I have a question that some may be able to answer.

I'm looking for hot seat games to play with my wife, and so far I'm only willing to buy games on gog.

Thing is, my wife doesn't like many kinds of setting and types of games. What we play is mainly Civilization IV(and all kinds of mods), curriously Heroes of might and magic is another option. Basically, I was wondering if anyone could point me to good hot seat games with these conditions:

1-Historical (or...realistic?) setting as she doesn't like much sci-fi and can't stand heroic fantasy(except for heroes 3)

2- Is not a tactical level game, which rules out the likes of panzer general 2

3-Is, well you know, somewhat graphically pleasing, can't have a game using nato 84 for units and the like

4-Preferably a 4x game, but if anybody has something else which nails the other points I'll be happy
Off the top of my head:

Worms, all of them:

THIS!

Its silly, funny, strategic and perfected the formula.
So, if i am getting this right she likes recourse gathering type since Civilization is all about building up and gathering resources along with some fighting and conquering as you grow stronger.

Hmmm....
I will say you should check the following:

I'd cautiously recommend Antihero (see my recent mini-review here). Just note that being able to see the areas that the other player has explored (cleared of the fog of war) during their turn will change the game a little, as it seems to have been mostly made with online play in mind. But it's not fantasy or sci-fi, and it has a nice, distinctive art style. (Not sure if you'd call this "tactical" or not, but it's definitely not quite a 4X, sorry. :) )

Oh...Sir!! The Insult Simulator is a silly, fun game that rips o...uh, is inspired by Monty Python sketches. It might not hold your attention for long (or grab it in the first place, if you have no fondness for Python) but the price is right (especially if you can get it on sale), and I can't say I've seen any other games with its exact gameplay concept (building torturously stupid insults with which to batter your opponent).

At least one of those (Egypt: Old Kingdom) has no multiplayer at all, let alone hotseat multiplayer (the purpose of the thread!).
Indeed, I shall rework my criterias

1-Is a hot seat game

2-Is not Heroes 3 (great game, already play it)

3-Historical (or...realistic?) setting as she doesn't like much sci-fi and can't stand heroic fantasy(except for heroes 3)

4- Is not a tactical level wargame(by which I mean running less then a regiment worth of troops) ,which rules out the likes of panzer general 2

5- Doesn't have a timer like worms (used to play it together...but with a young child you don't want a timer...and it would be a bitch to play when said kid decides she want's to sit between us, already hard enough just with the mouse)

6-Is, well, you know, somewhat graphically pleasing, can't have a game using nato 84 for units and the like

7-Preferably a 4x game, but if anybody has something else which nails the other points I'll be happy

This being said thx everyone for the suggestions...anti-hero will indeed have to be studied as a possibility...

Sorry, too lazy (and not familiar enough with many of the games), but a while ago I created a very similar thread. Maybe there is something in it for you:

Like your wife, my gf doesn't like fantasy as well but we had great fun playing Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons together. The game is meant to be played with one player controlling both brothers, each one with one analog stick, however we both played on the same keyboard, co-op style (well, most of the time).
Very easy to play (4 directional buttons + 1 action button) simple puzzles and quite short with a interesting story. It's pretty much a 3 hour long interactive movie and a very good one.
She forgot the fantasy setting very fast and just enjoy the movie, errrr, the game!

Pro tip: let her play with the younger brother, thank me later.
Quite tough criteria to fill them all (especially since we're limited to GOG library).

More or less, Machiavelli the Prince is filling them, although it's DOS game, so it may be a problem in terms of gra;hically pleasing. First Lords of the Realm also has hot-seat option, but all battles are automatically resolved in hot-seat mode. And again, it's DOS game, so graphic side of the game may be not very appealing.

By the way - did you tried demo of Inkulinati? I know it's only demo and that it's veeery specific turn-based game, but it could be a nice thing to try, even if it's partially filling criteria (has hot-seat).
Through the Ages. It's a boardgame/cardgame take on Civilization.
