Theta_Sigma: Agreed, I rather liked New Nightmare quite a bit, fantastic film and a credit to the series.
Understandable, also her chainsawing her hand would have been a nice nod to Evil Dead 2. I do admit the pulling it free was a little more like the manga Berserk (which is a brilliant work in it's own right) and less like Evil Dead.
I think I would have been happy at some ambiguous nod that doesn't really say too much what it means and lets the viewer decide if it's sadism of the book, hunger of the book, or just annoyance at human tampering. Though the whole demonic lodgers thing seems to be a likely possibility.
I think my problem with the Nu-Nightmare is that it felt so predictable. While I get Freddy is not a good person and was seriously fucked up, but it would have been fantastic if he actually WAS innocent. It would have been a nice twist rather than him being admittedly someone who hurts children, but instead took the blame for someone who was guilty of it. I do like they showed more of his back story but seeing him as someone caught up as a victim of circumstance and his vengeance had a legitimacy to it would have been fascinating.
Heh, yeah I don't blame you, Transformers and TMNT were two of my favourite series growing up and to see what he did to them just breaks my heart. I just wish it had of been closer to the original series OR the comic series'. It has so many different back stories to the Autobot/Decepticon conflict any number of them would have made for great cinema.
More Than Meets the Eye is amazing, though to be fair MOST of IDW's publications are friggin spectacular. I also recommend All Hail Megatron and Autocracy (which plays up Orion Pax as a cop rather than a factory worker on Cybertron). If you dig TMNT I recommend anything put out by IDW from that, The Thief of Always, Epilogue, Infestation, Mars Attacks (especially vs. Transformers), and X-Files Classics.
Ah yes, I've been watching James' reviews of the Friday the 13th series so I might give that a view too when I have a moment.
So true, they care more about making a buck than making something that will earn them credibility, and possible future revenue from happy customers/theater goers.
of the 9 nightmare movies
1 3 and 7 are the best
2 is not a classic but stands on its own because it is so different
6 is awfull
4 and 5 are well we discussed that
vs jason is wel it is what it is
and the remake is the remake
ive never read berserk to be honest played the dreamcast game but thats about it
i think there was a nod at evil dead 2 already
the electric bread knife scene
im not actually sure you can do that with an electrical bread knife though
considering that we are actually discussing about what the book wants other then giving birth to the abomination and who knows what he\she wants i dare say its ambiguous enough
well the remake is a remake and most remakes dont have the guts to do something different
if they do the majority of the fans will complain and complain and complain
and i think that the twist that freddy was actually innocent is too big of a twist because then his vengeance is justified
and freddy is supposed to be a monster in the remake they just made him more of a monster
but with the same familair beats it should have followed its own course and be its own entity with the only similarities being the basics ( ie freddy and his back story )
which comic series ? UK or US ?
the UK comic is better but thats G1
with G2 the us comic is superior and the uk one inferior
actually i loath all hail megatron
or all fail megatron as i call it not only is the storytelling uneven and the pacing inconsistent
it runs roughshod over furmans 2005-2008 run
demolishes storylines and offers nothing in their places other then a load of questions
such as why we suddenly have the cartoon ( urrrrgh ) cast from 84-85 ( oh god no ) and the movies cast while before the cast was varied
cybertron was uninhabitable it was a wasteland that activley killed whoever set foot on it
where the hell did the matrix came from ? the war was formerly a war of ideologies and attrition the matrix didnt factor in to it and now its the cause of the war ?
where are the facsimilies ?
what about the holo matters ?
what the hell is kup doing there ? his mind was destroyed !
jazz was never said to be in spec ops
where is jimmy ?
where is verity ? are they dead ?
the first 6 issues were a mess ignoring any and all of these question and were basically the decepticons going wild on earth and the autbots moping on cybertron
and then we got awnsers
so apparently all it took to bring down the autobots was sunstreaker handing over a few codes ( and sunstreaker was never shown to be that high up on the totem pole )
and prime being overzealous and walking in to a basic trap
sunstreaker committed apparent suicide
hunter died ( urrrgh )
but wait it gets much more better !
optimusu was all but dead in issue 1 in 10 ratchet comes out and say he cant save prime
and in the SAME damn issues
prime is repaired and pretty much shows up saying HAI GAIZ IM TEH FIXED NAO !!111
how in the name of ass did that get through ?!
but no we are not done yet
omeg asupreme becomes omega deus ex machina deal witht he swarm and gets the autobots to earth ready in time for a boring disjointed "climax" that ends with an explosion in mid air ( but no superion getting blown to bits this time )
and we get an explanation why kup is chomping on a cigar without any explanation at all
all hail megatron is just bad even if you ignore everything it ran roughshod over the story is just not good
idw even needed 7 extra issues ( spotlight metroplex jazz cliffjumper and 13-16 ) to straighten this mess out and explain arbitrary changes just for the sake of change
then we got an excruciatingly slow moving and boring ongoing that dwelled on earth and adressed plot points from ahm
ie explain what ahm never explained
the only thing ahm was good for is get new stories rolling and only that is because other writes have to straighten out this mess
jimmy is finally accounted for
verity survived last stand of the wreckers
and hunter is still very much dead
kups ridiculous cigar is explained and so on but none of that was ever ever adressed in ahm it self
it had 16 issues and the ending is still a rushed incoherent mess
and they never dressed prime's miraculous resurrection
i can go on and on but as far as i am concerned all hail megatron is on the same level of excruciatingly awful as bayformers 2
they are even from the same year
more then meets the eye is a great series but some times the tone is a bit too light
the characters dont take their predicament seriously so why should you the reader ?
but its still head and shoulders above dreck like all fail megatron or the 2009 ongoing
and i have a problem with the new current co captain of the lost light
im sure you know who i mean
i mentioned his name often enough
i just dont buy this sudden change of heart and im waiting for the other shoe to drop
i have a love hate relationship with the rid comic i like how it tackles the difficult questions
i hate how it takes ages to get somewhere
its been 3 years now
cybertron is still a mess for gods sake do SOMETHING start rebuilding anything !
i dont care for windfa...windblade but sadly i need her second series for the combiner wars
and mtme 9-11 did the orion pax supercop idea before autocracy
autocracy primacy and monstrosity just ran with it and showed us the early days of the brewing war
it also showed what kind of a psychopath megatron was ( points at a earlier comment )
anyway i think i bored you enough with transformers ;p
other then anything transformers the only other thing i read from idw is the maxx
that cinemassacre review shows the scene where i lost all interest in the halloween II remake
it stopped being scary and became bizarre comedy
begotten this is not
all studios care are their tentpole franchises and the bottom line and cranking out as much product as possible thats why the hobbit became a 9 hour 3 parter instead of a 4 hour 2 parter
DreamedArtist: HOLY CRAP! what a long post 0_0
have you seen the other pages ? ;p
