TLTR: There is hope & life even if GOG shutdown by their own stupidity.
rjbuffchix: Imo, GOG wants us to get fed up with the limited discussion here and be frustrated enough to leave.
Probably, one of the bests ,,ideas,, their lazy & incompetent human talent could come up with.
rjbuffchix: This forum, as far as I can tell, is the last bastion of a place that includes people who care about DRM-free gaming in any sort of significant number.
I disagree. IMO you are romanticizing/overestimating GOG.
What about then with all those independent devs/pubs, the FOSS, the client-free vgaming stores, vgaming websites like pcgaming[EXTRA]wiki, blogs, etc. out there?
Are they going to dissapear at the exact minute GOG shutdown? Absolutely No.
rjbuffchix: GOG subreddit does not meet this criteria; in fact I recall people on there discussing how "toxic" GOG forum supposedly is, with the toxicity apparently meaning those of us who dare to want a 100% ownable product when we purchase it here instead of being coerced into using the "optional" client.
Personally I refrain to use (and ignore instead) the ,,trendy term,, "toxicity" as much as I can because its ambiguous & stupid usage.
And you might agree, considering you are providing an example of the wrong tag applied to us.
Call us retrogrades, hostiles, antisocial (choose the term you like) and then we can have a constructive conversation about it. Otherwise, we would have a useless & endless argue...
Just to clarify: I mean not you rjbuffchix (you are the messenger), but anyone prefering the ,,trendy term,, "toxicity"
rjbuffchix: For those interested, Zoom-Platform's discord I assume would be the next biggest place of people who care about DRM-free gaming all in one place.
Do you mean as a -forum space- to conversate?
I've not used discord. From what I've read (including the specific ZP case too)
I assume it's their -Q&A/support- channel... and a kind of massive chat (with video streaming)...
Not appealing to me this IM client in turn and it does not sound "DRM-Free" dedicated either.
But if you/somebody have more info, please share to reconsider.
rjbuffchix: If GOG does away with the forum or it fades into obscurity since no one is left around to champion DRM-free, then I think the continued DRMification of GOG and PC gaming in general will go full-Steam-ahead. Does anyone else think there is anything to my theory?
I insist you are romanticizing/overestimating GOG.
GOG is not the DRM-Free paladin nor the bastion.
An important & relevant -commercial- case? Yes
And if they sink, it's gonna be by their total lazyness & incompetence not because "DRM-Free" as business is not viable (another of those ,,ideas,, lazy & incompetent human talent come up with and is already being spread here in the forum)
But it is up to us, the vgaming users to realize that, give it the proper dimension, and do not follow their lazy & incompetent games (mental gymnastics, excuses, lies, stupidity, etc)
