If it was released on a disc, like expansions use to... would you all still cry about it?

Because I bet you didn't moan back then about such things.

i did actually ;p
i got fed up with all the expansions to the sims 2 i stopped buying them new at one point

because back then you could actually buy em used ;p

it mostly depends on the actual content
if its a serious expansion pack that adds 15 hours or more of gameplay and improves things then sure ill be happy to pay for it

if its nothing more then bits and pieces and skins and crap that should have been in there in the first place then please fuck away off dlc
If I get a game, I enjoy it, and then am offered a chance to get more of it, I'm cool with it.

If I'm asked to pay full price for a game before release, based solely on trust, and then before the game is even out I'm told I won't have it all unless I pay X extra... no, I'm not cool with that, be it on disc or download.

It sounds pretty simple to me.

but the content hasn't been built yet, so where are you loosing out?

Sir, exaclty at this point it comes to trust. We all can't know if they just cut out something from the original game. This not possible to draw this clear line, when you got what you paid for and when the "company" is working on future projects.

And this leaves a bad image - at least in my mind.

Like every other company, they would give is waaaay more information in regards to the content. We've seen how many times now? Why would these guys be no different in their approach? If they want to create 30+ hours of content after the game and let us know they're doing it, then I don't see the problem.

I think peoples over entitlement is getting the better of them.
^ or maybe paranoia ?
after all how often have gamers been screwed over by greedy publishers ?

Indeed and if they were going for greed then they would sell it to us one expansion at a time for £15 a pop.

Lol, the expansions are coming out later this year (October i think) and in the next year so you think that they cut content? Besides, the game already is big (50 hours if i remember correctly)...
I don't like this word but some people really are entitled, they even have a good discount for those who already have both previous games (AND ONE OF THOSE WAS OFFERED BY GOG RECENTLY) and yet there's always something to complain...

Edit: Grammar.

Ok, let me put it this way.

I bought shadowrun dragonfall when it was still DLC attached to the original. It was absolutely great, I enjoyed it a lot. Later on, a few months after I had played it, the director's cut came out and it was flat out better. And it was for free, awesome right? Except, I won't get to experience that because I simply can't be bothered to play through the game twice. Had I known, I would have held back on playing the game until all the additional content was out. This doesn't mean the base dragonfall wasn't great, because it was; however the director's cut is meant to be flat out better and that's the version I'd rather play.

And staying with that same Shadowrun example: the base game and the expansion are two entirely separate stories. So I play dead man's switch, then a year later I play dragonfall and that's cool. Witcher 3 is meant to be an open world game, and as such I imagine these expansions will add an extra island or other kind of area to explore. That, or add extra events to the existing map. So if I play the base game by itself I'll either have a smaller map than when playing the expansions, or I'll have to re-explore the world when I get the expansions. I'd rather do it all at once, thank you.

Finally, I won't even have a computer to play W3 properly for years. Hell, even W2 doesn't run as well as I'd like so I'm still holding out on playing it! I only preordered the third one based on the devs track record and the trust of paying once but getting the whole game later down the line. Just like when I bought W2 back then and now I get the enhanced edition to play. Now, when I see this will not be the case, I can't help but feel cheated. And yes, maybe they hinted at it somewhere, but excuse me for not reading every interview in detail.

So again, whether it's on disc or via donwload doesn't matter. I'd be "moaning" either way.

But if the game is full of THAT much content (well they say it is), then maybe you'll still be playing it when the expansions come out...

It doesn't matter, my point is that the experience of playing the game is different from the start.

I'll drop in another example: strike suit zero. One day, it was on sale and I thought "hmm, I don't typically enjoy the genre, but it might be interesting to try it out for 2$". So I bought it. And then there were 2 more DLCs for 2 more $, and I thought, "Oh well, it's just 2$, may as well get the whole thing". And then the director's cut came out, improving the whole thing, and for the owners of the content I get a discount to get it for again just 2$, moment when I got seriously annoyed. Fuck that shit.

I don't normally buy games full price on release, much less preorder. I only did it with this one because I trusted I would get the "whole" game with one payment. I now know this isn't going to be the case, so while I can't speak for others I don't have much of a reason to buy it in advance anymore. I wanted to sleep on this situation, but the more I talk about it the more I feel I should just cancel that preorder. I've been hesitating about buying war for the overworld, might as well take the money I spent on the witcher 3 back and buy a game I can actually play now.

Again, how do you know it's not the WHOLE game? You're still assuming they're taking things out of the game. If they're adding to the game then you're getting the WHOLE experience and EXTRA content. Extra content is not the base game...

Season Passes are extremely common nowadays for AAA games, it's not like it's a case of all holy and blessed CD Projekt Red (all hail!) starting a new trend and proving once again that they're the saviors of PC gaming(tm).

And no, I don't have a stake in this war, I'm not interested in The Witcher 3, I just find it funny that whenever another company announces DLC/expansion packs then they're literally the devil trying to bleed poor little gamers dry but when CD Projekt Red does it then it's not only acceptable, why it's just the best darn thing ever and if you don't like it then go back to Steam/EA/Halo/Consoles/etc.
