I mean that as in that's for me the only purpose of the one savegame slot)
You have to keep in mind that they are vastly different games. I've only played Blade of Darkness/Severance a little, but I got the impression it was much more old school in terms of game design, with levels and linear progression... ? The Dark Souls games have open, persistent game worlds, and your actions within those worlds have consequences. Consequences which would be meaningless, if you could just reload your last save game. Generally speaking, it's part of the game concept that the player has a lot of freedom and power, but also has to deal with the consequences of their actions. In example, you have the ability to attack and kill most NPCs, and some of them will drop useful items upon death, but then you may be missing an important trader, or won't be able to complete certain side-quests. In many ways the series break with standards of the RPG genre, or video games in general. Due to that it may be confusing or frustrating at first, but once you get into it, you realize the devs put a lot of thought into every element of the game design, and that includes the save game and checkpoint design.

As for "hardcore gamer badges", achievements, bragging rights or whatever... *shrug* I play those games because I love the world design, atmosphere and combat system, among other things. Not because they're the "hardest games evur herp-derp!!1". A certain amount of challenge is part of the game design, but they're not actually that hard. I suspect Blade of Darkness, or various other old-school games are just as hard, or more so.

They don´t; there are three levels of difficulty availible and the savegame is easy to backup. (AppData/Local/HellbladeGame)

The feature is mainly an athmospheric one, they included that growing dark-animation which looks really cool and so on, and less a gameplay feature in general.

Ninja Theory has an interesting relationship with the AAA title. One of their past games they helped develop was Disney Infinity 3.0.

Disney closed down infinity precisely because they didn't like AAA budget with so little profit (for Disney standards). I suspect this method is to create a AAA game experience using less money in order to convince a large publisher like Disney that the AAA game market is still profitable.

Maybe Disney will rehire Ninja Theory if this game is successful enough - or even consider pulling Disney Infinity out of retirement.

kotcore: It's not likely to die often enough for that to happen, unless you're playing on hard I guess, there's not that much combat.
Also, if you're worried about it and not a fan of the permadeath, you can just copy the savefile.
However this forum, like so many others on the internet, seems to mostly attract people who just love to complain, even though they haven't even played the game. :(

Yeah, the GOG Forum has always been a place full of people who mostly complain about everything in the announcement/release threads of games, this has happened since the "good old days" of the Forum, it's kind of a staple. Even if it's a game in a genre they don't like or they haven't bought -- and never will -- something urges them to come in these threads and "warn" potential buyers that a game is bad because they don't like it.

Fortunately, most GOG customers couldn't care less about the forums and just vote with their wallets by buying or not buying the games. Senua's Sacrifice is the second most popular game on GOG, right now, following Tacoma, according to the "Popular" list on the front page, so I guess all the crap we talk about in here doesn't really matter much.
Is it still allowed to have a differing opinion?

Does it annoy me that so many people feel like they *MUST* share their opinion on something they know nothing about or don't care about at all like they're some experts on the subject? Yes. Yes, it does annoy me to no end. But am I going to "forbid" people from continuing to do so? Nope. I'm not doing a damn thing about that. Just stating my differing opinion on the prevalent differing opinions, not trying to say "you CAN'T do that because I disagree".

So, yeah, buddy, I'm not intending to stop you from incessantly complaining about the prices of *ALL* the games on almost every release thread, either. But that doesn't mean I have to take it with a smile.

I'm undecided about the game but permadeath generally turns me off.
If save scumming is easy that's a minor concern then though.
I think this game is regional priced...

17,28 U$D in Argentina... Which is good for me, because 30 U$D is too much money here.

With "Independent AAA game" I think they mean the game comes with a high quality graphics and a high level of general production (including cinematics direction, writing, voice acting and mocap), but without a capricious publisher spitting in the dev' s heads and telling them how to do their job.

Trust me, in case of being backed by a big publisher, We wouldn't see a DRMFREE release of Senua; only consoles and Steam.

We have a DRMFREE release, because the dev team is the boss and they trust in their consumers.
MAX RESPECT for Ninja Theory for having the balls to shake things up! TBH I'm a little jealous of their success, as I've had a similar idea (in regards to permadeath and balancing; I've also long completed the base story script for that game - different genre though) but living in a small town in Romania...yeah...no team. And yes, it's 3D and I'm a complete tard when it comes to coding & modelling. FML

(But again, Bravo Ninja Theory. Oh, if only I wasn't living on welfare...)
