Whale Rock Games are a young video game studio from Kiev. This talented team believes in the idea that being a real fan of your work helps the whole team reach great success. And after playing their awesome titles we would most certainly agree.

We're more than happy that 9 of their games are now available on GOG and you can grab them with discounts as high as -85%! These offers will last until December 12th, 2 PM UTC. Let’s explore what adventures are hiding behind these games’ names.

Time Lock VR 2 (-50%)
Incredible virtual reality title. In this action-adventure game you have to free the soul of the ancestor imprisoned by the sorcerer in a magic stone. To solve riddles, you will need to move in time, but be careful, at the time of moving something may go wrong. Get ready to explore, battle with dark forces and take part in fun puzzles!

Dofamine (-85%)
First-person sci-fi puzzle game where you must explore the labyrinth of riddles and investigate the apocalyptic event at the research facility following the experiments with the Higgs boson, or “the God particle”.

Synthwave Burnout (-80%) - Early Access
3D rhythm racing game with amazing and eye-pleasing synthwave aesthetics. An arcade journey designed to give you an enjoyable visual and sound experience. The lost highway awaits you to take you beyond the horizon. Relax and let the sounds of synthwave open the way into the realm of neon - feel like you're inside your favorite 80s sci-fi movie!

Cyberpunk SFX (-80%) - Early Access
An action adventure game that tells the story of synthetic life forms struggling for their right to exist. You must survive in a near-future world where the AI systems are considered by law to be “Genies” — malicious otherwordly creatures who must be destroyed along with their creators.

NeuraGun (-80%) - Early Access
It is not given to everyone to identify unidentified connections and entities, correctly prioritizing. However, in order to assess your ability in this matter, you must at least try. The NeuraGun puzzle game gives you this unique opportunity. Here you have to think a lot and act consistently. NeuraGun is a third-person science fiction puzzle game. You will have to go through a maze of mysteries that will lead him out of the tangled scientific complex. Only the most capable will pass the test and get out.

Telika: Because you count Dofamine and Space Accident as two games.

my name is anime catte: Are they basically one game slightly tweaked and sold as two? A bit like Ninjabread Man and its various snowclones?

I nearly bought Space Accident a while ago as I like first person puzzlers, but the reviews put me off despite the low price.
I don't know. It's basically just me badmouthing the product based on the screenshots.

But still, I do wonder.

But also, I didn't realize it was a ukrainian company. Given the geopolitical circumstances, I'm ready to cut them some slack. And happy that gog lowered their standards for these, in the hypothesis that it was required.

GDude2022: Buyer beware. Even the most intriguing game, The Divine Invasion has some very critical negative reviews on Steam. Most people are talking about how broken the game is and how much function it is missing. But you'll see a bunch of short padded positive reviews before that. The whole thing seems sus.

I get it, supporting Ukraine is good, but I hope there are more devs over there than this as the games don't feel polished. They're also heavily broken as people have been saying, "shovelware." Definitely don't get any of these at full price. Whoever mentioned itch.io was right on track with this stuff.
This is the same studio that made Time Lock VR1, Deployment, and We Are The Dwarves. All games made since then appear to be low-quality, broken (based on reviews and gameplay videos), unfinished, and unpolished. That's been going on since before the war.

The studio has also been selling its games heavily discounted not too long after release (usually giving 80-90% discounts within a year). That has also been going on since before the war. The games were recently in Indiegala bundles. There were two bundles, each containing six games (all made by Whale Rock Games), with each bundle selling for $3.49.

In fact, that second Indiegala bundle is still available -- Cyber Whale II Bundle, pay $3.49 for the following six games (all redeemable only on Steam): Synthwave Burnout, NeuraGun, Inquisitor’s Heart and Soul, Cybernetic Fault, Cyberpunk SFX, and Euphoria: Supreme Mechanics. That bundle is active for the next 7 days 10 hours 35 minutes (so if my calculation is correct, it will end on 9 Dec 2022 at 10:00am UTC).

One thing I can't help but notice is that every Whale Rock Games (WRG) game on Steam has either a "Very Positive" rating or a "Mostly Positive" rating. When I last looked at each game, nearly all of them had either a negative rating or a "Mixed" rating. It's clear that there are a massive number of paid/fraudulent positive reviews for most/every game with the explicit purpose to fraudulently increase the rating.

Let's look at the overall release schedule from this "young video game studio from Kiev", and keep in mind that We Are The Dwarves was released in Feb 2016, so "young" is relative.

1. We Are The Dwarves, released on 26 Feb 2016
2. Time Lock VR 1, released on 9 Aug 2017
3. DEPLOYMENT, released on 10 Apr 2018
4. Euphoria: Supreme Mechanics, released on 17 Apr 2020
5. The Divine Invasion, released on 30 Aug 2020
6. Cybernetic Fault, released on 24 Sep 2020, Early Access (updated twice -- on 8 Jan 2022 and 17 Apr 2022)
7. Dofamine, released on 29 Oct 2020
8. Cyberpunk SFX, released on 29 Nov 2020, Early Access (updated once -- on 27 Jan 2022)
9. Synthwave Burnout, released on 4 Sep 2021, Early Access (updated once -- on 24 Nov 2021)
10. Inquisitor’s Heart and Soul, released on 22 Oct 2021, Early Access (updated once -- on 17 Nov 2021)
11. NeuraGun, released on 21 Jan 2022, Early Access (updated once -- on 3 May 2022)
12. SPACE ACCIDENT, released on 10 Feb 2022
13. Hell Division, released on 3 Jun 2022
14. Time Lock VR 2, released on 13 Jul 2022
15. NeverSynth, released on 15 Sep 2022

That's 12 games in 29 months (17 Apr 2020 to 15 Sep 2022), including 5 games still supposedly in development. I'll let the readers decide for themselves if they believe that's an appropriate workload and appropriate release schedule, especially for the five games currently in Early Access.

Let's remember that this war started in February 2022, so this behavior by WRG was going on long before the war started. The war may have exacerbated things, but it is, at best, a contributing factor, not the cause.

I can't even imagine what it's like living in Ukraine right now and of course we should support Ukrainian developers who are good, honest people. I'll let the readers decide for themselves if they believe these developers fit that mold.

TZODnmr2k5: More first-person puzzlers please, you should also try to get the 4-part Re-Think series and the like, thanks a lot for the acquisition, Gog all the same!
Slightly more broadly, I'd call it the 8-part ReThink series (ReThink 1-4 and ReThink | Evolved 1-4); they're all completely different games, not remasters or updates of one another.

You sure? Steam's graphs of when the reviews were posted seems to contradict that, there doesn't seem to be a time when there were more negatives than positives.

(I haven't played any of their games myself, so it's accurate to say that I've had more fun looking at the bar-graphs than actually playing them. But I don't like to see an accusation of fraud thrown around without evidence.)

Oh, hell yeah, never knew they existed!

Yeah, I'm really loving the first of the series so far, gives me an incredible workout for the 'ole logic muscle!

Releasing these games in this state is the worst decision ever made by GOG curators.
There's something fishy about the review scores of the games .

Someone is manipulating it .
