After you, Mr. Huge Deadly Dragon.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire just received a significant free update which introduces the option for turn-based combat.
Incidentally, the game is now 34% off until January 30th, during our HOT SALE.

As the most powerful captain in the Archipelago you can make even gods bow to you, but that doesn't mean you should forget your manners. This free update adds the option to play every combat encounter in turn-based fashion, fundamentally changing the tactics, use of skills, and overall feel of the game.
The mode is still in beta so give it a whirl and let the developers know what you think.
Yeah, no, I'm good.
That's news indeed
Thanks!

Between turn-based and RTP, I prefer turn-based.
Excellent. Wonder if we can get the same treatment on the first one...? Still great news!!

It was yesterday at least
Glad I haven't gotten to this one because of a massive backlog... much prefer turn based
Wishlisted because of this news.

(Still too expensive for me to actually consider a purchase, however.)
I love turn based games but, as it stands, this implementation is awful. I got as far as the encounter with the 2 revenants and the construct in the sea cave and quit after 5 minutes of clicking (and God why do you have to press end turn every turn? I though action ends turn was pretty much the norm these days), 1 revenant down, and I was loosing the will to live.

This is a small encounter with a party 2 against 3 mobs which would have been over in 30 seconds RTwP. I know turn based leads to longer encounters but this is just excruciatingly slow and feels really clunky.

Thanks Obsidian!

I midly hate this decision. Pathfinder Kingmaker is much better game than POE2, but some TB advokates try to make Owlcat devs make turn based.

You don't like RTwP - sure, don't buy RTwP.
Want to carter BG fan by making this game RTwP BG clone - great!, don't mess up RTwP with awful Pillars game battle mechanics
want a wider audience? - make your priorities straight - either you want RTwP or you want TB.

I played first Pillars, but battle system isn't as good as Pathfinder KM. POE2 had decent combat, but not nearly as fun as PF.KM.

I don't mind TB. I can play TB. But don't make games suck because, well, money.
As long TB is only set as an option with the default setting as RTwP, then I'm good with that.

Options for players to choose how they enjoy the game? Sounds good.
Getting these options as part of a free patch to the game? Even better.
This is a very nice surprise and must have taken a lot of work.
Also, I am good with RTwP, but this will definitely make some people happy :)

Let's put aside obvious RT/TB > RTwP for a moment, and the fact RTwP is chosen because of nostalgia (and money).

Well, Dungeons & Dragons/Pathfinder is a turn based board-game, so it makes sense it's adaptation is turn based as well. That would also easily allow implementation of a things like say, the fucking TIME STOP spell!

And while Kingmaker is on my wishlist, I did hear they buffed mobs a lot compared to the tabletop version, presumably so it can be played RTwP. Or maybe just because they are Russians.

EDIT: Not advocating for anything, just stating facts. I played a crapton of RTwP D&D games, and am always for more. But TB is the better way to play them.
