'It's not like you would ever look at it and compare it to any other shooter that's out there,’ says Doom creator of additional planned title.

“I don't want to talk about it because it's a really cool idea, it's a unique idea,” he said. “I've never seen a game like it.

“I'm really excited to start making it because it's just a great idea. Instead of just pumping out game after game after game, it's like waiting to come up with something that's really unique, that no-one's seen before, and enables you to make something that you hope will be really amazing. So, we'll see. It's got a pretty cool fiction around it. It's got an interesting story.”

Honestly, I don't think Daikatana made anyone Romero's bitch. Maybe just a slightly annoyed slut.

When I read this article, I imagined Daikatana too. I like his game will be successful, but such rants remind me of Daikatana.

He hasn't shown it to anyone yet, has he? So of course no one's seen it, unless they've managed to secretly spy at his screen as he's been building it and he doesn't know yet (in which case he should probably take a swing at fixing up his security). Will it actually be a unique experience, or will it be similar to a thousand other releases? That's a completely different matter.

It's going to be called Suicidal Tendencies and you're going to play a guy desperately trying to commit suicide in a world entirely built to keep you alive no matter what.

Multiplayer will introduce Lifematches, where the objective is to die while keeping everyone else alive. Really challenging stuff.

Maybe he means that this time... Player is not a shooting guy. But a gun! Imagine yourself being a gun in the game. And computerized vigilante is wielding you. And you, as a gun, can do many many things! Lets say... Jam! Yes, you could jam on your will. Or, or... You could blow up! And thus, damage the vigilante. And then another computerized guy picks you up. Reloads you. You get an orgasm. Because being reloaded gives this nice feeling of rubbing.

Oh, shoot me already, I am totally talking nonsense. What can possibly be new in a shooter game?

It's probably in his personality to make outlandish claims like "No one has ever seen a FPS like this before", instead of something more down to earth like "It's a traditional key-collecting Doom -like" which is what his "fans" want to hear. The same way Peter Molyneux is incapable of making a game and not promising the world beforehand.
Sad to see that even the game industry can un-glue itself from "gaming personas" from yesterday.
No, ain't panning Romero or his work, previous and future, but damn, this helps to shade some talented folks out there, imho.
What if all guns are replaced with slingshots? And missile shooting slingshots? That was not done before
I thought this was going to be some pretend-it's-1999 post with mock excitement over the soon-to-be-finally-released Daikatana. I'm glad it isn't. I'm actually curious what will a 20xx FPS by Romero be like.

Second-person-shooter. Both first-person-shooter and third-person-shooter are done to death already, so let's hope for a game where the camera shows the enemy's viewpoint (or the NPC closest to where the PC is looking/aiming, regardless of whether said NPC is friendly or hostile), not the player character's.
