I know it's still under developement , but i'm looking for alternatives to RimWorld and Dwarf Fortress .

Can't answer how it compares, but similar games would be: Space haven - you are constrained to a spaceship(s) and crew size is more limited than Dwarf Fortress town size population, but similar to RimWorld. The UI is much better than RimWorld, but don't even remember how DW's looked like...
Prison Architect - I will never not call RimWorld a Prison Architect clone... Much better UI, but... you are not managing a colony... you are building a prison and the prisoners are not your friends. You cannot control them. They can, and will, start a riot...
Managment wise - very good; Simwise - not that much... unless you insert a warden into the game and RolePlay as her/him. re: the DLC's - no idea, but from what I read they are not worth it. :/

There were, atleast 2 similar games in this genre, but I cannot, for the life of me, remember what they were called.

You can try the game yourself. On Steam there's a demo, and it's actually the full game, just a few versions behind.

For alternatives there's Oxygen Not Included and Ratopia. Gnomoria was mentioned but ignore it, it has been abandoned a long time ago.

Nice list. Pity virtually every single one is Early Access. Beyond these stars not even that. ''coming soon''. Demo on another store though.
