We’d like to inform you that, upon the publisher's request, METAL GEAR SOLID 2 will be temporarily delisted from our catalog on November 15th, 2021, at 8AM UTC. Apologies for the short notice.

For everyone who purchased the title prior to delisting, it will remain in their GOG library.

MadalinStroe: Other than wishful thinking, a link or some proof would be helpful.

EDIT: This is what google turned out for me: https://www.techtimes.com/articles/277981/20220713/konami-brings-back-metal-gear-games-coming-stores-35th-anniversary.htm

No clear mention as to what will be returning. Most likely it will be Metal Gear Solid 5, since it was removed on consoles(Xbox 360 & PS3), but other than that... we appear to be in the "wishful thinking" situation.

Konami pulled the plug on the last game of the series, "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain," last year, and the company effectively removed it from all consoles and platforms for the world. It ceased to exist on the Xbox, PlayStation, and the PC platform, including its online features and DLCs. The game vanished from the platforms and it had a massive effect on the industry.
LOL. Who the hell writes this crap? If they googled "Metal Gear removed", Google would instantly tell them it was Metal Gear Solid 2+3. Metal Gear Solid 5 was never removed. At worst, multiplayer was disabled for the PS3 version last year.

Probably it will never come back. It's kind of late to announce something mid-year for the 35th aniverssary as well. It's a mess because for a couple of little videos the whole game stops selling from digital stores. At least with San Andreas they changed the music for modern releases. Wonder if they are goig to do something similar.

These guys just try to churn out content for clicks.

Yeah, it was 2 and 3 that were removed for the licensing issue and likely those that will come back. 5 is still on the market and multiplayer was only shut down for PS3. You can still do FOB missions on PS4 iirc.
I'd much rather have a new "HD collection" of the series that comes to PC than this janky old PC port back, honestly. Like how the Halo collection finally brought the missing games to PC.

Why can't we be greedy and have both?

I don't like games getting delisted in full - just look at how GTA Definitive Edition Trilogy turned out. Trying to erase history is silly, especially when Classic versions are great.

At worst - old PC versions of MGS1 and MGS2 should also ship w/ a MGS HD Collection.

Any update on this?
any news on this at all?
Steam and consoles are getting the MGS Master Collection vol.1 later this year (24th Oct.), I wonder how it will affect the potential re-release of MGS2 Substance on GOG, or other MG/MGS games for that matter.

The collection looks good to me with a lot of bonuses included, so it seems it's not some lazy repack just to throw us a bone. There is also hope for Vol.2 having Twin Snakes and other goodies in the future.

Good catch, I could see this making its way to gog, would definitely be more than a pleasant surprise. :)

And though I'm not a fan of the series (never got to play the PS1 games), should there be a gog release,I'll buy the collection so Konami sees there's some money to be made here.
I'm more pessimistic. I could see MGS1 getting removed from the store in the not too far future to push people to buy the MGS Master Collection instead. It'd certainly be nice if we could at least get the original MGS2 Substance returned, but I'm pretty doubtful.

That said, with Konami still releasing stuff here (Contra Collection a few weeks back), I could see Castlevania Anniversary Collection showing up also in the not too far future.

I'd love to see the new MGS Master Collection Volume 1 hit GOG w/ all of the cool extras.

I'd rather have it DRM-FREE and on GOG than Steam.

Inquiring minds want to know: Is MGS2 eventually going to be re-instated on GOG?
