Is there? If yes, then please share with us, why it is better?
That would entirely depend on what you're looking for. ;)
I have decided to give Linux a go after GOG started supporting it. So I installed the latest Mint Cinnamon and I was absolutely horrified by the amount of bloat it installed.

So here I am, new to Linux, playing around with Arch in a VM.

So yeah, for me Arch is better because it doesn't have a lot of stuff pre-installed.

I just installed Linux Mint Cinnamon and it runs kind of slow but maybe that is because my graphics = Intel HD 4000.

Something to kind of replace Windows...

This.

I prefer arch, but then I've never tried Mint.

I don't really like the Ubuntu philosophy of "build it ourselves rather than support existing, similar projects", which is why I quit using Ubuntu. I'm not likely to go to a derivative of Ubuntu, like Mint.
Depends on what you mean by "better" for me, I prefer a rolling distro.

I have a preference for Slax...it may not work with the games too well, but it's a good small liveCD distro...

Now if only i can get the virtual driver for the VM/Virtualbox installed so it runs lightning fast on my computer...

If you are looking a distro to replace Windows you might want to take a look at Zorin OS. http://www.zorin-os.com
Zorin OS is an Ubuntu based Linux version that aims to do just that.
I haven't tried it myself yet, though, so I can't tell you more about this distribution.

In general Linux Mint or any Ubuntu based distro is the way to go if you are new to Linux and want to replace Windows. This is because you won't have to use your Terminal extensively and due to the popularity of Ubuntu and Linux Mint you'll get more programmes working out of the box.

You should take a look at Zorin OS, Kubuntu, Lubuntu (especially if you have low specs), standard Ubuntu.

I hope this was helpful :)
Has to be one of the editions where the publisher provides long-term stability. I am not going to swap out toolchain, kernel, libc, or X.org from under work I am doing. Too much of what gets changed in rolling editions is change for change's sake. Ubuntu "LTS" versions with Unity are as close as I will go to the leading edge; Debian with LXDE or headless; CentOS when I must have an RPM edition.

I would like to like Mint, but Cinnamon is not stable enough, especially with multiple monitors.

Very helpful, thanks.
FreeBSD
How 'bout the original on a PDP-11?
To be honest, I don't know. I'm using Lubuntu (Lightweight Ubuntu Variant) and its pretty good. I've also done an arch install, but I havent booted it up in ages.
It really depends what you use Linux for.
But if Mint is too slow then you could try arch. Theres an fairly in-depth install guide on the wiki.
Best? That's a matter of opinion and desire, dear fellow. I mean there might be someone who would rather be using the first Linux publicly available.

Yeah, Cinnamon relies on the GPU for effects and doing compositing. The HD 4000 is no race horse. The MATE edition is for those who wish a light-weight desktop.

You are right. I suspected this so I deleted the Cinnamon edition and installed the MATE edition recently and the MATE edition runs 100 times faster.
