Thanks for bearing with us in this thread. We’d like to announce that today we’ve introduced the addition of new installers, with implemented GOG Galaxy client.

Like Destro described it back in May, we decided to separate the „new" and „classic” installers, for your choice. So if you don’t care about the features like achievements or cloud-saves and don’t want to use GOG Galaxy, you can download the „Classic Game Installer", just like it was handled before. For games that have new installers, the default download view on „My account” will show the "GOG Galaxy Game Installers" - you will notice that, as it is visibly described in „My account” game view. To download the „classic” ones, just go to „Options" and choose „Classic Installers”.

The new GOG Galaxy Game Installers were added to +100 games - a selection of all games that make use of GOG Galaxy features. I'll post the current list of games with the new installers in a separate post.
Going forward, all new games that will use GOG Galaxy features, will now receive both GOG Galaxy Game Installer and Classic Game Installer.

Introduction of GOG Galaxy Game Installers doesn’t change anything in terms of keeping the Classic Game Installers up to date. As soon as we receive an update for any game, we will prepare an updated version of the classic installer, just like it was done in the past.

Are you kidding me?! First you force redistributables in your installers, then you change the theme by breaking mobile support and putting wallet funds in your face which I'd rather hide from prying eyes. Then you bundle Galaxy?! Gog may be drm-free but it certainly isn't gamer-friendly. Corporate giant wanabees!

I really hope GOG reconsiders this. If someone wants to use Galaxy they can download and install it themselves easily enough; it's not like it's easy to miss on the website & account pages with how heavily GOG has been pushing it. People using the offline installers have already made the decision not to use Galaxy!

If (GOG) you insists on having that checkbox/installation there, why not have it on a separate screen of the installer, and have acceptance of Galaxy installation download Galaxy straight from the web. It isn't like a user gets a lot of benefit from Galaxy if they aren't online.

Don't bundle Galaxy with the installers, just have a hotlink to where ever. That should shrink the extra installation size quite a bit.

So each time I download an offline installer for a game, the installer is inflated by 100 or 150MBs? What if I already have, hell, what if I use Galaxy to download the installers? As someone who keeps their installers for everything, Galaxy included, if I had all of those 100 games (I have Dex and the first two Witchers), it'd be like 101 installable instances of Galaxy. I already hate how Steam bundles the same redistributables countless times in many games over, especially DirectX, which makes me download a couple extra gigabytes in the long run and have space used redundantly.

But well. You already have enough links to Galaxy that matters for the people you're catering to with this decision. What you're missing is a small box on the store page that says "Install Galaxy." Go do that. A new or a noob user will always start there and end there.

Don't go against the people who praised your offline installers for years. Don't kill what made them special. You're supposed to keep that which makes you GOG, not move in the direction of what makes Steam Steam.

I go to the website to download the seperate offline installers, because I don't want to use Galaxy and now I have to untick a box every freaking time to exactly avoid getting Galaxy...

Yeah... how about skipping the PR speak about "helping new users" (because apparently they are all to stupid to find the huge Galaxy button littered everywhere) and just admitting that you want everyone to use your client and are now using the sneaky ways like so many installers that are trying to give the costumer stuff they never wanted.

Maybe they are deluding themselves and think they can compete with Steam? Anyway, this certainly seems to pave the way for a future with a mandatory client which brings them almost down to the same level as Steam.
So they will alienate their existing user base in favor of the user base that is on Steam who will switch to GOG because....? That makes no sense at all.
It's not been that long since I finally registered here (not a fan of digital) but I own 342 games as of today. Needless to say, if GOG becomes mandatory for non-multiplayer-only games, I won't ever buy anything here ever again.

I don't want to use Galaxy. I don't need Galaxy. There is not a single feature of Galaxy that makes it attractive in my eyes. And now, not only will I be forced to download Galaxy bundled with every installer (data redundancy and a horrible waste of space) but I will have to express that opinion every time I install a game.

And sorry, I only give a chance to programs I decide to install myself, not the ones that are counting on my mistake not to disable them during installation.

By the way, GOG installers already store some information in the registry (like the default install path). So why not just have the information WantGalaxy = HellNo stored in there as well? That would take care of only having to click this thing once.

Come on, Fables, are you seriously suggesting that clicking a tick-box is too complicated for a new user to understand? Because if GOG seriously believes that, then how does GOG think that particular customer is even going to find the bloody stand-alone installer in the first place? It boggles the mind that anyone could post what you did and think it's going to be accepted as reasonable.

In short: Downloading Galaxy is not mandatory anymore, people with a thousand games on their backups will soon have Galaxy a thousand times downloaded and stored if they want to keep their versions more or less current.
If they forget to uncheck it, they'll also have it automatically istalled.

Great idea!
Well, I guess that'll be the straw that broke the camels back for the last of the old customers.

While I tend to agree downloading during install then unpacking would better, not everyone has internet when they install a standalone installer and GOG is probably including it for those users..
What purely offline features does Galaxy offer? It can't update, buy new games, handle achievements, or do cloud saving without an internet connection. Each game installer already gives a little icon for starting the game, and a simple folder can keep all those icons in one place. I guess Galaxy could track how long a game has been played?

Also, adding it to each installer multiples the amount of data saved. I don't need 200+ instances of the Galaxy installer on my hard drive.
