The Burrowers.
A horror western that I found incredibly creepy and interesting.
Very atmospheric with a great monster.
I liked it so much I bought the DVD. :)
Ju-on (the original japanese version of Grudge) i usually get bored with horrors but this f..k.r made me stay awake
'Babadook'

shot in New South Wales..

and

'The Canal'

shot in Ireland.

'Lady In Black 2' is coming to theatres soon.

'Town That Dreaded Sundown' was good too.

Telika: 1) Yes. Angel Heart is one of my favorite (no pun intended) movies. Actually i always liked pseudo-voodoo movies, even when they are "politically incorrect" (that is, anthropologically incorrect, and politically harmful), which they basically always are. I just like the voodoo synchretism style, this mix of exotism and familiar.
Then you should absolutely see The Serpent and the Rainbow.

Another old movie that I liked (even though some people would say it is a "so bad it's good" type of movie) is The Lair of the White Worm.

Last but not least a new movie that is quite unusual but definitely worth watching: Afflicted.
"Grave of the fireflies"

Terrifying in a very special and deep way.
Videodrome made me feel sick.

Um, no. That's a rather depressive drama anime, not a horror movie.

Thread title only asked for a terrifying movie
and I don't find horror movies terrifying. :P

Well, "May (2002)" is pretty good and about the only movie in this direction I appreciate.

A few movies that might not be classics, but were better than I expected and I don't think have been mentioned in the thread yet:

- Frontier(s)
- The Ruins
- Devil's Pass
A couple suggestions with interesting setups:
Afflicted and Grave Encounters
One that I think was good, but it's been a while: The Ruins
More of a thriller, but entertaining nevertheless: Frozen (no not the Disney flick)
Another one that falls more into the thriller category: Triangle
One last horror thriller: Eden Lake

Just something off the top of my head...

If you liked Frozen, I would recommend The Canyon, I saw them both around the same time and kinda pair them together cos of their oppositeness, Cold vs Heat. :

Again, a low budget movie of a couple of people vs the environment...This is not a horror movie BTW.
Bumping this ultra-precious thread (thanks all participants so far), as it would be better to continue it with the next batch of horror rather than start a new separate thread.

Thanks for starting it in the first place, btw. I got some entertainment out of all the suggestions and it's also in my favorites for future reference.
i dont know if it was released yet, but it´s supposed to be very scary "it follows" is the name and the plot is that something follows the protagonist like the title indicates

here is the tráiler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkZYbOH0ujw
I'm not sure if this was mentioned yet, but I thingCrimson Peake will deliver. The new trailer looks rather good.
