If you’re looking for chilling, lovecraftian adventures, you came to the right place – because Alone in the Dark is now out, with a -10% launch discount until March 27th, 2 PM UTC!

Alone in the Dark weaves a chilling tapestry of psychological horror and Southern Gothic charm, reimagining the iconic game that set the benchmark for the genre. We invite you to join us on a journey into madness, where each encounter could be your last. With each step you take closer to unravelling Derceto's mystery, the eyes that watch from the darkness grow hungrier. Every bullet means the difference between survival and an unthinkable end. The next door you unlock could lead to a nightmarish realm offering nothing but slashing claws, grasping tentacles, and frayed sanity. Journey to interbellum Louisiana, where an era of decadence hides a darker tale - of escape from past traumas and an intolerant society, into the waiting grasp of something darker, something that has patiently lurked for impossible eons. This is Alone in the Dark as you've never seen it - a skillfully-woven narrative of Southern Gothic elegance and eldritch madness that pays homage to its legendary origins while taking the next step forward in survival horror storytelling.

You can now also get:
Digital Artbook
Vintage Horror Filter Pack

sanscript: Not exactly fan of the lead actor either after the monologue he made a few years back. Maybe I should just play SOMA and Stasis again while I wait for a price drop?
.
Not a fan of him as well. He's another crazy actor that lives in his own bubble of reality. The female main character I have no opinion about and will probably play her first.
This looks really good to me, and I get strong nostaliga vibes and a love from the developers for the original, first game in the series.

Definitely wishlisted for now.
It's always nice to see more great games. Now return to the classics of horrors!

I feel so tired: Mod message: The information below is not true. Prices on GOG are the same as the ones on other official digital storefronts.

Nice fact checking.
But it should be in "staffer-blue", so that it stands out more.

kai2: One of the few horror games I'm interested in picking up, but...

... with that price tag...

... I'll "wishlist" and wait.

There are just too many titles that have been releasing lately (or are releasing soon). I may even wait on the sequel to my favorite game, Dragon's Dogma!
+1! So darn expensive! :/
I don't think the People complaining about the Price are aware how much Voice Acting is in this Game.
Just like in the Original there's a Ton of Books etc. all Voice acted, just with actually good Actors this Time :D

a bit off topic , but i post it in here :

Since the publisher ( THQ Nordic ) sets the prices ( even for the current Spring Sale )
Can you please explain why your company charge us more for the DRM free version of the same game than for the one that is infested with the Steam DRM ?
When you are purchasing from key [re]sellers, than. Otherwise, discounts and prices are exactly the same on GOG, Epic, and Steam.

Personally, I think that Steam is a little cheaper in some cases, by about 1 to 2 euros, give or take, but not nearly enough to justify a purchase there.

I don't care about production cost, only the price. :-)

While units sold at a higher price yield higher revenue, the number of sales will be smaller, and they will not break even any faster than with a more reasonable price of 3~4.95万/単位.

I was referring to the discounted price not the base one .

this may come as a shock for you, but different stores have different discounts at different times. There are games right now on gOg that are more expensive in other stores... because they are discounted here right now.

You cannot compare ddiscount prices - they are too changable. You can only compare the base prices - they are stable.

If the Production Cost is higher, the Price you pay is higher. That's they Way it is for every Game.
I was explaining because some People might not be aware of the extraordinary Amount of Voice Acting Work that was put into this Game.
But of course most People won't care, just whine when Things aren't voiced and if they are they'll whine about the Price :D

The issue is maybe that wasn't a good idea to spend so much on voice actors. 90% of the complaints have been about gameplay and bad performance.

It's harder to look over bad gameplay and performance than bad voice acting. The voice actors are probably the reason the game cost so much.

Okay, but what if we factor in how much worthless executives are being paid? Especially compared to the animators and voice actors?

XYCat: so is the game good? :D

kai2: I've watched a number of impression and review videos. I keep hearing it's a good game... but... not a great game.

Also, mentioned often is... if you have nostalgia for the Alone in the Dark series, you will probably quite enjoy this game.

Although a number of videos claimed there are a number of issues -- storytelling and gameplay -- a few said this is a good re-start for the series and they are interested in the future of Alone in the Dark.

IMHO it sounds like a solid AA horror game alongside something like Frogware's The Sinking City. Is Alone in the Dark over-priced? IMO it's a bit over-priced for what was delivered ($39.99 would have seemed more realistic IMO)...

... but...

... for me it's definitely a buy once the price comes down a bit.

(although -- being a freak for historical accuracy -- for me... Carnaby's fedora is a style not fully popularized until the 60's and much of the music used isn't indicative of 1920's jazz... but then a lot of games get historical clothing and music wrong)
you can switch to the historically accurate original Carnby :D
(if you have deluxe or buy the costume DLC)

I may certainly be wrong, but my understanding is that voice actors aren't paid that well. IIRC, something like a flat rate of $600 per 4-hour session. More for motion capture work if applicable.

Which does add up, especially with a voice-heavy game, but I would think other factors would cost much more.
