Fesh: another publisher: Paradox Interactive

I only included Valve because people keep bringing their games up. TBH Paradox and Stardock games have absolutely zero chance of ever appearing on GOG.
i'd like to see square enix-eidos on GOG. not for final fantasy but for eidos -> Core Design games (the ones before Tomb Raider). you know - wolf child, both chuck rock titles
but now, that eidos is half uk half japanese :/
...i just want that good old games from the past.
i wonder - who 'ownes' MicroProse and Ocean (movies licensed games that were not THAT bad like most of these modern titles)?

Microprose are shared between Atari and Take Two. Ocean became Gremlin who were absorbed into Infogrammes who are now Atari.

Yep I mentioned SteamDRM with Lucasarts. On D2D they use SecuROM.

Delixe: Square-Enix
Why do we need them?
Unless you have been living under a rock you should know they now own Eidos and all their IP's like Thief, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex and Hitman.

Could you do me a favour and add Legacy of Kain to that list? (preferably before Tomb Raider ;))
Edit: Thanks :)

Delixe: What's their attitude to DRM?
Usually SecuROM with limited activations. In fairness though they do provide a de-authorization tool for Batman: Arkham Asylum so they are not unreasonable.

I think that only Steam version had limited activations. I'm not aware of any disc version of Eidos title using anything more than a disc check.

Thats something for another thread. Like list of Eidos games. I just picked Tomb Raider at random because like it or not it is extrememely popular. More so than Legacy of Kain.

It was just a request, because I think this series deserves more recognition than it does. And I think that it should be mentioned.

Delixe: I stand by what I said before. The only reason Driver: PL was released was because it sold so poorly and Ubisoft want to get as much money from that as possible. There is still no Splinter Cell, no Warrior Within, no XIII....

Ubisoft has been pretty stingy with their GOG offerings, true.

dudalb: I really doubt that it;s the DRM issue for older games like GOG sells. Some companies just are not interested in their back catalog.
As for Lucasarts, I am betting they have a exclusive deal with Steam for on line distribution, and we won't be seeing any Lucasart games for a while.

If that were the case, their back catalog wouldn't be available on Direct2Drive. And it is.

Delixe: Ubisoft are already on GOG as are 1C but neither have released anything in months.
avatar
Tantrix: I know, due their DRM trip, that's why. If a company changes it's standarts it's different to what it was before.

You assume it is because of the latest "DRM trip", there has been absolutely nothing official said by GOG or Ubi regarding future Ubi titles on GOG. We do already know that few titles are still in the pipeline (like Splinter Cell), but, maybe GOG just hasn't had time to get anything else from Ubi ready to go, considering all the effort being spent on Activision and Atari over the last few months. However, that is beside the point, Ubi as a publisher is already part of GOG and does not need to be anywhere on a list of publishers not currently with GOG.
I think the chance on getting Microsoft on here is zero.
If they release their old games, it will be in their own store on their gaming portal.
They want a piece of the pie that's digital distribution and have the money and IP to get it.
The sole reason for them to release a game on GOG might be to experiment with DRM free releases.
Something that's not likely as they're very protective of their IP, even their old titles.
As for EA, I think we'll be seeing them here sooner or later.
They're probably waiting to see how GOG is developing.
CD Projekt releasing some figures on GOG last week will certainly help.
They're not entirely blind for fans of their old IP, they released some C&C titles as freeware.
They released the C&C First Decade pack which sold quite well, so they know their old IP is still sellable.
I doubt DRM on their old titles is an issue to them.
They're aware their old titles are already all over the internet not making money for them.
I don't use Steam, so could someone who does list some GOG worthy titles from named publishers which are being sold on Steam?
For this thread it's interesting to see which companies are selling old titles.

I disagree. Stardock - yeah, true. But Paradox' games are on all the major portals. GamersGate is now an independent business. So there's really nothing that I can see which prevents Paradox from showing up here.
Another point. A pretty hefty chunk of Gremlin's back catalogue was purchased by Zoo Digital (ex. Gremlin people). Now they're called Zushi Games. For some reason their website is down (it should be at http://www.zushigames.com/ ). They release mainly console stuff, but have some PC-releases as well. As a small publisher I think they could be persuaded to release stuff on GOG.
Edit: Another potential publisher is CDV. They're pretty small now, but are still around and released some nice strategy games in their time. They need the money, so I am frankly surprised they're already here.

True I am probably being overly dismissive of Paradox. I just don't think they will see any benefit to joining GOG. I hope to be wrong though.
Zoo and CDV are certainly possible. I will update the main post accordingly.
Delixe - maybe it's good idea to 'sort' alphabetically publishers in main post.
in time we could have more and more of them there so it will be organized and easy to find/follow list.
