DarkoD13: That does seem a bit contradictory though.

drealmer7: I think I see your issue. To clarify:

if we (as individuals) knew the answer to the question, we could have it in our heads and use it to speculate, internally - that is good speculation about the roles at this point, to ourselves - it would be okay that we knew that others knew the answer (but only if we all did, if we knew that only JMich knew the answer, that would not be good.)

I should have said "Discussing our role-speculation at this point is not a good idea, keep it inside."

trentonlf: Any particular reason you are trying to single out me and JMich? It's less than 24 hours since the game officially started and on a weekend. I'm sorry if I have other things to do and can't post every few hours to satisfy your desire of gabbing. Point of fact it is rare that I am inactive, and after Day 1 JMich gets more involved when there is actual info to go on. I don't appreciate the shade, and yes singling out me and JMich for possible lurking is shade when the game has only started.

My Darko vote was in jest, but shade casting already I find scummy.

drealmer7: It was a pre-emptive message, not intended to push you at all just yet. That is why I said "I know it is saturday and game just started" - maybe I should have waited and not said anything and only actually said something if an issue arose, I suppose that could have been even more civil than the "civil message" I tried to express, because obviously I upset you a bit and I definitely didn't mean to!

I have to ask (and others should ask themselves) if that is faked ire, because I did think I made it clear.

And I singled out you and JMich because of the group here, I know of the two of you to be more lurky than I like (though not always - I find you often toe the line between just acceptable amount of inputs throughout a Day and not, it depends on the Day, and game, I would say 60% of the time I want more, 30% of the time I make do, and only 10% of the time am I like "yes! that's what I like! more talking from trent!" - it's more severe and different with JMich, but that is why I singled out the two of you) - I don't know the lurk qualities of the others, but it does apply to everyone, certainly.

Let's have fun together this game, eh?! I offer you the bong (it's shaped like a mushroom) with some smurfweed as a peace offering between us.

if I had to lean one way over the other on gogtrial...mmm...I'd say derpy - at first I think I was leaning scummy, but subsequent message has it a bit noobish purity in there

hey look, I think this is going to be a post-merge (unless someone else has posted in the interim)

that feels good to not have to wait to say, I wanted to put it at the end of the message because brasas had been asking, then forgot
There was no ire at all and if you perceive it that way it's on you. All I did was point out how before the game had even gotten beyond one day you are already putting me and JMich in a bad light (implying we are going to lurk) based on your personal opinion of our play style, and that's scummy. As for a bong I have never touched one and have no desire to touch one. If someone wants to get high more power to them, I have no desire to partake.

TOWN ALL THE WAY SIR! I'M IN THE BEST MOOD SIR!

Open(ish) setup is a different ballgame :) and Oakwood was very stressful for a number of non wolfy reasons.

Also, I always at least try to get to know some players I haven't met before while things are slow. You might recall I did engage Stan, Tammy early in Oakwood and was asking Yog to comment on you all. :)

Anyway, derp-scum trial would not be rolefishing in the traditional sense - he might have been setupfishing by overestimating its importance for scum. Derp-town trial reads as per your scenario yes, with the obvious PR caveat exception, which is the only reason I haven't actually voted him and moved out of RVS.

TL:DR I'm so town and you better believe it.

@ Drealmer - feel free to pretend I said intense instead of stressful ;) synonyms are totes smurfy

ROGER SIR!

For the record, I agree, but I almost wish him to be scum... and I'm not putting my hands on the fire for anyone's purity... I even heard they have some operation they can make to reconstruct your purity...

I kind of agree this seems a tad overreacty... both of you seem to be fishing for reactions, but in you Trent it reads a bit more off...

I guess my question is, does it count as OMGUS if there was just shade to kick it off?

Cool, no ire, then we're good as far as I'm concerned. I didn't mean to put you in a bad light, I was trying to be pre-emptive with my lurk-concerns is all. It was meant to be playful and friendly, as I always seem to try and do with you and never can seem to get right. I should have kept it general or not said anything, sorry, really.

You do seem a LITTLE touchy about it, but, we rub I know and so I'ma read the contention as town-trent (as always is the case with me and you) - I just want peace.

the mushroom bong with smurfweed is a play-thing, not real, a symbolic peace-offering is all

you could RP your character to be into it!

there are LOTS of reasons, but I'll keep it basic:

let's say there's 3 scum, the 10th slot was made a traitor

now he knows what you think and can use it to his advantage

Setupfishing, rolefishing, either takes a very special mindset when coming from scum in their very very first post and Trial doesn't really look like the type who would take such a big leap of faith right off the bat, even for the scumteam. I'm sorry for trying to ruin your hopes and dreams of him being scum, though; I mean, just because I don't approve doesn't mean that you can't follow your heart.... I just won't be able to support you in good conscious :(
even that post of yours feels a bit fishy and I'm hesistant to respond

which is why I kept it super basic

and that's about all I'm going to engage with that, if you disagree, fine, continue on your path and see where it gets you

You're missing the possibility that he probably wouldn't even be fully aware of what certain things might constitute fishing or how deep the implications of such fishing could be seen as in order to stop himself before making the post.

It can come from a completely naive place as either alignment noobish. Reading into the single event becomes too much of a slippery slope, best to just let the game go and round out the judgement with further evidence and look for it to be fake-derp or not as you accumulate it.

Except that your argument still doesn't actually make sense; a traitor still have the same problems a 3-man scumteam would have (in that it's far too big), which means that it's actually pretty important that we get something like this out in the open so that people like you aren't running around with wackjob theories in their heads or, if there is a possibility that we're dealing with a 3-man scumteam because GOG's sense of balance is radically different from other sites, then we can prepare for it now as opposed to later.

Right now, you're pretending like there's absolutely no reason whatsoever for town to establish how many anti-town is expected in this game; if this is what you actually believe, then you are a person who tries to uphold rules without understanding why they are even in place; rolefishing has a very loud and a very obvious penalty to town since it exposes town power roles and lets mafia kill them before they have a chance to act. Setup speculation, which is different despite overlapping in another place, is town's weapon just as much as it is mafia's.

If he doesn't understand what he's doing, then the action is null (he's not doing it to gain advantage for scum thus it isn't scummy and he isn't doing it to gain advantage for town thus it isn't townie). The argument that I'm addressing is the chances for him to be scum doing it to gain an advantage for the team; I don't think that is particularly likely because I don't think that new scum players tend to take big risks right out of the gate. I can pretty easily see the perspective from a new town player.

Does that make sense?

I don't know him, but on my homesite I'm someone who plays pretty frequently as an experienced player among newer players; I absolutely agree with you when you say that new players slip completely differently from newer ones, just that I don't think new players tend to slip like this.

So, gentle smurfs, any more opinions on Nacho's Trial?

Brasas: Well, at least we get to know each other a bit more. :) So what did you think of the Oakwood game?
I loved reading it; both the flavour and the interactions. Around the second game day there I had convinced myself I wanted to participate. The game on the third day (particularly the various role claim messages) actually was a bit ... intimidating? ...by how good it was, but eh, I figured the swiftest way to learn is to dive in.

And heh, I'm learning alright! Would be nice if half the conversation wasn't about the big mistake I made with my very first post (it's not nice to hear yourself called naive and realize that it's probably a fair assessment), but on the other hand, since the only people - besides myself - who know for certain that I'm Town are scum, the reactions to me might turn out to be quite telling. (I started keeping some statistical notes, but that's quickly exploding and becoming totally unwieldy... :/ )

24 hours since the game opened now, and nothing yet from Lift or (substantially) from Hunter.

Ah, I was expecting this; I was hoping that I would get the courtesy of you asking me how I was doing, how I was going, how I felt about the Oakwood game first, but I suppose this was inevitable. Is there anything specific that you're driving at?

Nachomamma8: Do you have any opinions about the people who have defended you thus far?
Obviously anyone who has defended me is a noble smurf of the most upstanding sort, with a keen mind capable of making instantaneously correct judgment calls.

Beyond that, I don't yet have any insights. I did notice one thing about someone who isn't defending me, which might form the basis of a vote, but I'll want to see if there's more of that before I'll share it. (Not a big thing, but feel free to ask me about it in a day or two.)

Seems like a bit of an overreach to me, if the Matrix itself is balanced setup then the 10th role wouldn't be something that would tip the balance in side of any particular team, that is my opinion on 10th slot.

On day 1 drealmer always seems a bit weird to me for some reason I can't understand. (Not many games together but still)

Does this comment mean you don't share the opinion of your fellow smurfs about the inadvisability of role/setup speculation?
