Tv series and a game tie-in. I don't know what to think about. If done properly, it could be a good thing.
I love Myst, but this sounds strange... but since one can't say what the project will be like I'll not judge it yet and wait and see, perhaps something good will come out of it.
And there I thought, we would be seeing yet another version of Myst called RealMyst (For Real this time!) Masterpiece Edition.

Doubtful. Being a TV show means they'll miss the mark entirely by adding a completely unnecessary love triangle and lots of explosions.
I'm also confused about why they'd make it a TV show. When I saw the thread title I got excited thinking that Myst III and IV were finally going to come to GOG. I know it's probably a licensing issue, but I find it really weird that we can have Myst, Riven, Myst V and even URU but III and IV are missing. I really like those too, and considering how rare they are I'm afraid to damage my discs now so I'd feel better buying them again on GOG and just playing the digital version.
There have been real-world puzzles done with relation to a couple of the Myst games (hints hidden in various locations and whatnot), it'll be interesting to see if this "trans-media" thing will reveal hints and pieces for some web-based puzzle.

Regardless, I'm curious to see the results of this endeavour.

Yeah, it's a licensing issue. Myst III and IV are owned by Ubisoft and Cyan had little to no involvement in their creation, while the brand and the rest of the games and media are owned by Cyan.

The rights are the problem alright, as both of them lie in Ubisoft's hands.

Oh, that's annoying. There are other Ubisoft games on GOG though, so I wonder why Ubisoft wouldn't be willing to put Myst III and IV here too (especially since the rest of the series is already here).

I was thinking of the PC versions. I haven't seen them in stores at all since around the time that Myst IV was still new. I remember checking on Amazon in the past and not finding them there either (or only available for hundreds of dollars) so I thought they were rare. It looks like there are cheaper versions available right now though, so maybe it was just a fluke when I checked last time.

It doesn't really matter if Ubisoft is here. The games aren't even on Steam, so more than likely, neither of the two parties find it worthwhile to come to an agreement.

Depends on whether you are looking for it used or new. It's easy to find a cheap used copy on Amazon.co.uk. New copies are kinda expensive (over £15), but nowhere near the 100s.

Yeah, I guess. What would hold it back though? Ubisoft and Cyan not agreeing on how to split the profits from selling the game? I can't think of any other reason they wouldn't throw the games up there and see what extra money they can get from it.

I was specifically looking for the DVD versions, and I do remember them being really expensive new. Now it looks like they are available used fairly cheap and the new price has dropped too :D For example I looked up the version of the game that I already have, which is the DVD special edition of Myst IV that also contains Myst III on DVD, and it's $70 new or $30 used (I really remember that being around $200 last time I checked for it). And then other versions of the games are a lot cheaper, in the $10 range used, but they're probably on CD.
Great, now I can feel like a total idiot on a whole other level! :P
