More crimes! Gregg still rulz ok.

The soulful narrative-driven adventure Night in the Woods just became even more delightful and content-heavy. If you haven't visited Possum Springs yet, first of all it's never too late and second of all, what's wrong with you?

Weird Autumn Edition comes as a free update to all owners and it brings a whole bunch of cool, creepy and downright criminal additions that are worth experiencing even you already beat the game once. Besides, weren't you always curious to see what adventures the rest of the gang could get you into? Of course you were.

So here's what's new:
- New nighttime activities, lovingly known as "crimes"
- The Lost Constellation and Longest Night minisodes now accessible through the Extras on the main menu
- More weird happenings to keep you on your toes.

The stars are aligned. The cosmos beckons. The time is right to go spend another Night in the Woods.

maladr0Id: For what it's worth, NITW is easily my GOTY. If you enjoy good writing and quirky but shockingly relatable characters, you can hardly do better than this.

Zoidberg: What if you don't really like point n click/adventure games? :p
Then I weep for you. WEEP.

NITW is not really point & click, of course, but it does put story first.

Can you still play the original version of the game without all of the new features?

Oh? Ok then I'll pass I guess. This was a real question. My curiosity was tickled by this game but if I won't even like it...

Thought you were joking but like I said, NITW doesn't play like a traditional point & click. It's a story-driven game with platforming controls (but without the challenge) and a few mini-games thrown in for good measure. So everything hinges on whether you enjoy its narrative or not, don't expect to be swept away by the gameplay.

I didn't find an option to play the vanilla version after the update, but the two minisodes are actually kept separate, accessible through Extras on the main menu.
Could anyone tell me if the Guitar Hero style minigame is, um, hard or annoying?

Zoidberg: What if you don't really like point n click/adventure games? :p
It depends on what it is about point&click games that you don't like. NITW isn't a point&click and has a lot of mini-games and moving around town that add variety to what you're doing, but you'll still be playing it for the story.

They're not hard because you don't need to beat them, but you'll get different dialogue depending on whether you suck or rock.

maladr0Id: You might get your wish yet... The Winter Sale is long and full of discounts ;)
avatar
MarkoH01: That sounds very promising to me ... and you are right - maybe my wish will still be granted during the sale.
I think the game already was discounted during one of the last sales, but if I'm not mistaken only for 15% at max or something like that (while it was cheaper somewhere else). I don't expect the discount to be much better this time, if there is any. Then again, they added new content without raising the base price, I guess that's something!

maladr0Id: You might get your wish yet... The Winter Sale is long and full of discounts ;)
Regardless of how long the Winter Sale is, to me it only starts once all discounts have been revealed. ;P

New offers being added bit by bit - that only makes sense to me if they're time-limited and prominently displayed on the front page. Lots of items in the catalogue being discounted without all of them showing on the front page, new ones being added without a reliable way to see a complete list of all of them sorted by date of addition or something, notifications about new wishlist titles being discounted without the wishlist being able to single them out - all of that seems rather confusing to me and not worth checking the site (or my wishlist) every day ...

CharlesGrey: For what it's worth, I think the price is reasonable, as it's a well polished and unique game. I actually prefer this approach of low to medium base prices and rare discounts ( Night in the Woods, Stardew Valley, Shovel Knight etc. ), instead of the bloated base prices most AAA publishers use, only to heavily discount their games every other month.
I guess it is reasonable, if you find the game is to your liking. The problem is that you can only know whether it was worth it or not, once you've (over/under)paid for it. ;) (And the competition is huge; can't buy every game at full price just because it *might* be good.)

MarkoH01: Here I am waiting for this game to finally get a discount. I was hoping this could be the case when the new version arrives at GOG ... hey, it's even winter sale but no ... still the same price. Anyway, nice to see it arriving here on GOG :)

Already own it as I was a backer, but it's never had a sale here, whereas it's been on sale on Steam at least once, maybe twice. So it would be nice to get a sale here to encourage more people to check it out! Plus I might buy another copy as a gift.

Any chance the game description can be updated to reflect the additional content added in the Weird Autumn edition? Only the game title has changed. There's even a new trailer for this edition out there!

The value of a game is rather subjective, of course, due to varying factors such as available budget for gaming, genre preferences and gaming habits. But objectively it can be said that Night in the Woods is a well crafted, refreshingly different game, with great world building and memorable characters. Don't know how much mainstream appeal it has, due to its minimalistic gameplay. I guess it's one of those cases where a refund policy like on Steam would come in handy, or some old fashioned demos. Then again, simply watching a gameplay video should be enough to get a good idea what to expect.

Mmh, interesting, thanks for your input!
I've almost never played a game the second time (except for Doom/Quake and the like), but this update is tempting me to break the habit.
Oh, if only they'd enhance the ending it'd make a brilliant game. As it stands now the game is really good but the ending feels rushed...

If you use the keyboard for that part, it's not really that hard. You don't have to succed in it anyway, if you mess it up your friends will just say that you are rusty.

It's on sale on Steam and itch.io, to celebrate Longest Night. Still not on sale here - what gives? I'd like to gift a copy to a friend or two.
It is on sale here, for the record.
We have someone asking if there's an end date for the sale:
