Ghost in the cell.

Dead Cells is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 25% discount until November 20, 2PM UTC.
Roguelite? Metroidvania? This is RogueVania: progressive exploration, replayability, and the adrenaline pumping threat of permadeath; but it's YOUR own ability that matters the most!
Freeze, zap, pierce or fireball your enemies as you expertly swerve around them to reach the next impossible boss.
Akin to its protagonist, the game is constantly evolving and has just received its biggest update yet, exclusive to GOG for the next 24 hours.

Make sure to grab its atmospheric Soundtrack separately.

Fortuk: - You can save-on-exit and resume at any time, so having to stop for a bit doesn't ruin a good run.

All in all, a great game already. A lot of the stress that you can get in a game with perma-death is mitigated by how good it feels to play and that you don't get insta-gibbed if you make a mistake
- the game keeps you on your toes, but with a sufficient amount of breathing room. If there's one compliment I can give it, it's that I've yet to feel frustrated by any of my deaths and unwilling to keep playing.
Ok, that bit kind of helps mitigate my own reservations with this title, as I usually manually save-scum with this type of saving as I always back up my saves by default anyways!

Looks like I will most likely get this once it releases fully! Thanks for this post as the game is fuckin' gorgeous, with the animation and lighting effects with its pixel art!...Wishlisted!

takezodunmer2005: I despise rogue shite, but I applaud the devs for doing right by us and releasing it here DRM free! But it sucks that gorgeous pixel art games are crippled with over-repetitive recycled gameplay... If you made permadeath optional this game would be epic!
I got to disagree, devs haven't released the game here, they've released an unfinished project, not a game.
Appluad them for releasing a finished game, if it ever gats finished.
My fundamental objections are to devs using "Early Access", and GOG's jumping on the Bandwagon with "In Dev".

I'm all for crowdfunding, but I have very spesific criteria a dev must meet, for me to back any project.

1 It must use 100% crowdfunded investment, no hidden backers, or publisher involvement.
2 It must have direct funding option, I want 100% of my funds going to the project, not Kikstarter, Steam, or GOG.
- - - - - - - Neither of those have to be setup at startup, but I won't back any project until they both exist.
3 I expect the devs to give me their best work, in attempting to complete the projects release goals.
4 if the above are fulfilled, I expect nothing else

Backer rewards only come with success, that is the risk I have willingly taken.
I lost the money they day I backed the project, and knew the risks of backing a games development.
I haven't backed a failure yet, taking those decisions, but any one of the projects I've backed could have failed.
A couple aren't completed yet. If one fails, so be it, all have so far fullfilled my make a valid attepmt clauses.

Plus I don't see the "gorgeous pixel art", I see crappy fake "8-bit" trash, on a 64-bit machine.
Never understood the appeal of blocky graphics, when it's no longer a forced limitation, imposed by the hardware.
All these fake 8-bit games, leave me cold, I hated having to put up with 8-bit graphics, when I first upgraded to a 16-bit Amiga from a C=64, and have no desire to do that again on 64-bit PC's, for "fun", it's no fun for me.

From what I gathered it's more the kiind of early the devs of Darkest Dungeon got, and even then I think they have most of their systems on, they just add items and a couple more icin on the cake.

This game feels more finished than most "released" games.

I agree, as I do not buy ErlyA/InDev until a full release, but the fact that it's here much like DOS2 means we won't have to wait until they release it here after steam...But yeah, the idea of ErlyA/InDev is pointless for small developers unless they're focused on their schedules and realistic expectations with the final development goal and stick with it.

Too many inexperienced developers get lost in the details of the engine, mechanics, bugs and distractions from the gamers that already bought the game, multiplying the length it will take in order to release a full project!

If you don't have at least 80-90% of the game developed and only have 25-50% done at the time of ErlyA/InDev, then chances are, it will never be finished, or a choppy mess that's infested with bugs!

It's more of 16 bit, which I started gaming on, so it's all a matter of preference and taste, otherwise it would not sell at all!...But that is your opinion which is your right as this is your money that is taken in consideration after all!
I've purchaced & played this game for 7h not knowing it was unfinished. feeles finished to me.

Also I've just started PC gaming so I have mixed feelings finding out it's "In Dev" should I be worried?

On GOG I wouldn't worry too much about it. GOG is selective when choosing which ones it allows to launch under In Dev and In Dev games here have a good track record of getting finished as a result. You'll have to be much more careful if you ever decide to buy early access games on Steam as they don't curate their content.

My rule of thumb with In Dev, and its Steam equivalent Early Access, games is: judge it for what it is, not for what it might become. The danger with these unfinished games is that the current version is bad, but that you buy it anyway because the end product might turn out to be good, which frequently ends in people being disappointed by the game not living up to their expectations. If you already enjoy Dead Cells as it is right now then all it means is that you have further refinements and content to look forward to.
