I just discovered your list a little while ago and was surprised by lots of things on it. Things like Alone in the Dark and Another World are games that I've played for months and still have never beaten. They *can* be beaten, but only after you've mastered each section.

Nonetheless, fun list!
Raiden 3 should be added to the list (relatively easy for a shmup, of course "very hard" mode is another matter ^o^). Concerning Raiden Legacy, as there are 4 games in it, unless you're some mutant or have played them before, it would take more a few hours to master them all.

IAmSinistar: catpower1980 seems to disagree, at least with regards to Knytt Underground. :)

Yes, Risk Of Rain is more of a burst-play game that takes a number of rounds to truly complete, unless one is very good and very lucky the first few times. Two other games that I am currently playing which have short but incremental plays that improve your future condition are Luftrausers and Shattered Planet.
I was thinking about Saira, Knytt, Knytt Stories and Within a Deep Forest when I wrote "many". Knytt Underground took me more than 10 hours, because of my slight OCD and the need to finish all the rooms, so yeah I wouldn't put in the list.

Thanks for the info, since I found out that I'm a sucker for rogue games and incremental plays I'll definately check these games out.

catpower1980: Hopefully for me, "many" doesn't count for "all" :o) Nifflas did so many games :

Concerning Knytt Underground the speedrun record is less than 30min but hey there are some über crazed gamers who finish Dark Souls in 1 hour :o).....
Those speedrun lunatics are really skillful bastards, makes me a little bit jealous :)

While I doubt that one could finish the original Superfrog in one day thanks to its difficulty, the noticeably easier HD version can actually be completed in some hours.

I'm not putting shmups on the list in general because almost all of them are short games by their very nature. It's an artifact of the genre. :)

Thanks, your recent review seemed to indicate this as well. I'll get it on the list.
Mighty fine post you made, IAmSinistar.
The lady and I favorited this topic for those indoor gameday events and have been using this for reference.
Thanks again!
Added Deadnaut, as suggested by Sachys.
Jisei can be finished in 1-2 hours.

Spate hardly takes more than an hour to play through, 90 minutes at max.

I spent about 6 hours on Detective Case and Clown Bot in: Murder in the Hotel Lisbon while exploring all options, doing all sidequests, and including some backtracking when I didn't find a solution at once. Others might be able to complete it in one evening (but I guess it's a borderline case, it was longer than I expected it to be and I found it more fun to play it with breaks in between, in several sittings).

I just came upon this thread, I hope it can stay active as I'm very much interested in games that can be fully experienced without devoting significant amounts of time to it. Definitely favorited!

I don't really understand in this day and age when people complain about a game being too short and then go on to complain about having unplayed game catalogs in the hundreds or thousands, yet continually adding more games to the list by purchasing them in bulk at prices substantially cheaper than any feature-length film.

But I digress.

I'm not sure if it was mentioned yet and you all may already know of it, but this site has come in handy for researching average game times:

http://howlongtobeat.com/

Also, a few games to add to the list:

* DEFCON
* Papo & Yo
* Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo - (this is actually a much better game than I expected -- the level of interactivity with every bit of the world is impressive)
* Tengami

Also, Mirror's Edge is close... I could see it being a one-day game if pulling a marathon binge session, but in most cases I think it is more like a 2-3 day affair to get through the main story without a guide.

Detective Case and Clown Bot in: Murder in the Hotel Lisbon ~6 hours like Leroux already pointed out.
Fractured Soul ~3 hours, if I'm not mistaken(already beat it a long time ago).
Sickbrick between 1 and 2 hours.
SteamWorld Dig I don't remember the length of this one, but I know it's not a very lengthy game and howlongtobeat confirms it.

Great thread! How have I missed this?

I just played Spy Fox in Dry Cereal, which was similarly a pleasant surprise. Took about 2 hours. I would guess that a lot of Humongous games would fit nicely here.
This thread has been in my favorites for a long time. I keep the list as a text document at home, where I don't use internet. Great to have new people finding it and adding to it!
The first Red Faction took me about 5 hours, according to the in-game clock. You could probably add 1 hour thanks to deaths and retries, so I will leave it upon you to judge whether it should be added.

Major Mayhem also isn't particularly long, though it being an essentially lightgun game in sidescroller perspective might disqualify it from the list.

Gun Metal is also a very short game (took me less than 2 hours). Still not sure if its nature as a game should disqualify it, though.
Wow, lots of good additions, thanks folks! I'll go through them and update the list as appropriate.

Glad to see some GOG title additions. And I've got Hotel Lisbon, so I'll check that out as well. Same with the Humongous titles, which I suspect along with pablodusk will easily qualify here.

Cheers everyone!
Adding:

Jisei
Spate
Murder in the Hotel Lisbon
DEFCON
Papo & Yo
Humongous Games (Pajama Sam, Putt-Putt, Spy Fox, Freddi Fish)
Tengami
Fractured Soul
SickBrick
SteamWorld Dig
Gun Metal

Plus now I get to update Bastion with a GOG link. :)

Big +1s to all the list contributors!

Quick question on Jisei - are the other two games in the series (Kansei and Yousei) also one-day games? I have them but have not played them myself yet.
