spaceseeker19: My son's planet was very icy, but he's left that place a long time ago, and has been advancing through the ship upgrade/trading game. He's really enjoying the space flight controls. We both tried using an Xbox controller for the game and can't STAND it; the mouse and keyboard combination works so much better, for us. We haven't tested whether any of our joysticks will work, but since he's already loving the existing controls, I don't know that we'll get to that.

...

We're all loving this game.
I'm playing with an Xbox-360 controller and actually really like it. I am not a mouse and keyboard gamer though; I prefer controllers for basically any game that supports them. The only issue I'm having is that I've played so many hours of this game over the weekend that my fingers are tired.

No crashes, BTW. Completely stable for me.

I'm about 10 planets in, on my second starship, and a couple of jumps from an Atlas event. Quite a bit of variety in those 10 planets.

The latest one had these huge black rocks shaped kinda like mushrooms. I'm like "I need to climb those". I did get to the top of a huge one, but almost died on failed attempts. Because of the mushroom tops, climbing with the jetpack wasn't easy.

I love it too. I'll probably play at least 100 hours of this game. Biggest time sink since FTL. :-)
Finished the ATLAS quest...not quite impressed by it but since nothing fancy happens, but now the BIG JOURNEY awaits...Time to go to the CORE.

Got me a 43 Slot Ship...and 6Mil. Units...and just when I finished fixing this one a 44 one appears :))

Agnus78: I was all about buying this game but:

1. Reviews are bad for this game, i will wait until game is patched and more content added.
2. Price is ridiculous. I'll wait until it 1/2 of current price.
1. No review is bad for this game unless you are talking about paid game critics on youtube?
2. how is brand new game 60$ expensive? Dying light was what 90$ when it came out on steam?

Tried it...
Not enthused.

It's gameplay is seriously overhyped.

Abandoned ships are always slightly better than what you've got. So you wouldn't have found an abandoned 44 unless you had a 43 already.

Rad ship though. ;-)

1. I tried it and got bored. There is nothing happening except walking and collecting items. Also - on quite nice laptop (Zenbook with GF, 12GB RAM, i5, SSD) and game is running very slowly on minimum details. There is no fun to play like this. And i heard ppl with very fast computers exprience it too.
No paid critics... its a real situation - its unfinished product.

2. For me its 260pln. When games cost usually 130. And i use to buy new games for less than 100.
260 for unfinished game in beta state.

I'll try it once its patched, optimized and with added content.

2. monies.
You are one of the first people that gave reasonable reply...

1. Yup not everyones cup of tea... how is that their fault or gog's or steams or?? I hate racing games... You would never catch me dead playing one ... I also not huge into "timed" elements I like to take my time, yet I am not raging about those games am I?

There is more to walking around... I invade places for technology, fight pirates, learn languages its sand box... it is do what you want.. that is like logging on to minecraft and saying "there is nothing to do but walk around" there is other stuff but it isn't what you enjoy?

2. Money , this shouldn't even be a topic but people keep bringing this up...
60$ is not very much. New York you monthly rent $4,000 that is for a cheap place.
Working at the local fast food people get paid 15$ a hour... 4 hours for lowest paid worker.
$60 is like the price of a decent meal...

You live country where you can not afford it? Than why are you here complaining about it?
Suggest going here to complain about it...

1. You misunderstood me. I'm Eve Online vet. I'm aware that NMS is not MMO but honestly.. Things you listed is just drop in a sea of what someone could do in space and or planets. You can raid structures and steal stuff, harvest some rockz on planets, upgrade weapons. Ok. Thats what i already discoveres. Pirates? Ok.. propably scripted fights and without other ppl its gonna be like good old fights in Frontier - boring like hell after 10 or 100 of them.
Can i build structures? Can i trade? Can i research something?
Atm its look like a SPORE game for me. Cool idea but boring execution.

2. Its not a matter of where i live or how much i earn. I told you how much i need to spend on a new game - its half of money i need to pay for NMS. Its ridiculous especially that NMS is unfinished product, with bad optimization (or not at all) and its just single player game.

Ok, i get your enthusiasm but for me it is like i said. I will buy it once it fixed, optimized to run smoothly and with added content. Its just BORING & OVERPRICED game for me now.

Yes you can trade. As far as fights being scripted, I'm not sure much of anything in this game is scripted. Structures, specifically base building and freighters, are coming in a future patch. Also, you can sort of raid structures in this game and steal stuff as well. There are locked structures that you can blast the door down with your bolt gun, which sets off alarms. Then you have to turn off the alarm and take the items inside. This usually requires a couple of sentinel battles as well, because when you start blasting the door down, the sentinels will attack you.

It runs perfectly fine on both my laptop and my desktop. I don't actually think you need fast hardware for this game. You just need NEW hardware. My desktop is an A10-7860k with an RX 470. That is one of the latest AMD CPUs and one of the latest AMD GPUs. Neither is particularly high end, but they support all the newest standards.

The people complaining about choppiness on fast hardware I think are running 7 (or maybe 8) series and older NVidia cards. Those are fast in certain cases, but they are also getting old (by computer standards).

There should be a patch in the next couple of days to address the SSE and shader cache issues with older hardware.

2. Skyrim is just single player game.. and I too poor for games that is why I play EVE ONLINE FREE
So other words

How is that anyone's problem/fault but yours?
Raging here about a game you do not like shows your true intentions.

i5 4 cores, 16GB, Radeon 290, SSD..
i5 4 cores (mobile), 12GB, GF940, SSD..
i7 4/8cores, 16GB, GTX560, SSD.

On all my PCs above, NML wont run smoothly. I tried various graphic settings, no difference. I cant force this game to run well. And those PCs can run modern games without issues, maybe with lower settings but im able to run them smoothly. NML is horribly optimized.

@Regals
I didnt write anything about Skyrim?
NML is not EveOnline but EO shows how many things should be done. A lot of things to do, perfect optimization.
EveOnline isnt free. I can pay for a game if its worth the money.

real.geizterfahr: I'm afraid that's not how minimum requirements work. Does the 6750M even come with OpenGL 4.5 support? No Man's Sky won't run on anything below that, no matter how good your GPU is.
avatar
phoenix155: I actually don't know. Perhaps they should have considered that when developing the game.
I think they did consider this when they were developing the game. And I think they just decided that their small 15 persons indie team doesn't have the time to make sure that their PS4 port will run on 5 1/2 years old mid-range notebook GPUs. GPUs that don't even get driver support by the manufacturer anymore - for more than one year already!

phoenix155: Thanks for being an asshole, by the way. Great introduction to the GOG community. Dick. There was absolutely no reason for condescension and you poured that on in heaps.
wtf?!? You said your 6750M "more than meets the minimum specs". I just pointed out that it is well below the minimum specs. When you said "But it's running Elite Dangerous!", I told you that minimum requirements don't work like that and that the game needs OpenGL 4.5 to run. Is that "beeing an asshole" and "pouring condescension"? oO

Game looks like shit no thanks i'm PC gamer won't spent 60 euros on bad console port.
Considering asking for my money back. Somebody else said it best ... BORING AND OVERHYPED.

Gameplay is repetitive and very contrived.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_graphics_processing_units#Radeon_HD_6xxxM_Series

The 6750M supports OpenGL 4.4 not 4.5 ...

The gamecard mentions AMD Radeon 7870 as minimun requirement which is ;

1/ not a laptop gpu
2/ next generation in the AMD gpu's history

so your gpu doesn't match the minimum requirements; although it would have been nice to mention more informations about the system requirements :/
