Razer apparently hasn't given up totally on their Forge microconsole, despite the fact that it still can't do some of the basic things promised at launch, like stream PC games to your TV or run Netflix. So they bought Ouya, not for its tech (which pales in comparison to the Forge), but for its game library. That's one way to build up your console offering,I guess?

Ouya has it's own library? I mean, wasn't the console running Android ports? I don't know. That thing was such a major failure at launch that I lost all interest, especially after one of the devs encouraged people to buy the games when during the console's previews and promotional videos she was encouraging people to hack it. Well then, hacking has it's negative points, you know. Either play ball or don't.

OUYA has got to be one of the biggest jokes I've seen on Kickstarter. Raises millions during the campaign, then (afaik) turns out to be a disappointing, underpowered Android device with a meager selection of worthwhile games. I also skimmed through the comments on their Kickstarter page and tons of backers didn't get a second controller that they paid for. And all those shipping problems...... what a mess.

Glad I never gave those scammers any money.

I've often hoped that someday, I'd be able to play video games while trucking along on my fold-up scooter.

I don't see what's wrong with the Ouya... Seriously, other than it's not as powerful as the you seem to be expecting a gaming machine to be, and with the assumption of consoles you're expecting at least a 360 somehow...

Glancing at the specs, it's actually quite a powerful system... Wiki 1.7Ghz Quad core ARM machine? Wow, that almost rivals my current gaming rig...

You call this a big joke, but you're apparently forgetting some CONSIDERABLY more expensive systems that do quite a bit less... I'll leave it here for you to look at :P

Still, using high-end gaming hardware to commune with spirits of the dead seems almost as cool.

The Ouya was incredibly underpowered for their stated goals and could not compete against the hardware in the rest of its market.

The release was a mess, games barely came to it and most people pirated them in any way since it was advertised as a system that you want to hack and mess with. Yes, in a promotional video on Kickstarter one of the devs actually said that. Is the Kickstarter page still there? I may link it for everyone to get a good laugh at it. Then the same dev (I think so at least) went against her own statements and said that people should buy more games on Ouya and pirate less. Then all the shipping problems. Some people didn't get their names on controllers/systems, or the thing at all. Some people gor someone else's system since it had a different name on it. The whole thing is a pretty underpowered Linux machine since it runs on a weird Android system.The OS itself is not a problem, but what were they expecting from a predominantly used mobile OS?

To be fair, they were talking about hacking the hardware, i.e. modifying the console to suit your needs, not hacking the software in order to pirate games.

Funny. It's the very first promotional video. Minute 2:21. "It's open for hackers." Surely she must realize that hackers don't do mostly good things, doesn't she?
I'll give her credit for the "balls" part though. That was funny.

In any case: The OUYA did one thing right. It brought mobile games that had pc/console potential to the TV.
