I thought it would be great to finally make something like this to keep track of.

So apparently Westwood Studios lost the source code for Blade Runner while moving to their L.A. offices.

SQUARE-ENIX lost the source code to Final Fantasy X/X-2, but reverse engineered the source code off of a disc.

Anyone else have information for other video games?
Well supposedly Sierra lost the source and everything else for Leisure Suit Larry 4. or maybe that's just their excuse for skipping it ;-)

I heard that Al Lowe had sworn never to make LSL 4, and sort of kept his promise. Or maybe that was their excuse for losing it!
I think it would be easier to make a list of games where the source code has not been lost.
Fairly certain I've read plenty of projects where the developer has stated they'd love to release the source so people could make a port, but sadly they've lost/misplaced it. Among them I believe were actually System Shock 2 and the other Dark Engine games.

Just can't recall though. Too bad, it would be nifty with a source port of SS2/Thief with advanced lighting

I remember reading about the original Prince of Persia source code being almost lost, but recovered and released.
I think House of the Dead (first one) and I recall there is something screwy with some of the Silent Hill games(iirc).
WTF are ames of video games? :P

He might mean "names" of video games.

Also, I think Bethesda has lost source code for the first two Elder Scolls games (although I am not completely sure - a source would be appreciated).

I know the source code for the original System Shock is M.I.A.

Lowe's most recent anecdote about it is recounted here. (It's probably even true!)
