Sachys: for some reason i CANNOT find a certain CLASS 90s cut i was looking for (think i even posted here before) - nor remember the track or artist title dammit!
keep thinking it was jaru the damaja, but im sure it wasnt - and it had THAT dumbfunky cello (often mistaken for an upright) bassline at warpfactor weird!

ideas?

- would have been roughly 93-95 era
A hip hop thread too? Awesome, glad you posted something so I saw this. Afraid I cannot answer your question but please check your PMs Sachys:)

Personally I'm really looking forward to the release of the record Harlem Knights by Cannibal Ox. Some people might remember them from back in the day, they last put out an LP in 2001 on the Def Jux label. Def Jux is probably my favorite "undie hop" label, I've seen a lot of their artists over the years. Can Ox I first heard when they played my college radio station's music fest. Awesome presence and they got the crowd movin'.

This is the full tracklist from Cold Vein, their 2001 LP.

Jesus, I finally find the time to search the forum and keep thinking just one more topic and I'm out....looks like many moons have passed since and I still haven't seen a quarter of the forum and I still manage to find new topics. The GOG community is the best!

I love the old school and from the new stuff it's mostly the underground type of hip-hop that catches my interest.
How many Atmosphere https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmosphere_(music_group) fans do we have here? What do you think about their latest album?
Do you think MF Doom will ever release something that's as epic as his earlier work?
What's up with the qustions? Why can't I stop? Enough now?!

darthspudius: This is a genuine question...

Why is it in Hip Hop every drum rhythm sounds out of synch with everything else? Better yet why do Rappers these days have no sense of rhythm like the ones from the 80s? Seriously curious.
Because you're probably listening from the wrong bar to start - something you'll see if you've ever watched anyone try and beatmix for the first time

l0rdtr3k: Any album recommendations for a Hip Hop newcomer?
Are there any rappers you like already? - Would be better to springboard from.

No, I literally meant on the records i have heard. It's like they'll be trying to wrap in one time signature whilst this god awful tacky beat goes off on it's own in different time signature. Rap was great spin on funk in the 80s, I don't understand why they progressed to make it sound like that.

thats exactly what i mean. you have to listen to the beat and let the flow overlay - whereas it sounds like you're the "first time beatmixer" and you're instead getting a bar of the flow and then getting the beat: making it out of synch

I think I just don't get it. As a drummer it makes no sense to me at all.

I like Naz, 2Pac, Ice Cube, Freddie Gibbs, Jay Rock.

Right, well thats a start... I take it you've heard both 2pacalypse now and Illmatic by Nas? - if not they're definate class albums. You should also check Enter the 36 Chambers by Wu Tang (actually posted a link to it on youtube about a half page back).

Because every jackass with Fruity Loops thinks they're a producer now, but don't understand actual rhythm.

IAWTC

Same with fucking autotuning, ugh, still remember when that first came out.Almost as obnoxious as dubstep.

Leroux: I challenge everyone to post some local stuff from the city or a (non-US) country they live in (or know of)!

Bavarian: Yes, please! ATCQ, the Beasties and Cypress Hill are cool, but I heard them a thousand times. Show me some stuff I never heard before. Introduce me to rap music from Israel, Brazil, Algeria or Korea. That's what I'd expect from a Hip Hop Thread on a forum like this.

Awesome, thanks! I don't understand the lyrics, but I like it. We need more posts like this one (see quotes above). :)

Well I think it's shit! :P

Unless done right by someone like Prince for example. The man knows what rhythm is.
