installs but will not play

Afraid you don't give us any details so it's kind of hard to help. What happens when you try to run the game?

"Go to the installation folder.
Delete or rename ddraw.dll. The game should now start correctly."

This is a W10 issue.

First things first.

1. You may want to open such topics in the game's subforum. In your case Icewind Dale series
2. State which version of the game you are playing. IWD, IWD: EE or IWD2.
3. Provide your system information, such as your operating system (windows 10? windows 7? Mac? Linux?), your graphics card. (Nvidia? ATI?)


Now, since you did not give us any of that information, I'll assume the most basic problem. If you are using Windows 8 or 10 do the following.

1. Open Control Panel
2. Open Programs and Features
3. Choose "Turn Windows Features on or off"
4. Check Legacy Components and DirectPlay
