silent49: Look at attached picture, it's a silly theory but why is konami listed in GOG browse section when you look through filters, yet there are obviously no konami games on the store? Anyone else find a company listed in the browser with no games? Was there a konami game on GOG before? Does this mean konami will eventually release drm free metal gear, castlevania? Silent hill 3 was on PC, would konami release SH3 to GOG?
Or is it all just nonsense?
Did I find the "friday" surprise GOG mentioned in this week's sale threads? Generally speaking, if a company is listed in devpub, then they are one of the following:
1) Partnered and selling games on GOG currently.
2) Were previously partnered with GOG to sell games.
3) A company GOG is in the process of partnering with and bringing games to the store which may have not gotten released here yet.
If the company doesn't qualify as #1 or #2 then they are almost certainly #3. It's unlikely that GOG would ever add companies to the list which are not one of the 3 categories above because it would serve no purpose to them or the website and it would generate curiosity and rampant speculation by customers, getting their hopes up. It would generate inquiries to
both companies, and if a company was on the list and did not presently do business with GOG that would be an odd situation for GOG to be in when the company calls them to ask why they are listed on their website.
So, if we find a company on the list like that it really means #3 is the case and fans of the given company then do have a reason to get their hopes up. It doesn't mean that any games will actually show up because deals sometimes fall through in the world of business, but it is a very good sign. A good enough sign that several people in the forums are aware of this and regularly compare the list of companies with archived copies to find out what new companies show up in order to try to predict what games might be showing up to surprise us in the future. That has yielded quite a number of successful predictions in the past.
IMHO, it's safe to say that GOG is most likely working with Konami to bring some of their games here and that it has probably gotten to the point where they have actual titles being worked on behind the scenes. Presumably they would not add them to the site company list until things have gotten serious enough that they feel quite confident about it because GOG is totally aware that people programatically monitor that list of companies just for this reason. Since they know we're watching and they could easily have flags in their database to flag a company as hidden temporarily but they have not hid them, I think it's safe to say that they want us to know Konami is coming here to build up suspense and anticipation while carefully avoiding ever saying anything public about it and either remaining dead silent or at best reponding with some boilerplate "We can'neither confirm, deny, nor discuss any pending game deals publicly if there were any due to blah blah blah legalese." or similar. :)
So the big questions are now:
- What Konami games do people think are the most likely candidates to show up here realistically.
- What Konami games are people enthusiastically interested in showing up here.
- Does anyone know if there has been any public comments or leaks online about Konami working with GOG?
- When Konami does show up here on GOG, will GOG build an easter egg into the website that utilizes the Konami code in order to get something special to show up?
- Does the website already have a hidden Konami code in it somewhere?
- How many people do you think went to the homepage after reading the previous 2 questions and spent 5 minutes trying various PC variants of the Konami code to try to unlock an easter egg?
- How many web developers do you think are now studying the source code of the GOG homepage to look for clues for a Konami code?
:)
