Jupiter Hell is now available DRM-free. Get it 10% off until August 8th, 5pm UTC.

Jupiter Hell is a turn-based shooter from the depths of cosmic hell, built on a classic roguelike framework updated with modern 3d graphics. Rip and tear zombies, demons, and heavy metal monstrosities with chainguns and chainsaws. Like chess... with shotguns!

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.
Nice thing with the REAL Doomguy, Flynn Taggart mentioned on all these screenshots. ;p

Also since it's from the author of DoomRL this title is safe bet to invest even if you don't like roguelike, how much it evolved from simple ASCII art and sprites/tiles is impressive...

DadJoke007: Nice, I'll definitely pick this up at some point. DoomRL was fantastic, and since this is the spiritual successor I have high expectations.

For anyone curious about what preceded Jupiter Hell, DoomRL can be downloaded for free for both Windows and Linux:

Is it a spiritual successor? I thought they were forced to change the name of the project when Doom 2016 came out. Isn't Jupiter Hell what the original DoomRL project would have ended up evolving into, eventually?

Great to see it here! These developers deserve to be rewarded for their hard work.

EDIT: Well... the developers themselves claim that it is a spiritual successor, so that settles that.

Any chance this will get achievements and stay updated like the Steam version? I'm definitely interested but that part makes me a little worried.
3D roguelike for 8Gb memory? Ha-ha, it's not even funny.

Leave roguelike genre alone and don't spoil it with your 'quality of life' improvements, absolutely out-of-place 3D graphics and all other 'signs of progress'.

Not sure is serious. I think it's great that roguelikes evolve and try something new while still staying true to the core concept. Tales of Maj'Eyal, for example, has tons of QoL-improvements and is downright fantastic.
The trailer uses language that many people will complain is "too edgy!". To me, it just made me want to buy the game ASAP to support such a company! I've had enough of the Marvelized Disneyfied malaise spreading across society. Also, it doesn't hurt that I get some shades of Fallout in terms of the style, even though I know they are different types of games. Easy wishlisted.

Yes, GoG is plugged into the same development pipeline as Steam so you will receive same builds at the same time. Yes we will add support for achievements for GoG as well. Stay tuned for the next versions :)

You're one of the devs?
You should ask GOG for Dev-status in the forum...gives you a nice orange text that makes you and your comments stand out more.

One question: I'm a backer. Can I get a key for the GOG In development version instead of the Steam Early Acess version that you sent to everyone? I don't like Steam very much and would really prefer to have the game here.

This guy gets it; honestly any RL that requires more than DOS 6, 8Mb of memory and needs installing on a harddrive rather than reading off a 5.25" disk is utter garbage.

If you are interested in current state of the renderer performance and it's requirements:

We have Shaders Quality options:
2 - full pipeline with all fxs enabled
1 - most time consuming fxs disabled ( SSR, Emissive blur, Ambient Occlusion, Volumetric Lighting )
0 - simplified PBR.

In addition you can try limiting the number of active lights ( lights that casts dynamic shadows ).

In terms of the renderer performance this is still work in progress we just finished rewriting the renderer to Vulkan so this is just the beginning. Please remember that this is Early Access and we didn't implement most of the optimisations that have on our roadmap :) There is plenty of room for better performance in terms of the rendering pipeline. So stay tuned for the updates.

In addition to "high requirements" remember that we plan to add procedural destruction and this is the part when the dynamic lighting system will shine :)
