Now that Russian gamers have been welcomed there are a number of reviews in Russian popping up (Sea Dogs has some examples). Naturally, non-Russian users are marking reviews in that language "unhelpful." Please stop doing this. Although a review in another language is technically unhelpful to you, you should ignore it so Russian users can influence those reviews themselves. Eventually, their reviews will all be buried if it continues. Please have some consideration.

I noticed this earlier, too. But for a majority of GOG users, I expect those reviews are unhelpful. The system is working as designed (even if the results do come across as inconsiderate).

I think this fix is up to GOG. Perhaps they could allow users to filter review languages. That way, the best reviews of each language would rise to the top of their individual filtered sections.

A mash of reviews in multiple languages would benefit very few users.

Agreed, thought this too.
I thought the same about a few german reviews, they're just as useless. But with the page being in german/russian/french by default for many now you can't really blame them. Maybe a language selector for the reviewers would help, so only people with the page in language X get reviews in that language. +english... not sure if that would work.

Here's how I see it:

Don't write reviews in anything but English until GOG manages to make separate language sections for the reviews. Yes, that might take years, or might not happen at all, but having everyone write in their own language is simply stupid and futile. I know there are quite a few other Danish users here, but I would still never dream of writing a review in Danish here, as that would simply be extremely rude to everybody else.
^ great idea wont happen
The only way reviews on this site will have any credibility is if GOG does what Gamersgate does and vet them themselves. Then remove the whole broken voting thing. I know that would be a significant drain on one of their team's time (or several people, given the different 'recognised' languages here now), but it's the only way those reviews have any chance of being worth a damn. Right now even Steam reviews are better and half of those a poor attempts at humour.

My recommendation would be for GOG to vet two reviews of a member then after that green light any further reviews they post automatically (unless one is reported as spam).

I agree with the filter suggestion. But downvoting reviews just because they're not in English is really bad form.

I like those reviews. I cannot understand the problem. They cannot be unhelpful, since anyone can use google translate on them! Lazy bums are unhelpful, instead! Russian language is great, as well many other things that side!

I myself didn't understand the least bit of Russian, yet i joined russian-only language socializing sites and besides actively trying to learn language and words, i frequently use google translate! If no one is willing to learn one or two extra languages, where is the fun, damn it all?

I agree, a language filter would be perfect in this case.

Well technically you're just saying they're not helpful to you, so the system is working as intended.
It just shows poor foresight on GOGs part.

You obviously haven't seen The Backstroke of the West. Google translate is not the silver bullet for all your translation needs.
