As for your earlier question as to who is taking care of the victims: the populace has been transferred into tent camps for now. Food, water and basic medical support are being provided by the Civil Defense agency, the Red Cross, and other charitable organizations. The government is allocating funds to cover the initial expenses, and from what I've heard, the EU has said this can be done outside the constraints of the Pact of Stability.

But the real problem of course is funding the reconstruction, and providing mid-term lodging for the evacuees. From what I understand, EU money might be used (via the European Solidarity Fund) but only at request of our government. Not sure if Renzi will do that. Bet he'll probably want to avoid showing 'weakness'.

Yeah, humanitarians somehow always swallow their tongue when the word "funding" is to be uttered. Unless of course it goes to where it usually goes lately. I sincerely wish for the best, though.
