You’re in for a treat – we have some fun titles from HeartCoreDev! Synthetic Lover and The Symbiant are coming to GOG with amazing extras!

Synthetic Lover is a LGBTQ+ visual novel that takes place in 2066. Biologically engineered humanoids called “biots” make up a large percentage of the workforce; as a protagonist, you take up the role of one of the boots who, like the rest of his colleagues, lives to serve a single purpose: to fulfill his pre-programmed vocation. It’s a story about an individual who discovers the challenges of being a human, and during his journey navigates through the ups and downs of an imperfect life – learning to understand emotions, forming friendships, and possibly finding love along the way. Apart from the base game, you can enjoy the universe even further: through an Official Choice Guide, Artbook and an Official Soundtrack. All Synthetic Lover titles launch with a -25% discount; the offer ends on February 3, 3 PM UTC.

The Symbiant is, as well a LGBTQ+ visual novel, similarly set in a futuristic universe, in the year 5066. It’s a story of two men from entirely different worlds, embracing their newfound romance – Danya, the protagonist, after a troubled transport gig that left his and his friend’s beloved ship in a need of repair, receives a generous offer of transporting a mysterious alien calling himself Brahve. It is a tale of interstellar friendship and a quickly growing affection between two men. You can find even more content in a few extra titles: Game Choice & Achievement Guide, Artbook & CG Pack, and an Official Soundtrack. All The Symbiant titles launch with a -10% discount; the offer ends on February 3, 3 PM UTC.

If you still can’t decide, try out Synthetic Lover Demo and The Symbiant Demo!

BreOl72: Well, after seeing you mention Steam and the other store several times already in this thread as better outfitted in those regards that are clearly very important to you, I can not help to conclude that maybe Steam and the other store are better suited for you, then.

lis: Dude, thanks for suggesting me to leave because I don't have the same opinion as you. Really, really, great sense of diplomacy, congrats.
You're welcome!

Sarcasm aside: I like the fruits and vegetable, and the alcoholic beverages sections in my local Edeka more than their equivalents in my local Aldi.
However: I don't place my soapbox in the aisle of Aldi and demand to offer me what Edeka offers - I simply by my fruits/vegetables and alcohol at Edeka.

clarry: Well, I'm tempted to say that this degree of angry complaints about games you don't like is a new low for the GOG community.. but, to be fair, the community has had issues for quite a while.

But one thing is for sure: the community was always split on GOG's curation. I've always been in the camp that the more the merrier, and disappointed when GOG rejects games that their customers want. I don't think it's possible to reconcile these camps so we'll have to disagree forever.
avatar
lis: I think there are things we could agree on.

Apart from the fact that some games will probably never be on GOG due to licensing/exclusivity/price issues, I think GOG could do a lot more regarding their ports, compatibility with various devices, availability of previous versions of some games that got replaced with "remasters" that are not always appreciated etc.

Now if GOG is intent on showing their support for LGBQTI+ content they should take some notes from Steam's book and do it in a more sensible way.

There have been other cringe-worthy moments in CDPR/GOG's history and they should really look at how they're doing it if they don't want to alienate some (more) of their historical users.

Once again, Steam does all this in a much more sensible way.
The other platforms sport puke-inducing (in regards to the often overly aggressive colour scheme) rainbow-coloured banners on the front page advertising these kind of games too, especially around June, so where exactly is the difference in the way the other platform does it better and in a more sensible way?

I actually prefer Kaufland, much better spirits collection there ;)
Also I wouldn't complain about Aldi, for it's cheapness their Vodka is pretty good!

Yeah well as you can see I have been on GOG long enough and the core of GOG's promises are something that I really root for and wish they would do more about, especially when the competition does better in some other aspects.

Reaper9988: Actually since it's all probably gonna be deleted by the mods for the bigotry.
Why do I bother.
The door is on the right, don't let it hit you on the way out.
Mensch... You would be a great moderator! Let me guess... you learned how to appreciate opinions different from yours from your grandpa? :D

Kaufland is a labyrinth (at least the one in my town).
Finding something there is quite a task (nowadays).
Though, a few years ago, I also preferred Kaufland as my "goto" shop for the weekly groceries.
But it's also the farest away from where I live, so I bought closer at home for some years.
And when I decided to try KL again (just a few months ago) - they had changed their aisles, sortiment order...I just don't feel comfortable anymore.
I spent more time looking for stuff, than it would have cost me in the other stores.

The release doesn't break any core promise of GoG. It's drm free, not internet connection required.Hey it even gets good reviews all over the place including steam(at least Synthetic Lover). What am I missing......

Well, GOG had a puke-inducing color scheme from the beginning, so in your face Steam & company!! :D

Godwin's law seems to be true. LOL.

clarry: I signed up for DRM-free games, and am glad to see & buy DRM-free VNs too. Whether said games contain homosexuality or sexually explicit content was never a factor in my decision to sign up.
avatar
Spectrum_Legacy: I may be wrong, but aren't all those nsfw VNs that are available at sites like mangagamer, jast usa, denpasoft, etc (or even itch) also DRM-free to begin with?
Itch games definitely aren't all DRM-free. E.g. I came across this the other day: "full version game contains DRM!" https://roseverte.itch.io/how-to-take-off-your-mask

There's also games on itch.io that are only sold as Steam keys, e.g. this: https://precatio.itch.io/kokorogawari

Mangagamer seems to be all DRM-free, but I don't know about the others. I got some VNs from Japan that have DRM, unfortunately :( Even if these stores sold DRM-free now, I don't know if they are publicly committed to keeping it so. What's stopping them from switching on DRM one day? Or exchanging everything for Steam keys..

As most gamers these day seem to want, I too prefer to keep my games in one place. And I would prefer to put my money towards a store that is committed to DRM-free (I still somewhat believe in GOG despite their recent transgressions). I also don't see any reason why GOG shouldn't and wouldn't expand their selection of VNs; if they want to capture that audience, they should build up a catalogue large enough for VN gamers to take the store seriously. Whether they actually achieve that is another matter; my choice to buy on GOG is a simple vote with my wallet, which should also support other DRM-free releases on GOG.

I remember reading something like that a good while ago and would be surprised if it wasn't the case. They are all more specialised sites and likely to have a greater selection of niche themes, covering more kinks and fetishes than gog can ever hope to be inclusive of.
Definitely there are such sites. As for GOG -- I don't know about "ever." Certainly their past approach to curation in general and VNs in particular has been disappointing, but I also see the possibility that they'll eventually open up for more. And it's not like I'm after all the kinks and fetishes in the world, I just think that GOG should expand their catalogue and audience in order to attract serious big publishers and have some more classic VNs (and I don't particularly care whether it's nsfw or not, although many/most of the big titles seem to contain nsfw material). I'd probably have heart attack if they got Ever 17, Fate / Stay Night, Little Busters, YU-NO, Tsukihime, Steins;Gate, Clannad, To Heart, Kanon, etcetra. That'd be a dream come true, take my money yesterday!

Dude - you have serious problems.

Reaper9988: What am I missing......
As has been stated many times before, finding homo-erotic content on the front page of my favorite platform is my issue. i know it's not the first time and I do ignore those things 99,9999% of the time. Just wanted to voice my discontent for once.

I wrote it clearly before and labeling me homophobic or making other veiled or not-so-veiled insults won't change the point

Now if this rocks some people's boats, I don't care and I did not call for the game to be banned or removed or anything, I am just disappointed to see one more announcement of a "great treat" when actually it isn't and the "treats" I expect from GOG - technical improvements of the games they already offer for example, better device compatibilities, accurate search, etc, etc - take so long to materialize.

Once? You have 16 posts in this thread where you repeat your opinion. You are insulting other users and you derail this thread with off-topic posts. You are the main reason why this thread has been derailed in the last pages.

Just to point that out again:
So do ALL the platforms (advertising homo-erotic content, that is.)

Yes, once. This is the first and probably last time for a long while that I comment negatively on a new release. I didn't "insult" the guy I made a joke that was not-so-subtle in reply to his not-subtle-at-all suggestion that i should just go away.
Btw, I and the other unhappy commenters are not "derailing" the thread, we are just reacting - negatively - to an announcement. People who want to discuss games specifics' can do it on each game's dedicated forum. This is just a reaction to the announcement. Sorry to be one of those who don't think 100% like you but calling people that think different than you "bigoted" or implying other supposed "issues" that you could discover from reading 2 lines won't help.

Ok, but as others have indicated, where does it end?

Maybe next, they slash all remotely suggestive erotic content from the front page, then all the violence, then all content that suggests a particular political stance, etc.

Soon enough, they'd be advertising only puzzle games and games for children.

I think we've had enough censure already. Add filters that people can toggle if you will, but otherwise open the gates already.

The first part is your subjective opinion. For some people, this game is a "great treat".

For the second part, more generally, I think you should aim it more at GOG's more aggressive release cycle rather than a particular game being released.
