timppu: So no Gothic 4 then?

It was my most awaited game since Ultima Underworld 3.
Seeing as another studio is doing the Gothic Remake and Embracer keeps the IP, I'm guessing there will be a Gothic 4, just that it'll once again be different... Which, you know, wouldn't be the first time.

SpaceMadness: I have Gothic 2 & 3 in my library. They must have been a part of giveaway or something.

Anyways, are there any recommendations for Pirahna Bytes? I am considering putting those games higher on the priority list if their games are in danger of delisting.
In particular - Gothic 1 and 2; Risen 1 especially; and ELEX 1.

Gothic 3's good, but it ain't Gothic 1 and 2. G3 is too big for its own good trying to be a ES-type of Gothic in scope, was buggy as heck when it came out, had long load times - but I still liked it, even despite itself.

Don't get me wrong - I really liked Risen 2 and 3, but I just prefer Risen 1. Risen 1's great.

In the middle of ELEX 2 - and I'm already liking it A LOT.

EDIT - I have G2 Gold ,but never tackled it. I did play OG G2 and it wasn't easy, yet many players say G2 Gold with NOTR installed is harder. So, you might wanna get a OG G2 copy (Gamersgate sells G2 Original - https://www.gamersgate.com/product/gothic-ii/ ) and do that first and then do a Playthrough of G2 Gold.

OldFatGuy: Well, I'd enthusiastically recommend Gothic 1 and Risen 1. Elex 1 and Risen 2 are also good, just not as good (IMO) as Gothic 1 and 2 and Risen 1. I was personally very unhappy with Gothic 3, and Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods... what a pile of crap, although even though THQ Nordic published Forsaken Gods, it wasn't a Pyrahna Bytes game at all, some other studio did that one (I think).

As I said above, I think it's far more important who the individuals are than the company. Again, my three favorite PB games are Gothic 1, Gothic 2, and Risen 1. And those are the three games that Michael Hoge had the biggest hand in. I'll look over some other PB offers and see what i can remember, but I can wholeheartedly recommend G1, G2, and Risen 1. And Risen 2 ain't too shabby.

ADDED: Well, there are apparently no other PB games here at gog then those already listed. I checked Steam, and the same there. I guess PB was working solely in the RPG realm. I'm not finding anything other than the three series mentioned (Gothic, Risen, Elex).

Also, fun fact... The likeness of the Nameless Hero in the Gothic series is Michael Hoge. And it's actually a pretty good representation of his face (at least for early 2000's graphics capability).
Late reply, but thank you both for the recommendations. I lnjoy RPGs, but there is a lot of competition and it would be difficult to play through them all or least experience a significant portion of the game. I have all the games on wishlist for now. Elex in particular seems interesting to me, since I have been looking for more sci-fi RPGs.

Elex in particular seems interesting to me, since I have been looking for more sci-fi RPGs.
ELEX 1 last month for a short-time period was in a $12 Humble Bundle loaded with some other RPG's for GOG - which had GOG-keys for KC: Deliverance, Vampyr, Wasteland 3: Colorado Edition, Greedfall: Gold, and other underrated RPG's. That was the best time to have bought ELEX 1.

If you're looking for sci-fi RPG's, check out these:
Star Wars: KOTOR 1 and 2, Cyberpunk 2077, the entire Deus Ex series (especially Deus Ex 1: GOTY and Deus Ex: HR DC), the entire Fallout series (except for Fallout 76 - it's meh, multiplayer-only, and not on GOG - so get Fallout 1, 2, 3 GOTY, and 4 GOTY, which all range from really good-to-great), Wasteland 2 and 3, Shadowrun Returns Trilogy (SR Returns, Dragonfall, and Hong Kong), The Outer Worlds with all DLC's (For Eridanos DLC) or The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition (which is a Remaster for high-end PC's, provided you got a good PC - just make sure you go Complete Edition either way so you get the awesome Eridanos DLC), GameDec, Mars: War Logs, and The Technomancer (i.e. Mars: Wars Logs spin-off and sequel of sorts).

Mass Effect Trilogy (with all DLC's) or Mass Effect: Legendary Edition (Collection with ME1,2,3 and all its DLC's) is also great - but that's normally on DRM-walled stores (i.e. Origin and Steam). I wish it would come to GOG.

I have to check out Encased, Underrail, ATOM RPG and Trudograd at some point myself; all backlogged right now.

Also, for sci-fi stuff - even though these do lean more on the immersive-sim side (shooter/action/RPG/stealth hybrids) - go check out Bioshock series, System Shock series, and Dishonored series.

Out of the sci-fi RPGS you named, I played most of them and I enjoyed them, especially Shadowrun Trilogy. Gamedec, Mars:War Logs, Technomancer are in my backlog. I played some Wasteland 2, but didn't get far into yet, will get Wasteland 3 later. I had my eye on Outer Worlds for a while, but waiting for a better price, especially when I want all of DLC except Spacer's Choice.

Mass Effect Trilogy (with all DLC's) or Mass Effect: Legendary Edition (Collection with ME1,2,3 and all its DLC's) is also great - but that's normally on DRM-walled stores (i.e. Origin and Steam). I wish it would come to GOG.
I only played the first Mass Effect on the PS3. I was hoping for GOG release as well, since I think the combat would be more suitable for me using a keyboard and mouse. I have trying to avoid stores like Steam and Origin, so console may be my only option for a while.

I have to check out Encased, Underrail, ATOM RPG and Trudograd at some point myself; all backlogged right now.
I heard Encased had troubled development, thus had a strong beginning but feels unfinished endgame. I haven't got got too far personally, enjoy what I experienced thus far.

I personally find Underrail frustrating and fascinating at the same time. It's a combat-intensive game that tests the player's build and resourcefulness. As a person that likes hoarding loot, the weight limitations can be annoying when combined with merchants that particular about what they will buy at the moment.

Also, for sci-fi stuff - even though these do lean more on the immersive-sim side (shooter/action/RPG/stealth hybrids) - go check out Bioshock series, System Shock series, and Dishonored series.
I liked the first Bioshock, but haven't got around to the sequels yet. Endgame areas aside, I had a good time with System Shock 2. I have reservations about System Shock 1, although I might try the remake.

I loved both Elex games so much. They were my personal GotYs in 2022!
Sickens me to think THQ Nordic will continue Gothic (starting with the remake) without Piranha Bytes.

IMHO the only issue with the more recent PB games -- that kept them from mainstream success -- was a better combat system.

You mean to say that Gothic 1 and 2 had a good combat system? Seems to me like it was their biggest problem too, but it was the atmosphere and setting that made them great games.
And indeed, someone else continuing that IP is just wrong. Not that it didn't happen before, going as badly as would be expected (Forsaken Gods, Arcania).
But there's also the fact that PB hadn't really been trying to make another Gothic since the first Risen either. They kept the trappings, implementing them in all Risen and Elex games, but Risen 2 tried to go in a different direction, then Elex was in a different class in terms of setting, and I'd say that's what wasn't working well. If you gained a following thanks to making such good use of the setting, despite the janky and downright frustrating combat and character development, keeping the janky parts but deciding to do it with pirates or switch track entirely and go sci fi doesn't seem like a good idea. And that article says that now they were finally trying to work on another dark fantasy game while trying to get rescued, but it might have been too little, too late.
I suppose I should pick this up before it gets delisted.
Is there any indication that the PB games will be de-listed from GOG? I don't see why the games would necessarily be de-listed, if the studio is closing.

For example: Origin, SSI were shut down many years ago, yet a bunch of their games are on here.

Embracer became infamous for their acquisitions. Now, they are becoming infamous for their shutdowns.
high rated
Exworkers of Piranha Bytes have opened a new studio, Pithead Studio, with Bjorn Pankratz, that was creative director and composer in Piranha Bytes, and Jennifer Pankratz that was scriptwriter too in PB.

Let's hope they will create a game and not just a meeting after years : D Big hope

Who's going to update the games if the developer is gone though...the MOD community?
