Today tried to access jim sterling site, i know some people don't inherently like him, and sometimes he act a little too childish, but he is usually serious enough in his reviews and tolerable enough top look at his channel from time to time

Well, he got an early version of No Man Sky from the developer and after an decently accurate analysis he gave the game a 5/10

Both his you tube channel and main site has then been attacked repeatedly and forced to temporarily shut down

Here the review thanks to webchace:

https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.thejimquisition.com%2Fno-mans-sky-review%2F

While i cannot give a score to a gem without testing it personally, his review seems in depth enough to give a good preview of the game, and the results are quite......weak

Considering how much both sony and the developer of this game has gone to significant length to shut down ANY real preview this game had, this assault to the site just after the review release is suspicious

Now, i am sure that some people will like this game, and some may either not like jim sterling or his review, but does anyone else think that this is a deliberate move? Preventing any possible negative feedback for the game to prevent harming sales?

After all, the news of someone that manage to get a copy of this game early was left alone AFTER he said the game was good, and delivered on it's promise, i wonder what would have happened if he would have said it's bad, or just mediocre

Constrictive opinions?
My constrictive opinion is that you should not post things like this. I'll constrict you if you do so.

My, on the other hand, constructive opinion is that I don't think that such reviews, despite of score given, could affect in a real way the built-up expectation for No Man's Sky at this point.

But the timing and circumstances really give something to think about.
Do we have proof of Sony's / Dev Studio's involvement? Its being censored (ie. Jim's criticism) but we can't throw the blame on anyone without proof. Even more so in this case considering the game garnered a horde of rabid fans before release who attest to the unreleased game's quality unquestioningly.

I'm also cynically happy someone got this offended at something.
As far as I understand, this game is really hard to review, because it relies a lot on affect, patience and expectations management. I read a few user's post here and there that really illustrate how this experience can be polarizing.
I said suspicious, never said it's sony or the developer that did that

I said how curious it is that a game so hyped, a game that was keep under wrap so much finally get some sort of official review, and yes official because he got the code from the developer/sony, as it first bad review and suddenly the whole channel of jim sterling get pretty much shutted down

His site and channel has been attacked many times, but this is the first time such massive and coordinated attack that even cloudflare protection could not mitigate, affected his channel so much

It's curious, given the obvious interest in keeping this game pre-orders intact, that this happened

Consider timing, the review was released 4/5 hours ago by now, the channel was under attack barely 1 hour after, and after another hour was shut down. I know for certain that organizing such kind of attack is not a 5 minutes job, you had to prepare, and preparation take hours at least, days depending on the size, and this seems a deliberate move given the timing

That's want i would like an opinion about

I really doubt its censorship.

I've learned 2 things in my time on the internet since Al Gore invented it back in the nineties*.

1. There are a lot of assholes out there. Plenty of good folk too mind you, but it gives the assholes a place to congregate and join up and form super assholes.

2. As much as I enjoy Sterling myself, he does seem to piss people off.

Combine those two things?... and you get a bunch of assholes that attack his site. I doubt Sony or the no mans sky dev have anything to do with this. (Then again, the last two times I posted things along the lines of "I doubt" or "I don't think..." on this site.. I was proven wrong shortly thereafter XD. Most recently with the Metroid 2 remake.)

*This may or may not have been how it happened. I still contest that I actually invented the internet via time travel, but no one believes me.

Edit: I love typos... and they love me.

From ''attacks'' I'm guessing you mean DDoS on his site and copyright abuse on youtube. His channel and video on the thing are up on youtube. His site is indeed down for me currently.

I strongly disconnect this from Sony and the devs since DDoS isn't a corporate tool and the youtube video and channel are up. An official attempt at silencing would include takedown notices for the articles and copyright strike for the video / channel. So facts, pending, I don't think its Sony or the studio.
It's almost certainly just a crazy fan of the game. Remember this game has fans so crazy that they sent death threats to the developer for delaying it.

Yeah, it eventually reaches a kind of critical mass until it implodes into an internet black hole of assholery which swallows all reason and from which logic cannot escape.

Sending a DMCA to the review would have been a REALLY stupid idea, so underhanded method is the only real solution

Originally i couldn't access his review video either, now work fine for me

Also the death threat seems more a single person craziness then the norm for the fan of this game, but i could be wrong on this

Supposedly it's too late, the review already started circulating around, despite the attempt to shutting it off,
i still think the timing is suspicious, but suppose at this point the only sane thing to do would be getting the popcorn and watch the ground getting salted like no tomorrow
On day 1 2 players were on the same spot at the same time. They couldn't see eachother.
Weird as it was said that it was partly single and partly multiplayer and people could come across other players.

Must be, anyone not crazy would immediately realise that such an attack would generate far more interest in that review than it would have without.

Edit: Man this game world must be REALLY dead, he describes Elder Scrolls game worlds as vivid and lively! LOL

low rated
i knew that game is peace of sheet even when i saw screenshits. that's why i'm not so hyped up about new games
I find myself agreeing with ciomalau, the game flagged up heavily when they put it to pre-order with 6 months still to release.

Still, they've got their money now. Reviews from what I can see are going "Day 1: Wow, bit of grind, but looks nice", "Day 2: Ok, kind of need something more now". I'm guessing by day 4 we're going to be seeing some fairly negative stuff. Hopefully this will be one of the major lessons against pre-orders.
