Description

You start the game with a few peasants and limited resources that you will use to eventually turn your small settlement into a real medieval castle. Build, mine resources, grow crops, manufacture equipment, trade, and advance science on your own or by delegating tasks to your people. Greedy bandits will regularly raid your settlement, so you'll have to rally militia troops and repel the enemy.

Key features

Manage peasants
Each peasant can have one of ten available professions. Once you assign them to one, they'll start following orders and carrying out tasks related to that profession — you won't need to keep track of each individual inhabitant. However, if you think ordinary peasants with the most basic education won't be great at tactics, you can directly command individual units or groups of units in combat.
Develop infrastructure
Start by processing stone and lumber, then make advancements in technology to unlock new ways to grow your settlement: manufacturing, trade, lighting, comfort, equipment, defense. Your character and peasants will also be able to grow and improve their skills while they do useful work.

Settlers
To make a village attractive to new settlers, you need to make sure the inhabitants are comfortable. Peasants need cozy houses and good food. However, for particularly lazy peasants, you'll have to use the whip along with the carrot.
Battles
Bandits, wolves, and bears will regularly attack your settlement. You can lead the militia or stay out of combat by letting your people defend themselves. To reduce casualties, you can hide behind powerful walls or lure the enemy into meticulously placed traps.
Agriculture
Hunting and gathering will only solve the problem of hunger at the earliest stages. In a highly developed settlement, you'll need to start growing various crops and raising animals.
Trade
Merchants will regularly visit your village. They'll offer their goods and buy things you produce. With time, you will be able to send trade caravans to other locations.
Events
Random events will require you to make important decisions: choose weapons or food, gold or goods for your peasants, "one egg today or a hen tomorrow".
Seasons
To survive the harsh medieval winter, you'll need to build campfires and houses, and stock up on provisions, making sure you prioritize non-perishable food.

Cooperative multiplayer
Build your village together and fight shoulder to shoulder with your friends. The game supports multiplayer for up to 6 players.

Lovely little game!

After over 300 hours in, I can say this game is thoughtful as well as entertaining! It seems a little grindy at first, but after a few restarts and figuring out sorta how things work, It's not so bad getting to where you want to go! However, it does take a while and requires some patience. There are goals to end the game in which you have a choice, one, or all to win, it's up to you! I would say this is not a weekend game to be finished in a few hours though. I do enjoy the mechanics and the graphics! I do however, only have one problem and/or complaint about the game, well two actually, and they both concern the map. Firstly, there is no map preview, so you have to actually start the game to see what map you are going to end up with. If you don't care for the current map, you have to go all the way back out and restart another game. Secondly, once you find the map you like, the placement of the main starting square is very limited due to trees and/or crops. Plus where you place your start square, is where it's going to stay, as it can't be moved. I am thinking that if the trees/crops could be demolished with the placement of the start square, it would be much nicer and easier to start. The fact that the placement is permanent would not be such a problem if you had more choices to begin with. Other then the problems with the map, I can see playing this game over many times with very few problems. The tutorial equips you with the basics but some of the end game processes could use some more explaining, such as the autonomous things - still haven't quite figured out how they work. I have noticed that the devs are very active answering questions, so probably just have to ask in the forums if you have a question or a problem. All and all, worth the price! (edit: Oh, and forgot to mention, there seems to be only male names active in the game - tsk tsk!) (с) Alleykat 05.05.2021

Settlement Sim / Survival RPG

Have looked at this for quite awhile before deciding to give it a go whilst it's on sale. Currently there is a slew of games all along this type of theme and it can be difficult to distinguish one from another as from the screenshots they all look like the same game. With the only real thing being the mechanics behind how you do things and how you manage your ever growing tribe. What sets this game apart primarily is rather than having a Godlikelike view from above whilst directing the placement of building, paths and tasks for your Tribe or villagers to perform, here you have a Character in game. You control your Character with W,A,S,D for movement and use the mouse to set the direction you are facing (Rotate) and mouse buttons to perform actions. You have a series of bars to manage your Health / Stamina and an Inventory similar to any RPG. So initially it's you alone who is tasked with laying the foundations and building the usual pattern of benches to expand what you can build - like games you've probably played before. What's great is as your followers arrive to join they also have a fully accessable inventory exactly as yours. You can direct what tasks your villagers perform as standard by a drop down menu. You get x2 tasks, say Woodcutting then Building depending on what job requires filling. This is an easy to pick up system and quite intuative. Icons above the character indicate any problems or requirements. So yeah, so far, enjoying my time with this game / sim. No issues, it appears complete as a game. How much you can sit back and automate things as things become more complex may be a concern ? But loving the amount of direct control you have as a player in this game. Recommended. Only downside so far is the writing can be too small to make out on the pop up messages.

Own it on Steam, it's good

Imagine if Dwarf Fortress was easy to play? It's like that.

Banger

Simple RTS, with not hard aspects, but still quiete challenging - saying that as a experienced gamer interested in strategies. For really a few bucks you can have a good fun as long as you are interested in historical (just say medieval..) games because of scientifical advancing and eras also if you are into strategic games with managing resourcers, work, infrastructure. Aspect of a playable character is also interesting.
