dudalb: I agree that SoD sucked.
But please, stop the Gamersgate crap. It has become two bunches of idiots shouting at each other. I agree that the SJW's are often very stupid, but a lot of people are defending REAL Bigtory under the guise of fighiting "political correctness". A Plague on both their houses.

GreasyDogMeat: How about no? I can be critical of cultural Marxism and dislike pandering for the sake of virtue signaling without worrying about being associated with 'real' bigots.
"Cultural Marxism"?
"Virtue Signaling"

All the alt right clichés.

And yes, I think a lot of it is a longing for a return to the day when White European Males rules the world, and to put everybody else back in their place.

Just Ain't Happening.

GreasyDogMeat: So was Cygi 'frothing at the mouth'? If so I'll echo his sentiment and froth at the mouth by saying I'm sick of the propaganda bullshit myself.
That's your thing to do. But you'll agree that "downvoting" of happy postings is nothing more than also propaganda, or not? Who to punish exactly? People for example happy to see a native version for Linux and other platforms than Windows? Or people happy to have higher resolutions? Games are luxury goods and therefore to have fun or even to think more of some interesting plots and actions. This whole "Gamergate"-stuff is absolutely nonsense as everybody can choose free what to do or support. But punishing people is absolutely the wrong way and those downvote-actions are childish reactions. You want to mention criticism against Beamdog? Do so. But don't blame people with different opinions or make here another political agenda out of it. That's it! :)

Carradice: Just measuring the downvoting effort. Are the haters going to bed? Are they being replace with fresh haters? Did they hate enough for today? Are their opinions not so much important?
I'll help you with the test. *clearing throat* I certainly will buy PST EE because

- I liked IWD EE very much,
- I never played PST and waited for its EE because of my positive experience with IWD EE, and
- I like to piss off the haters. :)

If that's not enough to trigger the downvoters, I don't know what does.

The fundamental problems with rating systems in forums are the reason why I don't like rating systems in forums. Thus, I don't give a crap about my rep value even if it means some people won't see my posts.

By the way, is the "hide posts" option on or off by default? Mine is off but I don't know if I changed it at some point in the past. I think it should be off by default to make it a conscious decision to create a happy filter bubble of ignorance for oneself.

edit: My rep is 75 at the moment.

I totally ignore rating systems on forums. Way too easy to manipulate, and way too easy to use them to "punish" people you don't agree with.

Cygi: Originals are not available separately = being forced to support Beamdog.

No.

Also, BG1 expansion and LGBTXYZLOL propaganda bullshit.

Never forget.
Seriously underrated con. I dont understand why people think the new edition is better when you have zero access to the original version.

Cliches or not... truth and the instance in SoD is a cliche example of just those things.

Can't speak for everyone but for me it's a longing for the return of the day when a-hole racists in media positions weren't trying to guilt trip white people for nothing other than their skin color.

Wait... so it's ok for BeamDog to make a political agenda out of it but not consumers? Hell... it wasn't even the consumers that made the SoD stuff an issue! It was Amber Scott of BeamDog that made it an issue i nthe first place!

When talking about "propaganda" in games there are even more and better examples and just talking about a dialogue is a little bit over the top from my point of view. And as I've said: You can do and write down those statements, but just be prepared that there are more opinions. Instead of downvoting the option is: Accept it. The world is colorful: The argumentation with "cultural marxism" is also some kind of questionable, but that's another story. All the arguments for now drive the thread more away from the major topic and that's the release of Planescape Torment Enhanced Edition. And I'm waiting for the release as I had much fun with the other games and I love the original!

Geez, the overreaction against Beamdog and this EE is strong. Some people need to get a grip.

Yes, such as in BG1 expansion.

I don't like it. It's disgusting.
Deal with it.

mkess: Nah, you can keep it. I stick with the original, until this versions drops down to 5 Euro, for testing.

Planesacape Torment is one of the classic games, I think of a sacrileg, to be remade and worse, changed. Mostly because the changer does not understand the genius of the original version.

This game is and was the best Bioware ever produced. A work of art, and financial, not surprising, a flop.

You can seem, how deep Bioware has fallen, if you compare this game direct to Mass (D)Effect Andromeda. ;)
Someone else in this thread has probably said this before me, but anyway, Black Isle produced PT, not Bioware. So using it as an example of Bioware falling isn't really all that accurate.

I have the original boxed version of PT and there is absolutely no mention of Bioware on the box or manual, the credits are for Black Isle. Even the first BG had more to do with Black Isle than Bioware- again I have the original box and Bioware are only credited with producing the Infinity game engine...the rest is Black Isle again. Only in BG 2 did Bioware really start fully producing a game. And for me BG 2 is where things started going down hill with overscripted uncontrolled events taking over from actual role play...so I don't think Bioware have fallen, I think they are where they have always been.

And also to those that say the EE versions are a buggy mess....I don't know, I haven't played them as I'm okay with moding the old ones. But what I will say is that I do remember Planescape Torment released with game killing bugs that prevented being able to finish the game and required a patch in an era when I had little to no internet access and had to wait 2 months for a patch to appear on an game magazine disc. Take the rosey glasses off, the past was not always better.

The problem is people don't accept it. People are losing their jobs for their political opinions in this day and age... and the issue with SoD was far more than one line of dialogue. We can, by all means, ignore the propaganda aspect of BeamDog because that is only one issue, and a fairly small one compared to how poor their work. So far, the ONLY work I've seen from them that was fairly bug-free was Icewind Dale EE... which is far more linear and simple than the Baldur's Gate games (not that there is anything wrong with that).

Really? Are you sure? I'd always thought Baldur's Gate was a Bioware game. I guess that explains why I always preferred BG 1 to 2 and why I felt Bioware was kind of slouching after.

While you have a point, realize this engine and game have been around for almost two decades and they still can't iron out bugs and issues. The EE have been out for what... 4-5 years now? Still long remaining issues are prevalent.

That's to say nothing of how boring and linear SoD was. Yeah, Throne of Bhaal was also very linear and SoD is designed in a similar way, but ToB was also very interesting from a story perspective.

Literally the only thing I found exciting in SoD was the revelation of who the final boss was! SPOILER - SoD is more of a sequel to Icewind Dale in more than just design.

I'm not downvoting anyone, because I don't give a damn.
So should you.

Also, someone is against Beamdog =/= downvote different opinion.

Pax11: are people actually down-voting people who say something as benign as "I bought it?"
"I bought it" isn't exactly a benign statement if it means implicitly endorsing shitty business practices (such as pulling the original game from the catalogue and offering it exclusively as a bonus on an "enhanced" version that costs twice as much),

avatar
Pax11: can people please be allowed to have a different opinion?
But people ARE allowed to have a different opinion. A post getting low rated simply means that a bunch of people either disagree with you, think you're an asshole or have become your sworn enemy because you disagreed over some political issue. The "not allowed to have an opinion" part only kicks in once someone complains to Fables about your post and it gets removed or you have your posts spam reported into oblivion.

Let me think ... oh wait: Did I mention you by name for "downvoting"? No. Did I mention anyone else by name? Also the same answer: No. This was just a general reaction because "downvoting" is nothing else than some kind of punishment for whatever besides that this rating system is also useless. And you made your point clear. Do I have to agree with? Again: No. It's just a part of a dialogue. And it is an overreaction making this thread here to another political lobby.

Last reaction from me, because I think the thread is driving into political madness as it is used to make another agenda against the beloved enemy "political correctness" (playing some bullshit-bingo would be the preferred description in my eyes): Is this the case especially here? And people to be hunted down for some behaviour is also the false reaction, but I think this should be clear enough. Being reasonable means to stay in touch and to communicate. Not to get any type of "punishment" again or using single-sided views or type of words. Or should I say: Today even people with just idealistic values are called "SJW" just because their comment fits into some kind of profile? And it's all about profiling, which should be stopped and questioned. We are all the same, just humans and therefore imperfect but we should be ready to learn from failures of the past and don't repeat them in just other combinations. But enough of this! You've your point, I've got mine and I'm happy to see this new version here. Have a nice evening, day or night - depending on the timezone you're living in! :)
