227: Not just what he did, but the fact that he openly talked about sexually assaulting someone years earlier (which is why this allegation seems especially plausible)...
So I read this a few times now because I have never heard of this dude or this story... and according to his account (which I'm not saying is accurate or true) the girl started the inappropriate contact and he escalated it I guess because of the signals he thought she was sending him. He also claims she continued to talk to him and laughed about the situation later on in the night. I can only speak for myself, but I would not be talking to someone again if I felt they assaulted me (sexually or otherwise).

Truthfully I'm of the mind that everyone should be keeping their hands to themselves regardless of their sex until someone tells you they actually want to initiate contact or at least until you have built a relationship with that person and can determine what they may be feeling something towards you. Otherwise you are just asking for trouble. But drunk people in clubs hardly ever equals wise decisions.

If his account is true (and again not saying it is), I can't say the girl didn't also act inappropriately. If it isn't, then yea sounds like he just randomly sexually assaulted some girl. IMO again this is one of those situations without enough context or the other person telling their side of the story really.

Never really posted there, since I heard about it after its so called heyday, when industry figures posted scoops and random people leaked information. Didn't really feel like I wanted to post there either after hearing about their biased moderation and covering up and helping their pervy mods.

So I don't really think too much of it going down, especially considering they seem to have had the habit of throwing tantrums about random bullshit only their high IQ species could understand the importance of.

But drunkenness isn't a shield against bad behavior, and even if it was an excuse of sorts, it could be applied just as easily to her continuing to engage him. Calling it sexual assault may admittedly be inaccurate on my part since I've never needed to look up the specifics of the term, but it's inexcusable regardless of what it's technically called, and the fact that no one knocked his teeth out makes me lose a little faith in humanity.

But I'm with you on the "keep your hands to yourself" thing. That's really my biggest problem with it. No matter how she was acting, he decided to grab her inappropriately in response. That's really not something decent people do, and I think the fact that he instinctively went there speaks to his character. Loudly.

BKGaming: "When you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.” which does imply possible consent. People act like groupies who throw themselves at you don't exist when you are wealthy and powerful. They do.
At least quote the whole thing when making this point:

I better use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her. You know I'm automatically attracted to beautiful—I just start kissing them. It's like a magnet. Just kiss. I don't even wait. And when you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.

Grab 'em by the pussy. You can do anything
There is not a hint of consent in there, and that's exactly what he's talking about with his "they let you do it" quote. If you should've gotten anything from the Weinstein scandal it's that men in power have far too much leverage in situations like this to just assume consent, and to dismiss all his accusers of simply being golddiggers and groupies is to dismiss a very real abuse of power. Why do you think "the casting couch" is an actual term?

Let's not forget that he also bragged about walking into the dressing room for pageants he was the owner of (These pageants had girls as young as 15 participating):

“Well, what you could also say is that, as the owner of the pageant, it’s your obligation to do that,” Trump said, before discussing how he got away with going backstage when the contestants were naked.

“Well, I’ll tell you the funniest is that before a show, I’ll go backstage and everyone’s getting dressed, and everything else, and you know, no men are anywhere, and I’m allowed to go in because I’m the owner of the pageant and therefore I’m inspecting it,” Trump said. “You know, I’m inspecting because I want to make sure that everything is good.”

“You know, the dresses. ‘Is everyone okay?’ You know, they’re standing there with no clothes. ‘Is everybody okay?’ And you see these incredible looking women, and so, I sort of get away with things like that. But no, I’ve been very good,” he added.

In that part he was talking hypothetically about what he does with women in general. When he says "they let you do it" could imply that because he is a star, women don't stop his advances (they may even reciprocate to them). How much of this is true and how much of it is boasting between two men in a private conversation is another matter.

Context does matter, and you are reading far into something you can't possibly know.

He only made reference to one actual women that he actually tried hitting on and she turned him down:

No, no, Nancy. No, this was [unintelligible] — and I moved on her very heavily. In fact, I took her out furniture shopping.

She wanted to get some furniture. I said, “I’ll show you where they have some nice furniture.” I took her out furniture —
I moved on her like a bitch. But I couldn’t get there. And she was married.

And I don't disagree... but it a far cry from claiming he admitted to assaulting someone and having that person confirm said assault compared to talking about women in general which may or may not be true.

If he had said "I just started kissing xyz [enter name], I didn't even wait." and xyz confirmed he began kissing her without asking and she didn't reciprocate to it, then yea I would agree with you 100%. There would be no doubt about it at that point.

That not what I said... at all. I basically said we shouldn't fail to acknowledge these types of women (or even men) exist when you are a celebrity or come from power/wealth.That is not a something I claimed all women are or his accusers.

I actually said both the accuser and the person being accused should come under equal scrutiny. I never said we should dismiss his accusers, I just found certain circumstances surrounding it curious and worth asking questions.

I also said I would rather have some actual evidence and more than he said she said before condemning someone, anyone (Trump or not). I would not put it past Trump, who arguably has a big ego to boast about things (like in the tape) talking out of his ass which a lot of men do when around a group of other men. It would not be the first time I've seen that.

And as someone who knows of an actual case where a man was falsely accused of such a crime, and then it came out it was all a big lie... I tend to come down on the side of innocent until proven guilty in these cases, which is how we do things here (or at-least that is how it is suppose to be).

Creepy sure, inappropriate sure... doesn't actually prove he assaulted anyone (sexually or otherwise). This was also on Howard Stern where you are kind of expected to talk about stuff like this and objectify women also.

Again by no means defending what he said or his actions... I just don't agree what he said proves he ever sexually assaulted anyone either.

llamas: I feel like I need to come in here and post some kind words about NeoGAF. In my opinio, it is by far the best forum I have found on the internet. I'm not much of a poster there, more of a lurker, but I found the discussions there very informative and intelligent and the reactions to news very entertaining. I thought they did an amazing job with the moderation since I never came across posts where people were attacking each other and when I would spen time in the off-topic section, I found people's opinions very insightful, even when I disagreed with them and very civilized and respectful. It was one of the few non-toxic communities I've seen on the web, and I wish that there existed forums of that calibre for topics other than video games. Granted I haven't been to many different sites, but reddit for example is a far inferior alternative in terms of format and quality of posts.
I wouldn't exactly say the discussions were intelligent. As others have said, it was mostly an echo-chamber and if you disagreed with the echo and voiced it, you got removed. Unfortunately, ModBot was a thing, so you weren't able to pinpoint the bad apple(s) in the moderation staff.
Apart from that though, there were always good and interesting threads about topics such as PC98, guides for retro-gaming or just general niche games. It also had really worthwhile community members such as Durante, which was mentioned earlier. Another plus was the forum which looked good and worked.
Also, despite the downsides and the many annoyances, it was definitely a better place than reddit or 4chan or whatever.

morolf: An "elitist" gaming site sounds pretty ridiculous anyway...
The line is that they want to attract game devs and industry insiders to the forum, so they have ultra-strict moderation which can get you banned for minor infractions. The site bred lots of insufferable know-it-all asshole users. Also the site was known for being ultra-liberal (in the American sense) and any comment which could be perceived as sexist/racist/transphobic/whatever-ist would get a perma ban, which makes it all the more hilarious that the admin of the site ended up as a sexual harrasser.

Also the idea that the devs will only come to your forum if the entire place is completely sanitized is BS really, RPGCodex has practically zero moderation and has crazy ppl everywhere and they still get devs posting and the site has even run official fundraisers for various kickstarters.

Hopefully GoG won't allow some of its users to push the forum into the dark places that other forum went.

It also says a lot about some of their users who turned a blind eye so long as they got their scoops .

Honestly, the internet is not some bracketed off area. The only thing that's kept it reasonable here is population. If this forum ever grows to the size the other big ones do it's not going to be some special subgroup of people, it's going to have a ton of everything, including the dregs
So I was reading Kotaku's article https://kotaku.com/neogaf-goes-dark-after-sexual-misconduct-allegation-aga-1819755151 and I came across this section:

In a phone conversation with Kotaku, Leupp said that even after the alleged shower incident, she’d continued her friendship and even had a brief physical relationship with Malka until they had a falling out at E3 2015.

Frankly, I'm very confused at her subsequent actions after the alleged shower incident. Now before I get downvoted into oblivion for victim-blaming or some other reason, I've got to ask if this is normal behavior after an attempted sexual assault?

I'm not trying to imply anything. I just want to know if this is normal behavior to still have personal and professional relationships with someone who tried to sexual abuse you. I know I wouldn't stand for that. Also, I have no idea who the dude or the woman is. And NeoGAF? Never visited that forum before.
At this stage this should just go to court. No point making it public unless you're going to do the right thing

It's certainly possible to forgive someone for inapropriate behaviour. That doesn't mean that behavior was not still inapropriate, and 'succeeding' (who knows how long after) does not excuse that

RPGCodex...I think I've read there about Age of Decadence, and its developers participated in discussions...interesting that apparently they're not the only ones.
This Neogaf site sounds really retarded tbh, never read it but I doubt it's much of a loss. Can't stand US "liberalism", there's arguably too much of it on Gog too.
Good riddance to bad rubbish. Only issue I see is that the SJWs will bring their filth elsewhere now that their "safe space" is gone.
