Same devs as Memoria/Chains?
I'm very conflicted about this. On one hand it's an adventure game by Daedalic, so that's just about the best thing possible. On the other hand the choice-based episodic model reminds me more of Telltale than Daedalic, and while I have nothing against the Telltale stuff, I don't want Daedalic to go in their footsteps. I want them to keep making great, classic point & click adventures. Also, my only contact with Pillars of the Earth so far was the TV show, and frankly I didn't much like it.
Insta-pre-order.

I despise episodic gaming (thank you Mass Effect 2) as much as i despise preordering (even though some companies handle it better than others) so i'm not making any moves until the game is completed, but the game looks great & the story sounds interesting. Definitely a title i'll consider buying later. Any ETA info for the 2nd & 3rd episode or does the "when-they're-ready" apply here?

The next classic style game will be The Devil's Men, which looks really promising but won't be out until 2018. As for Pillars, I'm not at all a fan of episodic Telltale games, but it's still Daedalic and I'm hoping it''ll sell at least well enough that they can keep producing great material. I think Shadow Tactics was the only recent game published by them that had any real success.
Well I'm curious but I have read the book 3 times and so know the story well - to the point where I could identify the scenes and characters shown in the trailer.

I wonder if this will this be a hindrance or a help when it comes to playing the game....

Was wondering something similar. Will there be any actual choice involved if the game follows the book?

Any source on The Devil's Men release date for 2018 or is that speculation? I haven't seen them mention it in awhile and they don't update their websites.
high rated
Nice pre-order offer, would be even nicer if Daedalic would finally, FINALLY give gog customers the German version of Chains of Satinav (Memoria, too). First they fed us a big bunch of bollocks about how they can't bring it here because of flat pricing. And now that they introduced regional pricing - pretty hefty regional pricing at that - nothing has changed. Would be awesome if they could finally drop those German versions here!

I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is: If Daedalic puts the German versions of Chains Of Satinav and Memoria on gog before August 15th, I'll pre-order Pillars Of The Earth! How's that for a pre-order incentive?

I like the Telltale stuff, but I'd hate for it to dominate the adventure game market. I like those games as a change of pace, but it would suck if other adventure games devs all went in the same direction. Still, it will be a long time before I catch up with Daedalic's recent stuff (I still haven't even bought Deponia 4, despite loving the series), so I shouldn't worry too much about the future. I've got quite a backlog, and less then no money to spend on new games :D

Hmmm, I can't find a direct source to prove it with, but I recall it got mentioned as being released in 2018 at the earliest. Several sites also give the 2018 release, but without citations.

They're okay, but Daedalic is so much better at making classical style adventure games that it's a waste when they limit themselves to the Tellate style. I haven't played a single point&click game that they made that I didn't enjoy in some fashion or another and that's a hard thing to find nowadays. It's rather weird how people keep talking about how the adventure genre is dead when Daedalic has consistently been putting out quality games for years now.

Deponia 4 I can recommend getting at some point if you liked the other three. It's more Deponia all the way.
This looks interesting
Had to do a double take there when I read the title : uhm, is gog selling books now? Very good book I thought, hopefully the game manages to measure up to it. But yes, not sure how choice driven it can be if it follows the book. Though I'd be perfectly happy with a regular linear adventure game based on the book as well.
