Falci: It's going to be called Suicidal Tendencies and you're going to play a guy desperately trying to commit suicide in a world entirely built to keep you alive no matter what.
So a first person Squishy?

Crosmando: It's probably in his personality to make outlandish claims like "No one has ever seen a FPS like this before", instead of something more down to earth like "It's a traditional key-collecting Doom -like" which is what his "fans" want to hear. The same way Peter Molyneux is incapable of making a game and not promising the world beforehand.
I think he lives in his own nostalgia (Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM and Quake). He really wants to create a revolutionary FPS again.

Hey, I didn't know this one, but, yeah, probably. :P

In all seriousness, I think Romero suffers a bit from a case of rock star comeback syndrome. In that everyone wants him to do a new Doom, a new game that causes that same feeling as Doom did back in the day, while he probably wants to try new things and directions and even if he tries to produce a new Doom, most will probably compare his new FPS unfavorably to the Classic. Just like people keep wanting the next Iron Maiden album to be some sort of new Number of the Beast or Powerslave or Fear of the Dark.

"If there's one thing history's taught us besides "don't piss off people named Genghis or put lead in your water pipes," it's that if you're going to make something incredibly good that becomes frighteningly popular, make sure it's the last thing you ever make in your entire life. Because otherwise you get to spend the rest of your creative career struggling under the weight of high expectations and bricks."

Well, I guess it will be an FPS with an ingame real money shop, which you need to buy the weapons for each mission.
A pistol will cost 1.99$, a submachine gun 8.99$ and the BMG (Big Motherfucking Gun) will cost 25.00$. And ammo costs extra, of course!!!

Yeah, good quote. :)
This new FPS gonna rock like Daikatana did. I hope.

Multiplayer will introduce Lifematches, where the objective is to die while keeping everyone else alive. Really challenging stuff.
That sounds awesome, where can I buy a copy?

The gog.com store of Alternate Reality 73B, where Daikatana was the Ultimate Game of Ultimate Destiny and John Romero went on to become Lord Marshal of Reality.
Inb4 failed Kickstarter.
I, for one, have been waiting for him to return to FPS development. It's been a 15 year exile. I think that's enough of a punishment for one disappointing game and one failed PR stunt. Other "legendary" designers have done far worse in recent years and still somehow manage to get money and goodwill from fans. Heck, Daikatana isn't even that bad when you take care of some of its technical issues. Not amazing, but certainly not the worst FPS ever made. At least it had a lot of interesting, innovative ideas. Unlike Quake 2--or anything Id's done since Romero left. If it had released on schedule without all the behind-the-scenes drama to weigh it down (at lot of which was admittedly his fault), it probably WOULD have been amazing.

I doubt it will turn out to be the best FPS ever... but then again, before Daikatana when he said something was going to be the best ever, he was basically right. So who knows. It's not like it would take that much originality to set yourself apart from current shooters -_-

I am a little concerned about his newer interest in MMO experiences, though. Not sure I really have much interest in an MMO/FPS

I dunno, I think he's learned his lesson. The article suggests that he just wants to release it suddenly without any pre-release hype, which would probably be for the best.

Yeah, and I get the impression that's not actually what he wants to make now. I remember watching an interview a few years ago where he was asked what Doom would look like it he were to remake it today, and his answer was basically "Battlefield mixed with World of Warcraft." So yeah... not exactly what oldschool FPS fans would be looking for :P

Azhdar: 'It's not like you would ever look at it and compare it to any other shooter that's out there,’ says Doom creator of additional planned title.

“I don't want to talk about it because it's a really cool idea, it's a unique idea,” he said. “I've never seen a game like it.

“I'm really excited to start making it because it's just a great idea. Instead of just pumping out game after game after game, it's like waiting to come up with something that's really unique, that no-one's seen before, and enables you to make something that you hope will be really amazing. So, we'll see. It's got a pretty cool fiction around it. It's got an interesting story.”

Wait and see. So many people have "amazing" ideas which never happen. Wait until there is something tangible.
maybe it's a game about shooting heroin and other IV drugs?

then clowns attack you and children become zombies and you must kill them, only to later find out you've been killing mannequins and stuffed animals in a toy's r us or a mall?
