Mr.Mumbles: And people really ought to try it before laying down any money as people have quite divisive opinions on the game. I for one did not get on with its ridiculously slow pace and most awkward combat system.
avatar
tomimt: I'd really recommend people to try it first. While I do like the atmosphere of it, the combat system is just all kinds of bad. In theory, it is a nice idea, but in practice, it feels somewhat clunky and, what is probably worse, gimmicky.
I'm with you on that--absolutely beautiful and immersive RPG let down by a well intentioned but functionally crappy combat system. Swordplay just doesn't translate well to video games unless it's heavily automated.

sasuke12: I really want to buy this game but its gonna be free on Epic game store starting this weekend.
Only the base game, not DLCs. I intend to use it free demo too, but it's entirely possible I'll come back here for royal edition (or to be more precise, base + dlc bundle, buying royal edition doesn't make sense with current pricing).
I think I’m going to try the base game with the Epic Store first since it’ll be given for free, and if I like it, I’ll buy it with the DLCs here :)

I have a question, though : I didn’t receive the newsletter e-mail with the special discount, only the “Items on your wishlist are now discounted!” message. I am subscribed to all the notifications in my settings, and I usually get those kinds of special discount e-mails. Was there any special condition to receive it ?

And yeah, it’s weird that it’s cheaper to buy the base game + the DLCs separately instead of the Royal Edition in this sale

Just guessing, but you don’t own the base game do you, maybe that is it. Can’t remember which version I brought off top of my head, so it’s either owning the base game, or a specific version of the base game. Normally I don’t use them, but in this case I used mine.

This is 99% it. It would be nonsensical to send a discount code for a DLC package to people who don't own the base game needed to play the DLCs.
One of the best games I have played in a long time. Swordplay is harder than it needs to be, but I had alot of fun with the one on one duels.

nightcraw1er.488: Haha, you think that is a problem. Now the sale is up royal dlc is 50% off, £7.49. But, I just had an email, for a super special discount only in the email, a code for royal edition dlc....wait for it...30% off £10.49! FCK me I feel special!

chandra: A small mistake on our part that has been already corrected – don't worry, the discount IS indeed higher in the newsletter ;)
Every single one of the links in the newsletter takes me to the GOG 404 error page.

Tallima: If you want just the base game to try, it'll be free on epic store on the 15th.

XYCat: After giving it 15 hours with my GOG copy, I'd say don't waste your money, friend :D.
Are you implying there is something wrong with the GOG release of the game, or that you just don't like the game itself and it has nothing to do with being the GOG version?

I bought this game on GOG a while ago but never played it all the way through. I have 45 hours of time played and I didn't get super far into the main story.

I can see why it's a divisive game. I myself am not sure how I feel about it.

Some of the earliest scenes in the game, when the story is just starting out, are excellent. But after that, the game seems to fall off into mundane tasks that aren't nearly so interesting (but perhaps I feel this way because I spent a lot of in-game time doing non-story stuff, which is quite boring compared to the story stuff).

I wouldn't say the sword combat is "bad" per say, it's just very complex and takes a while to learn and has a lot of components for which you need to memorize their mechanics, which I can understand why that is alienating to a lot of players.

On the other hand, the system also provides a larger degree of depth to the combat than in other games where the swordplay is more simple to learn & perform.

But definitely there is tradeoff between high depth coming at the expense of low accessibility.

One thing this game does very well is having a fair but realistic system in terms of how you get punished if you get caught committing crimes.

There's no omniscient guards who magically & totally unfairly appear out of nowhere and automatically/telepathically know all the crimes did even if they were not around when you did them, and even if no witnesses at all were around, like is the case in Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.

And you also can't rob everyone blind with no consequences, like is the case in Witcher 3.

On the other hand, everything I just said about Kingdom Come's great crime system is also strongly undermined by the fact that you can't steal other people's horses and then have them become yours & behave as a horse that you actually own would do; this makes the half-baked mechanic for stealing horses in this game (you can't really steal them fully) highly unrealistic and also makes trying to steal a horse become a totally pointless thing that is never worth bothering to do.

As of now (my opinion might be different if I had experienced all of its content) I'd say Kingdom Come is a decent game, but nowhere close to being among the best RPGs of the generation or anything like that.

I searched around my mailbox, and it appears I didn't receive the GOG exclusive discount mail. If anybody has a code for the extra discount, and they're not interested in using it, could you please share the link somewhere? I'm considering getting the Royal DLC Package.

I'll give it a shot via Epic.

No, I'm implying that the game is trash. I mentioned my gog copy to avoid kingdom come fanboy rage about how I either didn't buy the game, or don't even have it on GOG, or I'm harming GOG's profits from it by claiming it's trash or some shit like that.
Wow can't believe it's been two years!

I saw this game in a game mag probably about 1+ years before it released, and LOST MY MIND the day I logged into GoG and saw it as a preorder / coming soon.

Absolutely LOVED the game. The fighting can be dense, but it's extremely nuanced if you "get into it." And it was just amazing starting off as this lost street rat, stealing and herb picking my may to talent and eventually growing into a powerful man at arms, full armor atop my war horse.

Great experience, fun deep and detailed quests and really felt like I was living in this world. I might have to fire it up again sometime.

Just wondering something:
The intro cinematic (after the menu), does it play fullscreen on a 21:9 monitor?

Sort of off-topic: I don't get why so many TV shows these days have a wider aspect ratio than 16:9. (A lot of) movies are first shown in the cinema on 21:9 screens, so that makes sense... but why tv series?

Remember when all games (and monitors) were 4:3? They made intros in 16:9! Do people actually like black bars for no reason? Even when playing those old games nowadays on a 16:9 screen, those intro cinematics don't play full screen because the black bars were 'hard coded'. Modern monitors might be better for games and general PC usage, AFAIK, they still don't have zoom functionality like TVs have.
