Today we're rolling out the new notification system on GOG.com. The goal is to keep track of your social activity, deals relevant to you, as well as major announcements we have for you.

The new system allows you to get a notification when there is a new reply to your forum post, when you receive a new chat message or when you get a friend request. If a game you have wishlisted goes on sale, expect to hear about it right away, too.

This new system has been available in the test environment of the Galaxy client for the last three weeks, so we would like to thank all of you who helped test and improve it ahead of its full release.

Please note the new notification system is focused around social notices and offers relevant to you, and won’t show you a overdue list of all updated games you haven’t clicked on yet, not on the website, nor in GOG Galaxy. We’re keeping the previous game installer updates working exactly as they did, so you can check which games got updated in your „Library” view via the „Updated” filter (by My Collection) and the blue dots by the game’s title.

Thank you for rolling this out! As you heard - extensively - it was a great inconvenience doing without it for all these many months. :)

One really strong request though (which I've also voiced in other threads, but since this is the official announcement thread, I'll repeat it once more), please fix the individual notifications to include the href to the post they refer to. Right now they have a lot of very fancy Angular JavaScript shizzle to handle a click and load the correct content, but basic browser functionality enabled by a basic HTML foundation - like middle-clicking a link to open it in a new tab, or drag-and-dropping the link, etc - is broken. And that really hampers usability when you have more than a single notification; the flow of click, wait for load, read, click, wait for load, read is much less userfriendly than the flow of middle-click, middle-click, middle-click, middle-click, ... - switch to next tab which has already loaded, read, switch, read, etc

(edit: got a chat that this was seen and should be fixed "soon".) \o/

It's nice to finally have them back.

I understand omitting overdue notifications from before the new system was implemented, but what about notifications for future updates?
Thank you GOG!
Thank you.
Thanks.

It looks good, it would be nice if the game updates were included though...

So it means the game updates still not working properly.
It never really work for several years.

To be honest they never actually worked, the updates are only triggered manually by the staff... what we really need is a properly automated update system where changes are signalled without human intervention so there is no chance of missing them...

String of notices about messages from weeks ago, already read them, but meh.

They worked? When was this...?
Thanks, really appreciate this.
I'll just repeat my comment from the other thread...

How come clicking the reply notification only takes me to the very last reply when there are more than one within the same thread?

Surely, it would make a lot more sense to take me to the first one* and then allow me to skip forward one by one.

*As is the case when clicking notifications in the 'Forum replies' section.

Seriously, when you're posting news of this nature, you really ought to make it a proper news post so the forum thread shows up blue. This thread is not very visible, and easily overlooked.

And maybe you'd want them to make sure everyone knows about the classic installers too? Pfft. Crazy talk.
Finally! At least you did a good job with it - it's nearly worth the wait - nearly.
