In the name of the queen.

Empires of the Undergrowth is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.
These ants are truly marvelous creatures. Operating as an astonishingly coordinated hive-mind, they are able to build giant colonies, assimilate certain traits of other ants species, and overpower larger insects to protect their nest. As the manager of an industrious formicarium, you will orchestrate all these activities in real-time, watching your colony thrive with each successful mission.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.
Got confirmation from the Devs that this will have an Arachnaphobe setting, so you can turn the very realistic looking spiders into (currently) spiders wearing hats, but since that's not enough to make people like me stop averting their eyes when a creepy must-kill (nuke it from orbit) is on the screen, the dev is considering other options (maybe just turn them into nothing but hats). This makes me very happy.

tinyE: Spiders would be boring. Ants are always working so there is always something to do. With a spider, once the web is done, that's it, you just sit there. [...]

HeartsAndRainbows: Ohhh, poor spiders... Harvestmen don't build webs. They go out into the world to hunt, have adventures, get drunk, learn new songs and woo other spiders. ;D
Also, Daddy-Long-Legs (what you call Harvestmen) aren't actually spiders, so they're not gross.

[edit] They're not AS gross. The ones that live up here in Minnesota and the ones I grew up with in Detroit are kinda cool looking, but after looking at that wikipedia article at pictures of other variety, especially close-ups, I realized a lot of them are still pretty gross, but I'll take any or all of them over spiders every day of the year.

Good news for fans of Bernard Werber's "The Ants".

Is there an estimation of when this game will be, uh, developped ?

I'm sure they'd... appreciate(?)... that. :)
To me (not a biologist, btw) if it has have 8 legs and is more legs than body it's a cute little spider. Ideally I prefer several sets of eyes over one set (on spiders, that is), but I won't hold it against Daddy-Long-Legs. Scorpions on the other hand: More body than legs - they can eff right off... ;)

Dog pictures, cat pictures, spider pictures, snake pictures... - they all look cute to me as long as those aren't shown mauling another living being to death or something.

Thanks but... Flash. It won't work for me either, but someone else might enjoy it.

Just for those who dislike spiders and still use flash: The page is titled "Scary Spider Game". You might want to keep your curiosity in check. ;)

"Hooded Horse is excited to announce ant-themed strategy game Empires of the Undergrowth, from Slug Disco Studios, has joined our portfolio of world-class strategy, simulation, and RPGs. This RTS/management game challenges players to lead a colony of formidable formicidae to prosperity and glory out in the wilderness.

Players manage their workers and expand their colony by sending out legions of ants into the world to take over other nests, eliminate threats such as frogs and spiders, and more. Leave pheromone markers to control the behaviors of drones and ensure a steady supply of resources and food for the queen.

Empires of the Undergrowth has been in early access since 2017 and has grown tremendously with over five years of regular content updates including new species (Fire Ants!), new modes (auto-battle style Tug of War), new maps, and more.
